I still need to get a set. I don't know where though. Ace, Do you know any good names? or brands?
Pearl makes great drum sets, but they're pretty expensive. I would recommend getting a Pearl Export or Forum, they're the least expensive drum sets and they're great drum sets actually.
When you do get your drum set what matters is quality, sound, and price. I'm not the one to buy a drum set on the internet though there are good sites that are nice places to get drum sets. They will often say the drum set is the best they have online, but who knows really. Thats why you should buy at a real store, not online. Many stores allow you to actually test the drum set out there. Many stores that I prefer are American Music or Daddy's Junky Music (I get mostly everything there, though I don't know if there is one near you) but there should definitely be an American Music store where you live or another music store.
Some cheap drum sets could be from Tama or Mapex, personally I have nothing against Tama, they make pretty good drum sets. Mapex, I'm not too sure about. Remember there is a huge difference between the brand name and the drum set name. For example, a Mapex-M drum set is a lot better than a Mapex-X series. Same thing goes a Tama Starclassic is a lot better than a Tama Stagestar. Many of these kinds of drum sets do sound the same, but ask around for better deals on them.
Now before you go out and buy a drum set. First you have to know what kind of kit is being sold. For example:
Complete Sets-These usually come with drum shells, drum heads, 13" or 14" hi-hats, 14" or 16" crash, 20" ride, snare stand or kick pedal.
Personally, if I were a beginner drummer and have the lack of money. Then I would just buy everything seperate, yes it may see a bit hard but it's a lot easier than shelling out $500-who knows how much money a set can cost.
Things you should have are:
-Drum heads
-Bass Pedal
-Hi-hat, Cymbal, Crash
-Stands
-Two Boom or straight cymbal stands
-Drumsticks
-Snare
-Bass drum
-Tom Tom
That's about it for now, if you want I can get more information on the brands. Just asking me anything you want and I'll try and answer your questions.
