Kyoki Marie Well, on one note, antibacterial soap doesn't work. >< It's a proven fact these days, not that I can remember from where (mom's training for medical assisting, I never remember where she hears this stuff) . Fine distinction - antibacterial soap does work, but triclosan, a common anti-bacterial, makes bacterial populations drug resistant, which exaserbates the problem. So while it kills most, it increases the number of resistant bacteria, making the number of bacteria that it doesn't kill increase over time. This problem is worse in hospitals, where disinfectants are used so frequently. One day it won't be effective at all. However, alcohol based anti-bacterial soaps do not cause resistance, and are therefore much safer and effective. I would never buy triclosan based soap. That stuff is very bad indeed. But alcohol based soap is great for cold season and food poisoning prevention. Anti-bacterial stuff is overused these days, especially for kids. I had a girl I was tutoring that was constantly using anti-bacterial soap. She hated the smell of her natural body. cry Poor kid. You need dirt when you're young to build up your immune system. I expect that that girl will have allergy or sickness problems when she's older. For a moisturizer, I love pure almond oil. Buy food grade - it's cheaper than cosmetic grade. It's cheap, easy to "make", is edible, doesn't clog pores, and doesn't leave an oily sheen on your skin. heart

Hm. I didn't know about the distinction. I don't use anti-bacterial anything, really... hot water and regular soap are good for me. Alcohol dries my skin, even the soap, and I avoid things like Dial or Purel. (Dawn Dishsoap is my best friend XD)

This is rather random, but I didn't want to create a thread asking about it. Since this guild does much with the uses of plants, would it be appropriate to also have a section of some sorts to cover the folklore and mythology of different plants? I guess I ask because I've been doing some digging in that area myself recently and have come across many interesting things I could share. whee

That could be neat. There are many interesting plants. I actually have two air ferns - no water or soil needed. O.o;

Ooh, I used to have one of those. They came in a little sea-shell magnet thing. XD
Hm.,.. on further consideration, I think Spirituality is the best place for mythology and whatnot, and yay for everyone posting!
Sorry I've been missing, the holidays are really stressful, especially with everuything else going on.

Huh...those air ferns sound interesting. Where would one find one of those? I might give it to my boyfriend's mother- the woman kills plants like none I've ever seen! But one that requires no dirt and no water should be fine with her, right?

you see them in garden centres, but usually in the gifty section, supermarkets have them too if the store is big enough.
they're usually on a little plinth, with a big shell or little ornament of some kind, never seen a big one anywhere, i wonder how large they can get..
