Obviously sexual immorality is wrong. But...by your logic, the lustful thoughts which make masterbation wrong would mean that sex would be wrong as well. I mean what is sex driven by if not lust?

It's not my logic, it's the Bible's logic. And you are forgetting marriage. Marital sex is not "wrong." Outside of it? According to the Bible, yes.

Lethkhar, defending masturbation is one thing, but I do not think that's the right kind of tone for a Christian discussion group. Joke or not (as I'm sure you'll use that as your defense), please don't make comments like that.

Ophelianime, why are you opposed to talking to your parents about it? Parents are understanding people, even if you're at that age where you think they aren't. Make sure they know you're looking for information; you simply don't have it. You do not have to tell them anything more than you wanted. You only have to ask questions and that's good enough.

There must not be even a hint of sexual immorality

i don't know but to me, masturbation has a hint of sexual immorality.
i feel guilty when i do and i don't know if i should or its the holy spirit telling me to keep myself from it. sad

Is it the holy spirit, or is it the fact that from before you were old enough to understand what it was, you were told that sex in all its forms was bad and immoral and you're bringing the guilt on yourself?

Half-joke, really. I support regular masturbation in the absence of sex. It's a healthy habit. The part about the manga was the sarcasm.

And when they undoubtedly ask where she heard about masturbation...?

Parents can be strange creatures. I can't say anything about hers, but I'm sure she has her reasons.

I was aware of that.

No, it's your logic. There's nothing in the bible about masterbation.

And just because it's contained within marrige, it doesn't change the fact that lust is a part of sex.

Then you needn't take offense from it.

Heavens, in this thread alone you've told us all about your sex life with your ex-wife. You are a grown man. I seriously doubt that me talking about masturbation makes you uncomfortable.

Ophelianime
I'm not exactly clear on what masterbation is sweatdrop
I mean, I read erotic manga and get a buzz from it redface
is that masterbation? eek

The short, PG-13 rated answer is that masturbation is touching oneself in a way to sexually arouse. If you want anymore detail wikipedia is probably your best answer.

As far as masturbation goes, I feel as though while the act in and of itself may not be sinful, I think drive behind it could be. But at the same time as long as it doesn't become an obsession I think it's okay. I typically see sin as anything interfering with a person's relationship with God, so if it really isn't detrimental to that, that's okay. But if it is, you should maybe steer clear and find another way of "scratching the itch" so the speak.

MY OPINION: I don't think sin is something that keeps you from God ONLY . More of hurting or has the possibility of hurting people, or/and yourself. Sin does separate you from God though, but there's more to it than just that.

knitting can become a sin. Just like any other activity. All that has to happen is you put it higher than God, and then it is worshipping an idol. (One of the ten commandments if I remember right.)

My whole opinion on the matter is that it's the drive that makes it sinful the most, and it's worst when you put it higher than God. The act itself is never truly sinful. Mostly it's the drive behind it. Certain acts I believe is a sin, no matter the drive. And your not alone in this at all. I have trouble with it too. So, I don't know how much help I can be. But I hope I helped somewhat. smile

No, it doesn't. But you have to read the whole rulebook. Just like everything, there's the exception to the rule. Lust is NEEDED for sex. Otherwise it's just another boring duty to do to pop out kids. Pelvic thrust, pelvic thrust, oh what's on TV? You're just not supposed to let your lust drive you to start sleeping with anyone but your spouse. Perhaps, including yourself.

Which brings to mind the question... is masturbating WITH your spouse a sin? I'm curious to see where people draw the line once marriage is involved.

I think you have me mixed up with someone else.
And I didn't take offense at it. I don't think it is appropriate. That is all. Stop contesting it, please.

rofl I actually laughed pretty hard at the idea of knitting becoming idol worship. At least, for me personally, knitting is a way of relieving any stress or frusteration I have, but also acts as a reflection time for me. It's a monotonous activity, so if I really tried it could be used as a meditation technique if you really want.

But as silly as it sounds- any activity can become sinful, I do agree.

Most definatly. For example, pasta can also become a sin.
