Someone else thought the plot sucked? THANK GOD I'M NOT ALONE.

I didn't like the plot. And the ending seemed far too rushed for my liking. neutral

I played the game all the way through though because I do that...no matter how bad the game is, in my mind. But I spent a good 100 hours on the mini-games. Especially the snowboarding one.

The plot is contrived. Take a look at each event and say "Is this happening because it makes sense, or because the writers say it does?" A character dies holding a clearly important materia ("Hmm, what in the world could oppose Sephiroth's black materia?"), and no one thinks to a) use a Phoenix Down, or b) pick up her materia. And that's just the tip of the iceburg.

Worse than that, though, for me, is the setting. It's a dying world, with pretty green vegetation everywhere. Somehow, mysteriously, crystallized magic placed in your weapon or armor grants any loser in the world the ability to use magic, and any number of other things.

There's the framework for something cool, but sheer laziness butchers it.

The funny thing is, I kind of like the characters, except when people start talking about how awesome they are. They're decent. They're alright. But they're not that great. They had the potential for greatness, but were ruined. It seems like they (the designers) were in the middle of building a manifestation of a grand vision, then got talking about something else over lunch, and suddenly everyone stopped caring, and slapped it together just to get the project over with.

FFVII sucked for several reasons... the majority being most of the characters SUCKED, were pricks, wastes of breath, and so on. The storyline was... okei. But it needed lots of work, IMHO. For the time, I guess it was okei. The only redeeming values were Red XIII, Vinnie, Sephie... and uh... that's it. xp
