jellysundae *sneaks in* thanks for the gentle reminder to visit this guild more often. i'm afraid i am guilty of neglecting it, i often poke my head in, but if nothing new has been posted i tend to go away again, i don't have enough knowledge to add stuff myself redface Good afternoon everyone! I believe I am guilty of doing the same thing of sneaking in and then leaving. Thanks for the reminder! I do actually have a few things/questions to add to the guild today. They may be a little silly though lol. But most of my questions are xd

i have a minor cold too, i seem to be fighting it, but it wont go away! when ever i start to feel really rough i take echinacea, but i wonder sometimes, when that doesn't kill it off, whether it just holds it at bay and makes it last longer neutral

Well, thymus is mainly respiratory system though, but effective in use. 3nodding

Right now I'm drinking nettle and mint tea- mostly 'cause it's what I've got that doesn't taste like bitter mud. XD My echinacea plants died off at first-frost, so... >> And my capsules are nearly gone.
Sundae: Maybe your body -needs- to be sick to get rid of it? There's a theory that when you hold your illness at bay with otc medications, it only makes the germs hibernate and they come back when you stop- or it makes the cold last longer. Maybe try taking the weekend to pamper your cold? Rest, eat well, drink fluids, continue taking the echinacea (raven's right, it just boosts your immune system- that means it helps -you- fight the illness. It doesn't fight it for you.) Let yourself be sick- it isn't a -bad- thing. Uncomfortable, yes, but not bad. ^_^
I only take the OTC stuff at night, so I can get a decent night's rest- to me, the con of "this stuff is chemically and really won't help in the long run" is completely overwhelmed by the idea of not having to stuff tissue up my nose to keep from dripping all night. >>

i don't use any OTC cold medication, only ever take echinachea, and i too believe that it can prolong the effects sometimes, but it does lessen them, i don't have the luxury of letting it do its worst over the weekend, as i'm at work 6AM Sunday gonk i just have to watch what i eat, i really want to comfort eat when i have a cold, get the urge to stuff my face with cheese and things like that. i have read that you should avoid dairy produce when you have a cold, as eating a lot of fat increases mucus production eek not sure if that's a load of hogwash or not, but it makes sense to eat healthily when you're bunged up, i cook up brown rice and steamed veggies with a pungent combination of garlic, chilis and ginger blaugh that clears the tubes nicely xd

I think it's the cream in dairy products that makes mucous, and not the fat- but I'm not positive. Hm... I know that milk increases mucous, which is why it's so nice to drink when you have a sore throat- evidently, sore throats are the result of the healthy mucous covering the back of the throat being damaged and exposing the tissues to air and dust and whatnot. That's why coughing can give you a sore throat!
And on a completely different note- your chocolate in your signature is driving me nuts. XD

i work in a food factory and they are very stringent about hand washing, each time you enter or leave the work area, but i never use the soap ninja it's horrible cheap anti-bacterial stuff, if i use it twice in one day my hands start to itch gonk when i had my last health and hygiene refresher they even said, make sure you rinse your hands thoroughly after using the soap or it can give you dermatitis! why use it then! scream evil swines mad they stand and watch the sinks at breaks to make sure people are washing their hands, so i squirt the soap into the palm of my hand, and then just wash it away, i've never failed any swab tests so i can't be that germ ridden rolleyes honestly though, they want to keep hygiene levels high, but provide substandard washing products, i have to wash my glove liners myself too, because they use cheap and nasty washing powder which also gives me a rash mad

Well I work at computer terminals all day, so you have no idea who's been there before you, and who will show up after you, so they're strict about hand washing as well. Of course, like most places, they also use some kind of cheap anti-baterial soap that causes my fingers to crack and bleed - especially around my nails. >.o
I skip out on the soap though. I always keep a bottle of anti-bacterial hand sanitizer -like purrell- in my purse, and I only buy the kinds with extra moisturizers and vitamin e. Of course, sometimes I forget my purse at my computer, and then I'm stuck with the soap. gonk
Kyoki: Enlighten me? surprised

Well, on one note, antibacterial soap doesn't work. >< It's a proven fact these days, not that I can remember from where (mom's training for medical assisting, I never remember where she hears this stuff) but if their soap hurts, bring your own. Castile soap is just as effective and much gentler. ^_^
DS: Well.... >> Sort of a trade secret, so I won't give you details, but our salve for painfully dry skin has lanolin, lavender, vitamin E, comfrey oil, calendula oil, and sunflower and grapeseed oils.
I originally made it for an elderly lady who had very dry lips, up to her nose and down to her chin. It even got infected, it was so bad. So I made the salve to be a powerful moisturizer -and- anti-bacterial and anti-fungal to protect sensitive skin.
