I can't say I know Checkmate. Who does it and whats it about? sweatdrop

I recently dove into The Invisibles and stopped all brain function for two days. I read some random, not worth mentioning ('cept I'll name drop Mink because magical girls FTW! scream ), manga to recover.

I'm also caught up with the Ex Machina trades and now hate my life as I have to wait for more since I'm all cluster ******** on the issues.

lets see... the best parallel for Checkmate would be... superheroes and spies and the politic intrigue therein, set in the DC universe. Think S.H.I.E.L.D. with Mr. Terrific and Amanda Waller with various other smaller known DC characters...

Heck, they even have a snake-themed rival terrorist organization...

And if I had money and no other series to finish catching up on, I'd be reading Ex Machina too... *sobs silently in the corner*

So I finally read part 2 and 3 for the Faith arc and I have to say... ******** awesommmmmeeeee!!!! Yeah, I can't wait for the next issue which is in like... 5 days, but I won't be able to get it for awhile since there isn't a decent comic shop around me...

On another side note... Matt is going to be coming up tomorrow hopefully and he will be bringing me the new issue of Doc Frankenstein!!!!!! Which is hopefully awesome too! But I will be letting everyone know once I get to read it.

It's Greg Rucka writing the living hell out of a comic. Prefectly in his element. It's a U.N. sanctioned group with all the political back stabbing, double dealings and covert sweetness a person could ask for. Rucka's pacing is flawless, and when the action starts it feels earned. It's easily one of my favorite books right now.

Methinks you iz right. xd

I've started re-reading Y: The Last Man, prepping for the final issue. I can't decide if I like Ex Machina or Y more- and for some reason it's bothering me.

I'd tried to get into Y but failed. I'm really hit and miss with Vaughn's work. I like his current Buffy work, and The Escapists is one of my favorite comics in recent memory, however Y bored me to death and Pride of Bahgdad made me rethink my position on book burning.

I'm going to grab some Ex Machina trades and let them be the tie breaker on my opinion.

I'm a HUGE Greg Rucka fan. I got into his work with Whiteout and have read all of his novels except the most recent one. I'm really loving Crime Bible right now as well.

So I picked up the first Ex Machina trade yesterday, and Vaughn has won his pass from me with a score of 3 to 2.

Not that I'm biased in favor towards the title at all...

But this is good news.

READ ON ABOUT MY GLORY.

I'm looking forward to catching up on all my comics (Ult. X-Men, Invincible, Runaways, Battle Angel...) in Texas where I will probably be spending much $$$ at Matt's comic book shop.

Also, I am really wanting to read Marvel Zombies, cause I missed that when it came out, and that Justice mini series drawn by Alex Ross. And that other thing he's doing, Kingdom Come crossover w/ the JSA and that Captain America Returns thing I've heard about (which is actually the old Cpt. America/Namor/Bucky in present day or something like that).
I heart Alex Ross.

Which one? surprised

The only comics I've been able to nab and read as of late are the first trade of Y, The Book of Magic and the first HUEG volume set of Gunsmith Cats. :3
