Raithe shrugged, letting out a slight yawn. She'd been awake for a while now, and it was starting to catch up with her. She shook her head and looked back up at the talking Eclipse. "Interesting reason. But whatever you like, i guess." then she turned her gaze on Will. "and you?"

Will had been a mix of meditation and thought. Mostly about this World Tree. He knew Soveliss would have difficulty sleeping, he had long since forgotten that his dreams had been his worst enemy. Haunting him everywhere. But he decided to respectively answer the question. "Well, I had gotten the letter while eating a nice dinner with my co-workers. I was just in the middle of telling the one about the half-orc cleric and the druid dwarf when the ceiling opened. Yes it litterally opened up, and a small letter came down with it. We all stared at the letter in amazement, I was the third person to try and read its contents. I was the only one successful in my atempts. I contacted the appropriate people and they too were in amazement. No one could figure it out. I volunteered to pursue the promise of this letter. I was, and still am infact afraid for the safety of those innocent of this cause. Power is best left for those with it already. Otherwise corruption is all to apparent. Of course the worst kind of power seeking is the one which gives too much for too little. Imagine if all the gods were gods because they simply were given it. No, they worked immensly for their gifts, and to this day its a great responsibility, and a burden for them. Yes, enough of my ranting, I was willing to risk my life to make sure those who were to be affected by this journey would not hurt themselves and innocents around them." For much of his speach, he stared at Shadow, always trying to make eye contact with him especially. Though everytime he spoke of corruption he looked at Soveliss with pity at his current state of having emotion. It was of no benefit to Soveliss to have them.

Still laying down Shadow looked at Will. I've worked to get where I am. Nothing I have was free or easy to attain. Nothing. Now I think we all need some rest. Shadow closed his eyes and was asleep in a few minutes.

Raithe had fallen asleep against Ashen's shoulder half-way through Will's speach. Ashen had been paying attention, and apologized to Will for Raithe's rudeness. "She's still pretty young, please excuse her." He said as he bowed his head slightly. Raithe breathed lightly next to him, her platinum bangs covering her closed eyes.

Ashen then turned his fiery eyes onto Soveliss, and tilted his head. "And why are you here?" He spoke softly in his half-elf voice, so as not to disturb Shadow.

"When I encountered the rest of you in Metrol, the potential I saw in each of you, convinced me that it might be worthwhile to travel with you, if only to exploit that power for my own purposes later. Also, Will is my apprentice, and Tael'braithe.."Soveliss reflected on the absent body. "one of the few I have known for longer than a year whom I can call a friend. A satisfactory response?"

strange, these letters...I wonder why they were sent... "Fascinating. You all have different reasons. Perhaps...that's why each of you were sent the letter? Because of your varying personalities..? Either way, I am in dire need of sleep. And I'm sure you four, Will, Eclipse, Ashen, and Raithe, would like some rest too." He smiled at them, respectively. Then, turning onto his side, he made himself comfortable and slept. A sleep once more haunted by the creations of his mind..

Will decided that he needed sleep, if not due to tiredness, but at least for some comfort. He was amongst the lucky in his proffesion to find comfort in sleep.

Eclipse began to become a little shaky. His eyes were almost shivering, their normal cool blue look had that of a shaken sea. His words were short and very unprepared. "I... um... cannot sleep. I suppose I'll have the... night shift on guard. Yes, I'll be the one on guard for us. I'll stay nearby, but I'll go more towards the mouth of the cave. Yes, goodnight." As he walked away he couldn't help but smile looking at the tired and almost childish facial expressions of Raithe, she was quite the sight in her sleep. But once again his fear clutched at the surface of his brain, and dragged him down to the bowels of his mind.

(Gah! Pedifile! scream domokun xd ))

Ashen didn't move from his position as Raithe's pillow, partially for fear of waking her, and also because he didn't feel the need to sleep either. He decided to remain as another guard as well. When Eclipse got up and left to guard the mouth of the cave, Ashen couldn't help but notice the look he gave Raithe. And he didn't much care for it. But, rather then bring anything up, he let it go. He could have just been seeing things anyways.

Ashen glanced down at Raithe leaning on his shoulder and sighed. He was going to have to move her anyways, or she'd hurt herself sleeping like that. Hoping that her ability to sleep through almost anything would persist, Ashen set her head down on his lap, so that she lay at his side. It was much easier to support her in his dragon form, but he didn't have the luxury of that right now. He placed on hand on her shoulder protectively, and resumed his role of guard.

Seeming to come from above, a dull whisper echoed quietly in the cave around Eclipse. "You'll be very glad you stayed awake, Eclipse. We wouldn't want the same tragedy to repeat itself, now would we...perhaps this time you can be responsible for keeping everyone...alive. They're counting on you." A laugh followed. It was short and hollow, quickly fading into the darkness.

Eclipse instantly fell down on one knee, clutching at his heart. He began to gasp for air, and his breathing became quite heavy. He tried his best to stay focused, and unsheathed his blade. He stood up with great difficulty and rushed to see if his allies weren't already dead.

Ashen felt and heard Eclipse coming up behind him and turned his head to look. "Is everything all right?" He said, tilting his head and cocking an eyebrow. Raithe still slept quietly on his lap, not sensing a thing.

There are no signs of any additional people anywhere in the cavern.
"Don't worry, they're not dead yet. But I can't guarantee anything if you're not strnog enough to save them. But if you fail again, you will lose them..." The voice was even quieter now, barely audible in the giant room. The sound seems to come from right beside both of Eclipse's ears.

Eclipse's heart was racing too hard, it felt like it was on the verge of exploding. He spoke softly and calmly to Ashen, but his eyes darted and would have easily given him away to any person with any skill in detecting lies. "Oh, its really nothing big, but I forgot most of my shuriken behind." He pointed to the shuriken that laid where Eclipse had been standing minutes ago, yet they had not been there when he had left that spot. He picked them up, rather slowly. This is a test, Will told me that this thing was testing us. How does it know what I feel though. How does it know things I've never spoken? Will doesn't even know fully of this tale, and he can...He decided not to go further in thought. Eclipse simply had to remain calm. He thought of that horrible night, the one night where everyone didn't get out alive. Eclipse had been so tired, and sleep didn't seem like that bad of an idea at the time. Dozens of ninja were on night guard, and it wasn't even his responsibility. Eclipse would never know if choosing to sleep had cost him his village or not. he almost screamed in his own skull to see if this thing was listening. You cannot beat me at your dispicable mind games! I will keep these people safe to my dieing breath, whether or not I sleep.

Ashen didn't remove his gaze from Eclipse, and his ember eyes bore into him. "Did you see something?" He asked quietly, his eyebrow still raised. He removed his hand from Raithe's shoulder and searched his clothes for a dagger. Raithe noticed the lack of th weight on her shoulder and stirred in her sleep. She turned over onto her back, still asleep. Ashen glanced down at her instinctively, and sighed when he saw she hadn't woken up. Then he turned his gaze back to Eclipse, slightly worried about the way he was acting.

Chapter 5: A Dreamed Evil

Ivellios watched everything unfold below him. This whole time, completely undetected by the adventurers who had set up camp down on the ground, he had been waiting, listening, observing, from the canopy of the tree. The faintest whispers from the ground were as loud to him as if they were all right next to him. Although miles up, the figures below could be clearly made out by him as he watched. Waiting...

He could sense it when the tree granted the desires of people. Soveliss had several changes made to himself, while Shadow wished for two things. Both of his were silent desires, and one had been subconcious. "Heh. Those fools...but," he looked down to the leaves at his feet, shining like emeralds in the light. "You've been generous tonight.."

At last, the diminutive figures below had gone to rest, save for Ashen and Eclipse. Ivellios decided that this was an opportune moment to pull some strings. Even from where he currently stood, Ivellios could whisper in Eclipse's ear, and so he did just that.

"Don't worry, they're not dead yet. But I can't guarantee anything if you're not strnog enough to save them. But if you fail again, you will lose them..." The voice was even quieter now, barely audible in the giant room. The sound seems to come from right beside both of Eclipse's ears.

It's working perfectly... he thought to himself as he became a spectator of the results of his own actions. He could feel the strain his words had brought to Eclipse. Now he would show himself to them, and the real fun could begin.

His figure seemed to disappear into the folds of reality, replaced by an incorporeal shadow with his dimensions. All colors of his body faded into a dull black, all definitions of his form were now, instead, simply the silhouette of his former corporeal form. He stretched his body, his upper half extending over the edge of the canopy, and touching down on the ground below, the opposite side of the tree as the adventurers. His bottom half followed as soon as he reached the ground. ((think of a slinky))

Keeping directly against the tree, just above the spikes, Ivellios wove around the tree, until he was on the side directly facing the party.

"At last, an appropriate encounter, Eclipse. This should prove to be more efficient than our last." He said coldly, loud enough for both Eclipse and Ashen to hear.

Ashen shot his head around at the sound of the new voice. He gripped his dagger firmly in his hand, and shook Raithe's shoulder with the other. "Little Sister...." He hissed under his breath, "It's time to get up..." Raithe stirred slightly, but simply turned back over onto her side, grumbling in her sleep.

Ashen scowled at her. This wasn't the time for her to be sleeping, but there wasn't much he could do about it. He waited patiently for Ivellios to make his move, or his intentions clear.
