Lt. Brookman
Judging from that picture it looks as though marines can ride in Deathwind drop pods. If that is the case than GW has officially lost their marbles and cunted out on the marines.
Uh... I'm looking at the current Codex: Space Marines right now, and I'm seeing the option for a Deathwind Missile Launcher on the Drop Pod entry. So GW's had their marbles lost since last edition.

also, talking of mixing squad weapons, i have a pretty sweet looking conversion i did recently of a power amoured marine with a sniper. he has the marine commander helmet with the 3 lenses over one eye, and has kit packs and stuff, as if he works alone, does reconnassaince missions, etc.
Wow, small world! I did the same thing just last week! Sniper rifle, kneeling legs, commander helmet and the tac sarge's front plate. Unfortunately, the helmet and plate don't get along too well, but it still looks pretty neat.

On the topics of:

-Shotguns vs. Bolters: Since bolters can fire faster and the bolts explode, they are more useful than a shotgun. Also, boltguns are less powerful than grenade launchers. Grenades have larger explosions and are more powerful.

If you are familiar with the games, a boltgun is somwhere between the Crossbow in Half-Life and the Needler in Halo, in a sense anyway.

-Drop Pod Deathwind Launcher Transports: This Kind of makes sense to me. For starters, GW has raised the points cost of Drop Pods. I don't think anyone would actually take a Deathwind pod, at least not from what I've seen.

From a fluff approach it kind of makes sense. The drop pod lands, blasts short range missles to clear the immediate area, and then the Marines march out to pick off stragglers and set up positions.

Interesting Facts:
- Dark Angel and Blood Angel drop pod costs more and cannot take a Deathwind launcher.

Too bad GW removed the rule where the Death Wind shoots automatically at the nearest target, friend or foe, for one turn. I'd love to see disembarking marines get shotted by their own ride.

But hey, if marines get a crappy one-way pod to the surface, then the Imperial Guard might get their plastic Valkyries after all. And those are sooo much better than those crummy pods.
PostPosted: Tue May 20, 2008 5:46 am

Valkyrie plastics would be a possibility if they get rules in the actual codex. wink

Planetstrike is the key to that. More people will fly around so enter plastic transports like the Valkyrie. Maybe the Thunderhawk, but that one cannot compete with the sheer amount of coolness of a Valkyrie filled with airborne soldiers.

really? mines stood up, its photo is here:

The Mechanicus Hangar :: FL's Album

mine was built with the spare scout sniper, the one with no arms, after a little trimming it fitted really well, add a slate base, a crux terminatus icon to the shoulder, knives, kit packs, spare scope, etc and its done. it is part of my command squad (which also includes a techmarine, i prefer the old rule where a techmarine was a command squad member, along with rules that should be there, like tactical snipers)

Well, I'm going to be in a nice sized RTT next weekend and was going to be trying out a bit of a new Dark Angel list, 1750pts. Hoping to get some thoughts/comments.

HQ:

Interrogator-Chaplain: Storm Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Crozius, Rosarius, Krak and Frag Grenades

Elites:

Dreadnought: Venerable, Heavy Flamer, Extra Armour, Twin-Linked Autocannon, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight

Scout Squad (5):
Veteran Sergeant: Powerfist, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
Scout: Heavy Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
Scouts (3): Boltgun, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades

Troops:

Tactical Squad (10):
Veteran Sergeant: Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Plasma Gun, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Plasma Cannon, Krak and Frag Grenades
Rhino: Extra Armour, Hunter-Killer Missle, Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight

Tactical Squad (10):
Veteran Sergeant: Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Plasma Gun, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Plasma Cannon, Krak and Frag Grenades

Tactical Squad (10):
Veteran Sergeant: Plasma Pistol, Power Fist, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Meltagun, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Multi-Melta, Krak and Frag Grenades
Rhino: Extra Armour, Pintle Mounted Storm-Bolter, Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight

Fast Attack:

Ravenwing Attack Squad (5):

Ravenwing Bike Squad (3):
Veteran Sergeant: Power Sword, Bolt Pistol, Bike, Krak and Frag Grenades, Teleporter Homer
Biker: Plasma Gun, Bolt Pistol, Bike, Krak and Frag Grenades, Teleporter Homer

Ravenwing Attack Bike:
Attack Bike: Multi-Melta, Bolt Pistol, Bike, Krak and Frag Grenades, Teleporter Homer

Ravenwing Land Speeder: Heavy Bolter, Assault Cannon

Heavy Support:

Whirlwind: Smoke Launchers, Searchlight

Devastator Squad (5):
Veteran Sergeant: Bolt Pistol, CCW, Krak and Frag Grenades
Devastator: Lascannon, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
Devastator: Rocket Launcher, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
Devastator: Heavy , Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades

I included all the 'standard' equipment, just for anyone not familar with DA. I'm not upgrade happy, just get a lot of freebies. Also, the Devastator Squad may seem weird. They were originally two lascannons, but I wanted them to be able to cover more support roles, so I swapped the lascannon for a rocket launcher and heavy bolter.

Good, though I feel the few extra points for Melta Bombs would be better. Similarly, I don't think you can carry three weapons on an Infantry Model, though ask your local GW staff first.

Quote:
Dreadnought: Venerable, Heavy Flamer, Extra Armour, Twin-Linked Autocannon, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight
A rocket launcher or regular Storm Bolter seems it would be better for fire-support purposes (Or the anti-tank the Autocannon suggests), though this is a fine model.

Quote:
Scout Squad (5):
Veteran Sergeant: Powerfist, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
Scout: Heavy Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
Scouts (3): Boltgun, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
If you can, take the Bolt Pistol and make it a Bolter. The loss of one attack isn't that big a deal when you get at least two more shots (on average) with better hit averages (on average). Like the Dread, though, it's fine as is.
Quote:
Tactical Squad (10):
Veteran Sergeant: Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Plasma Gun, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Plasma Cannon, Krak and Frag Grenades
Rhino: Extra Armour, Hunter-Killer Missle, Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight
Perhaps drop the Smoke Launchers or the extra weapons. If you're moving forward to drop off troops, you won't get to fire fully. Similarly, if used as fire support, the Smoke Launches limit your firing capacity. As with all the above, this is only to save some points. It'll work fine as-is.

Quote:
Tactical Squad (10):
Veteran Sergeant: Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Plasma Gun, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Plasma Cannon, Krak and Frag Grenades
Fine, a little costly, but fine.

Quote:
Tactical Squad (10):

Marine: Meltagun, Krak and Frag Grenades
Marine: Multi-Melta, Krak and Frag Grenades
Rhino: Extra Armour, Pintle Mounted Storm-Bolter, Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight
If this is meant to be mobile Anti-Tank, drop the Multi and replace it with a regular melta (If possible), and if stationary the Multi is fine, though would often be best swapped with a lascannon while the Melta is dropped. THe Multi-Melta has the flaw of being a 24" Heavy weapon that works best within 12". If not taken in groups, it tends not to do too hot. Can work, though, and it is your choice.

Quote:
Ravenwing Attack Squad (5):
Cannot comment (Not familiar enough with base gear).

Quote:
Ravenwing Bike Squad (3):
Veteran Sergeant: Power Sword, Bolt Pistol, Bike, Krak and Frag Grenades, Teleporter Homer
Biker: Plasma Gun, Bolt Pistol, Bike, Krak and Frag Grenades, Teleporter Homer
Any need for the mass of Homers? I see no Terminators.

Quote:
Ravenwing Attack Bike:
Attack Bike: Multi-Melta, Bolt Pistol, Bike, Krak and Frag Grenades, Teleporter Homer
Same question on the Homer, though the Multi-Melta works here. You have an effective 36" Range on the weapon instead of 24".

Quote:
Ravenwing Land Speeder: Heavy Bolter, Assault Cannon
Always fine, though in the new rules you may not need the HB if you intend to keep moving and firing (Not sure if Fast will still be capable of firing two primary weapons on the go).

Quote:
Whirlwind: Smoke Launchers, Searchlight
I see no real need for the Smoke Launchers, as you then cannot fire the ordinance. Your call, though, as it is a cheap enough upgrade to not matter much in the grand scheme.

Quote:
Devastator Squad (5):
Veteran Sergeant: Bolt Pistol, CCW, Krak and Frag Grenades
Devastator: Lascannon, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
Devastator: Rocket Launcher, Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
Devastator: Heavy , Bolt Pistol, Krak and Frag Grenades
One too many heavy weapons, to my knowledge. Drop the Heavy, and if you can swap the Rocket for an Autocannon (Slightly better damage average than a rocket on Tanks) or another lascannon (Which, with the 15pts dropped on the HB, should put the 2nd Las at no point change for the squad).

Dark Angels Infantry all get bolt pistols, frag grenades, and krak grenades for free.
Ravenwing Bikers all get teleporter homers, bolt pistols or ccws, and frag and krak grenades for free (not to mention they count as Scouts and are Fearless).

All Dark Angel vehicles get free smoke launchers and searchlights (including the dreadnought).

As for three weapons, all DA infantry can have a pistol in addition to their regular arsenal. I can only take one meltagun in the anti-tank squad. A 'Ravenwing Attack Squad' is the bikes and the landspeeder. DA can count six bikes, and attack bike, and one landspeeder as a single fast attack choice. Sadly I can't take Autocannons in devastator squads. I'm using a rocket launcher and heavy bolter along with the lascannon because I'm hoping to make a semi-balanced squad, that can attack about anything and do resonable damage. Since I have a lot of specific anti-infantry and anti-vehicle weapons, I wanted my fire support to be a bit mixed.

Sweet bleeding lord upon the cross...

The Master of the Forge is great looking...Damn my love for the Ad. Mech. Hopefully the next Chaos Dex allows for a Tech Lord again.

To me it looks like Marines will be... BS marines and no longer Codex Astartes marines... D;

I hope not... >_o

And they're slowly turning into bling-bling marines. xD

I don't mind it, but I prefer plain power armour marines, gives a better feel to them if you ask me, I'm a huge fan of the marine artwork in 2nd and 3rd edition, and there's no such thing as bling-bling there, but nowdays they're all gangsta, fo' shizzle! XD

holyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshit.

Makes me want to start a marine army, I especially like that Crimson Fist character with the glove mounted storm bolter. The tech priest with the remote gun is shite though, too much clumped together. Scout Captain looks tasty as well.

I gotta have me a box of those veterans though, scoped bolters with massive bricks of ammo slotted underneath ftw!

And I guess this means that Marines are up first, then Dark Eldar and finally Guard crying

edit.

Is there a release date out yet? October, check this out: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/212075.page

Scouts finally become scouts with WS and BS 3, thank you!

Guess they'll make scouts a bit cheaper then. Looks pretty fun!

I wanna know what that cannon thing the techmarine has does. Aside from kill s**t.

I'm mostly happy from a fluffy point of view as scouts are supposed to be novices, not marines minus armour. Personally I welcome this idea, a lot of marine players though will most likely ditch their scouts in favour of more marines most likely.

Exception to this are of course the Wolf Scouts.
