isandrith so many characters to choose from crying but my most loved supporting character would have to be isabella thorpe and mr. bennet because of so many reasons and the most hated one is probably mary musgrove

My favorite supporting character would be Miss Tilney. She's very sweet and understanding, a very good friend in comparison to Isabella. I also readlly liked the Gardners in Pride and Prejudice. I really wish I had family like them, they're so welcoming to their neice and very helpful when Lydia runs off.
My least favorite supporting character is Mrs. Norris. She is literary incarnation of my grandmother and my aunt. I dislike them exheedingly and, because she is so like them, I feel the same about her.

SakuraStar89 Henry Crawford (Mansfield Park) is absoloutely my least favorite. What a douche! He's worse than Wickham and Willoughby combined! rant made invisible to prevent spoilage: Messing with three women just for his own amusement! Not to mention that one of them was engaged, and then to run off with her AFTER SHE WAS MARRIED. And he wasn't punished like the other two (having to marry their mistakes), or sorry at all, like Willoughby was.In response to the "spoiler": (highlight) First of all, I'm totally agreeing with you that Henry Crawford is the worst of men! However, I was led to believe that even though he started off by only playing with Fanny's emotions, he DID actually come to have feelings for her... now how deep those feelings were, I can't actually say, as he seemed to have gotten over her pretty quickly. I would say his punishment came from knowing he could never win a truly "good" woman's heart, such as Fanny. He will be forever reduced to the "Maria Bertrams" of the world. I doubt he ever truly found happiness, as only the depths of his own emotions could ever be returned to him.

further invisi-ranting: I agree, he did have genuine feelings for Fanny...eventually. My point just was in all three of the situations we KNOW about, they all at the very least started out as headgames. And let's be honest, the conversations with him and Mary give the impression it was done many times before. And while yes, the loss of a good woman like Fanny is indeed a punishment, he still wasn't sorry, and anyone with half a brain would take Maria Bertram over Lydia Bennet anyday (Wickham must have done A LOT of drinking in Brighton...) while foolish, she's not so godforsaken annoying! as Lydia
Perhaps we should have a Henry Crawford hate thread, just like we have fan threads for Darcy and Tilney! XD

I have to disagree in that I do think he was sorry. Maybe not for the right reasons... lol. His remorse came from not getting what he couldn't have.
Also, while he may have ended up with a better woman than Lydia Bennett, he could never have been happy, in fact, I wonder that he ever married at all.

If he did I bet he would have soon tired of her and had many affairs. While I do think he developed a certain amount of feelings for her, I believe he is one of those men who find fun in the chase. Once you've caught the girl it's not so fun anymore. So if Fanny had said yes, and they had got married, i do believe Fanny would have spent the rest of her life having to put up with henry's affairs.

I think you're completely right, Dew. Thank God Fanny would never have gone through with it. Edmund was so dense though!! I wanted to bang his head up against a wall: "Stop-bang-drooling-bang-over-Mary-bang-Crawford!-bang-Fanny's-bang-better!

My favourite supporting character is Mr Robert Martin. As soon as I read about him riding around the country to get walnuts for Harriet, I fell for him. Like Harriet, I am easily won over and I found the gesture really touching. I may be the only Austen fan who prefers Mr Martin to Mr Darcy. Sacrilege, I know! Please don't hurt me!
I do adore Mr Bennet and Mr Collins too. They are excellently crafted characters. But I have weird and irrational love for Mr Martin.
As for my least favourite supporting character, I think it might be Mr Woodhouse. I know that's awful because he's supposed to be an amusing old fellow, always worrying about other people's health based on his own hypochondria, and I clearly have a completely messed-up mind when it comes to Austen, but I can't stand him! I think I may have said "Shut up!" out loud once or twice while reading Emma.
It is, of course, all part of Austen's mastery: she's so skilled at putting the reader in the place of her protagonists, that I feel the inconvenience of Mr Woodhouse's nagging as acutely as they do. Clearly the characters are much better at coping with him than I am!

Okay, after having read Persuasion, I'd have to say:
My favorite supporting characters are still the Gardiners from P&P.
My least favorite, however, has been changed to ... gosh, it's a toss up between Mr. Elliot and Elizabeth Elliot. Lord Walter's pretty bad too ... I don't know. I can't decide, but they're all worse than anyone in P&P, in my opinion.
