It looks like you're focusing on killing the monolith. In my opinion, this is a mistake.
I think most necron matches are won by people being distracted by the monolith. If I played necrons I'd make mine gold to make it stand out that much more. Focus on assault weapons for mowing down Necron Warriors and trying to get a Phase Out, otherwise while you're busy shooting at the monolith Destroyers, Pariahs, and Warriors are going to be causing havok in your lines.

That's actually what I was focusing on, just in a more shooty sense. The Plasma weapons will have a good chance of killing them, and my HQ will hopefully act as a distraction to him, since it can move 12" and stay 36" away to shoot.

Unfortunately, so can the monolith. And since it sounds like you're using him as an independent character he can be targeted by the monolith's Particle Whip ( Str 9, AP3 ). A Space Marine cowboy wont last long by himself in Necron Lines.

That is true for most Marines, but Samael has an Adamantite Mantel and an Iron Halo, so that covers his 3 wounds pretty well. Plus the Monolith can only move 6" a turn, and it's Particle Whip only shoots 24" if I'm correct. He can easily stay away from it for a while at least.
But yes, lots of melee with power weapons would do the trick nicely, since he can't use his Monolith against units in melee combat. I thought that would work quite well. What would you use for a Dreadnought's gun though, Plasma Cannon or Lascannon? or something else?

However, in the sense of having to kill of 'Crons, you have very little that can actually kill off the Monolith, that being the Lascannon on your Pred' and the Dreadnoughts in CC. Maybe the Assault Cannons if you're lucky.

Yes, but I am going to more or less ignore the Monolith, hoping he will try and send it after the annoying pest I'm going to make my HQ be by staying far enough away from his guys and Monolith so he can't shoot, and possibly dive into his units.

That Monolith will then drive straight into the heart of your units and shred them apart.
It'll be a delicate balancing act to actually play it correctly. To make your Marines effective, you need to get them in closer. However, even if they're locked in CC, the 'Lith can teleport the Necrons away.

That is true too. The thing I was hoping for though is that I could try and get out most of his units as they make their way to me. I'm counting on the slow movement of the Monolith to be it's downfall, though more melee would still help... The Dreads will do that well, but that's only two, should I take one of the 3 tactical squads for an assault one or something?

Aku Kami Kurayami That is true for most Marines, but Samael has an Adamantite Mantel and an Iron HaloAn illegal combination. Check your codex again, you're only allowed one item from the list those are on in your entire -army-.

Dark Angels, buddypal. They're immune to normal codex restrictions.
That and he's riding on a Jetbike, something not seen anywhere else in the Imperium anymore.

Please, stop calling bullshit until you are certain. If I got a penny every time you called on something and were corrected I'd be rich by now.

You've got a job, Mac, a handful of cents isn't going to make you rich, and not everyone has a wall of their house dedicated to shelving rulebooks like you do. Hadn't realized it was a DA list, Caleidah, I was only reading what was on this page.

Aku Kami Kurayami Quick question I got for you guys: I'm trying to come up with a 1500 point army list for something anti-Necron, and I want to know what weapons you think work best with them, me being SM (DA to be exact)
Personally, I think that Plasma should suffice ok. I currently have a list with: HQ: Sammael - jet bike w/ Plasma cannon Elite: 2 Dreads w/ Plasma Cannons and 5 man DW Termies w/ Assault Cannon Troop: 3 ten Marine squads w/ Plasma Guns and Cannons in each Fast Attack: None Heavy Support: Predator w/ Lascannon and Heavy Bolter Sponsons and a Whirlwind
Using the DA ED4 book it's 1500 even. (O.o)
My current strategy is that I sit back and launch all hell at him with Sammael running around and acting all annoying like. The Dreads with stand a bit closer to them than the tactical squads and charge if needed. As for the DW Termies, I think I might DS them behind him and try and get some of his squads to focus on them.
So, any ideas of what could be done better or just what would be a better weapon would be greatly appreciated. Not a really great list for Anti-Necron, in my opinion. The Plasma's okay; it will deny armor saves, but it won't stop WBB, and with the proliferation of 4+ cover saves, shooty is not the way to stop Necrons unless you've got a Demolisher or Leman Russ on your side. More importantly, with your absolute focus on plasma, you have only a couple things which can hurt the Monolith, namely the Predator, the Termies' powerfists, and the DCCW's on the Dreadnoughts. And two of those can only be used in close combat. Personally, I think you need more assault, and more fast assault, especially. Why not take advantage of Sammael's special rules and field some bikes lead by a powerfist/weapon toting sarge as troops? Your dreads can be swapped for either attack bikes or lascannon dev squads.
