Try watching any movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki. They're incredible.

Some to look for would be, Princess Mononoke, (Also known as Mononoke Hime, It's my favorite) Also try Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, or Howl's Moving Castle.

So you have movies too, wow!! But, aren't they for kids. Atleast I thought so...

Movies by Miyazaki can't be categorized as being for children or adults. They're to be enjoyed by everyone.

Just watch one of them, you'll understand.

I missed that context entirely. xd

it was only shown very shortly and it caught my eye, cause it was strange and familiar at the same time, after seeing that i watched the film again with different eyes, and i really found some more hints, but of course they´re only in the background, the main point of this film is still entertainment.

i didn´t know that it was derived from a book, though. is it a book or a manga??

I'm glad someone said Elfen Lied ^^
I haven't watched much, but my absolute favorite is Elfen Lied. Then Fullmetal Alchemist.
And no, anime is not just for kids. Especially after watching Eflin Lied.

i dunno why people say anime is just for kids or they're cartoons, but if you compare cartoons and Anime, there is a fat difference, anime has all kinds of genres, and there is usually a learning point watching it, I've watch anime long enough and learned a lot from watching them, i didn't get that stuff from watching loony tunes. Plus i think anime is much more entertaining

yup, although you can´t say that for every anime, there are a lot with deep and complex storylines (naruto excluded) whereas ALL cartoons stories are just very simple built up. i couldn´t find a single cartoon i like, i can´t stand even spongebob.

i don´t consider the simpsons as a cartoon. they´re educational programm rofl rofl rofl

my mother HATES the simpsoms, i can only watch them when she´s not in the house, cause she will always make ugly comments about them and it´s no fun to watch them like this (i really hate it when she does that, i´m not nasty when she watches gilmore girls either...)

Not making snide comments when Gilmore Girls is on TV must require considerable restraint.

yeah, totally right!! i really hate that pseudo-girlie-power-attitude, it´s really astonishing to see that those two have admirers as well, i think the show only ridiculous (only OC California can beat it in beeing the worst series i´ve ever seen)

Slight OT in relation to a few posts earlier about cartoon...

Cartoon is basically the elder generation's general term for any form of animation during their time. And anime is no different.

And since most of cartoons back then basically contained nothing but amusing content to entertain children, elder generations nowadays tend to think anime still has the same content. And we cant blame them for that. They grew up in a different era so its natural that they'd be assuming that cartoons of today is still for kids.

--> back to topic, My fav anime amongst the many I have liked is Code Geass
biggrin
