It seemed that Evan was eventually going to guess them all right sometime or other. The pride in her apple grove seemed to hint at something, but he was not sure what it was. Thus, he said nothing- For all he knew, Atal was Atal, and Idunn could still be up there, in that tower. He had to make sure, so he reserved his comments. Instead, Evan asked a question.

An important one.

"Did... Hakan... ever mention who the Aesir were?"

Or rather, what they were. Travelling with one who was Aesir these days spelled trouble. Far be it for him to cause anyone any undue pain these days... but he wanted to make sure she knew what to expect. Especially since it sounded like she liked the "boy".

"Aesir?" She spoke the name perfectly, though she merely pursed her lips together becomingly and frowned.

"Heh..." Hakan butted in, "There is no reason to bring them into this mess, sir." He wrapped his arms around Atal as he sat down behind her. He leaned close and kissed the back of the green haired woman's ear.
"Don't worry about it."

So he did not. Another kink in the machinery, and one that he could not just pry out. She would find out sooner or later, though.

Evan shrugged and replied, "Very well then..."

He didn't want to drop it. She had the right to know. But once again, it was none of his business.

"In any event, we shouldn't get too comfortable here. If this storm does not break by tomorrow afternoon, it means that something is wrong." After all, it had just been confirmed that they were being watched- in fact, they were being tracked, which was worse. At least here, they wouldn't be seen all that well, though their invisible observer had the advantage of keeping them pinned in one place for a time.

If of course, that was all their adversary planned to do. Thus, they could not be at ease yet.

"Of course something is wrong. He is watching" Stress on the he, Hakan was assuming that Hugin would know who he was talking about, he just didn't want to upset Atal.

"We might as well wait here for him though. We have something he wants." He nodded to Atal behind her head, so that she could not see, but that Evan could.

"Nnn... I would rather meet the opponent on the field than wait for him in the castle. Not to mention that we are not exactly in a postion to fight... a wall at our backs, two more on our sides, and only one way out. He will be at an advantage."

As for Atal, it was no surprise that the one they were talking about wanted her. If he was correct in his theories and the woman was who he thought she was, then being in the hands of one such as... him... was not a good thing.

If not, they would simply have to inspect the tower that loomed higher on the mountain. It would take them two days, hopefully uneventful, to get there. What they'd find, he knew not- but it had better be worth the trip.

I don't think so... Perhaps if it was only your lot, but do not forget that Melissa and I add an unknown factor to this little game! We are not a part of the old tale... perhaps we are the blank card wink *karasu was still sitting with Melissa at the mouth of the cave, but she had decided to make certain everyone understood that she could still hear them, and she was still paying attention*

Evan spoke without looking behind him. "I trust you remember what he did to you last time. Though I would not have you risk your sanity and have it deteriorate any further than it has now, I see your point. And I have not forgotten about Melissa. In fact, this plan includes her."

Though it included her staying out of the way. However, he remembered that she was a wolf now- or at least, part of her was. She had gone through enough major changes during the past few hours than most would go through in their lives. He couldn't help but wish for when she was still a girl, but that's the breaks sometimes.

Indeed. Especially since you were fool enough to take her on this quest with you. You have not checked her aura once, have you? It would be plain and simple proof that we have found Idunn... though I am not all that certain that the green-haired one is who we are looking for.

Evan did not respond. Truth be told, he didn't know either. There was only one way to find out, though. Casting a surreptitious glance towards the wolf-girl, he tapped into her aura to see if she was glowing with that golden light yet. It was a mark of those who had eaten the fruit of the gods- or had been affected in any other way by it.

That thought sent a tremor through her as Karasu fought off the memories that tried to bubble their way to the surface of her mind. Gabriel's face flashing before her eyes for a moment as the wind shrieked past the cave in a wail of despair before she regained her control and bottled up her own past once more. stare

Who's Him! Him him he him him him! All you people want to talk about is him and I don't even know who him is! If this plan includes me shouldn't I know who Him is?!

She was tired of being a dog, and wanted to go home and get Evan to change her back. Or at least have him figure out how she could change herself back. gonk

Freki's aura covered Melissa's, interfering with the search, but doing so only half heartedly.

Be patient, Hakan will reveal what you desire in time.

And Hakan was so close to Atal, that his aura covered hers. Evan wouldn't even be able to tell Atal was human or not, so closely was Hakan covering her. It wasn't that he had read the man's intentions but almost as if...he were protecting her from something else. The interesting thing though, was that Hakan's aura was almost blindingly bright. As if he had recently eaten of the apples as all of the gods appeared in the eve of the morn before they began their tasks.

But then Hakan spoke up while Atal curled into him, seeking sleep. He wrapped his arms and coat around her tightly and looked up at Evan. "If you are a man, you would seek to protect Melfreak(His personal name for the dynamic duo of girl and wolf) from danger, but now that she is part of Freki, she will not so easily be kept."

"...You think I don't know that?"

Evan glowered at Hakan for a moment. A few moments later, he shut his senses off. But before he did... he noticed that Hakan had covered her as well. He didn't read any sort of poking or prodding, though.

Remember... there is no such thing as coincidence.

Evan shook his head, as if he didn't believe what Hakan had just said. What he was really doing was shaking off the ever-nagging thought that the boy was hiding something else. He did not like it when people hid details that could be rather important.

But once again... none of his business, right? Oh, no- especially since Atal was apparently a prime target for whoever was tracking their movements. Thus, he did not prod any further, though it was quite irritating to do so. Instead, he continued speaking.

"You're fooling yourself if you think that I wouldn't do anything to keep her safe. I do care about her, you know."

Stop fooling yourself... You are keeping her safe because you need her. I admit, it was a fine strategy. But trusting the boy with her was not; now look where that's gotten us.

Shut up, just for one second!

Evan simply closed his eyes. "That's not the problem anymore though, is it? With her and Freki as one, however temporary the link may be, she is capable of fighting back. Whoever is looking for us will go so far as to come out of his hidey-hole sooner or later, and we have to be ready."

Evan sighed and rested his head against the wall.

"And please, don't call her names."

"It was a name that symbolizes what they have become. It was not meant in mean spirit. Freki and Geri were all that I and Atal had as children. I would not dishonor them so."
His voice was low, but there was a certain calm sense of command to it. "So I trust you not to bismirch my honor so in suggesting that I would." There was no rising, as he was trying to get Atal to sleep.

"Keep your so called wisdom to yourself, bird. You don't even have a whole mind anymore. Besides, I'm beginning to think that Þórr might have a reason for his dislike" He then turned way from Evan with that implied threat and then turned to Melissa with a smile. "It was not meant as a dishonor, milady. I think Freki could have chosen no finer of a companion. It is a name that honor the fact you are both half of a whole."

A delicate hand reached up to cup Hakan's cheek as the woman curled against him. "They simply do not understand you, beloved. Your bluntness is taken for rudeness."

That drew Hakan's attention to the woman in his arms. "You were listening.

"When it concerns you, I always listen." And the two teenagers were quiet, content merely to hold each other.

An old Dwarf was walking along the small mountain path he had afew other dwarves following him holding wepons, armor, and shields of all types. They were singing happy songs and there aprons shined in the sunlight brightly like there happy faces. Suddenly the ledge broke and all the dwarves started falling. In a flash of light the dwarf in the front made a platform grow from the cliff that caught them and like an elevator slowly moved them up to another path to walk on.

Hn. The feeling is mutual. He's the one that made me this way.

With that, Hugin was silent, thank the Gods.

"I really do hate him sometimes. He does have a point, though... If what had happened back there weren't necessary, I'd have thought it wiser to solve the problem myself. I didn't think that I would lose my original means of finding what I was looking for... but that doesn't matter now."

With that, he voiced his opinion. He hadn't found it pretty when he did before, but he took a shot at it anyway.

"You'll have to forgive my... rudeness. It's just that there are quite a few things that don't make sense right now. I'm sure I'll find out later, but there may not be a later. That said, I would like to ask you if there's anything... important you want to tell me before we keep going."
