"Why....what do you want with my husband?" Her voice quivered as her body trembled and her silent cries shook her.

Her eyes flashed as anger mixed with her sorrow and her fear. Getting up she slapped him across the face extremely hard and she started shaking. "YOU WILL NOT KILL HIM!!"

Arrode, the Shining laughed with mirth. "Why so arrogant? Even the strongest fall with a single blow. I too did not use all my energy to battle you in case the the duel would last hours...or even days. Such endurance is a must to a gifted warrior. Who is a single warrior that does not condition themselves to the most extreme of situations? I was born eons before you were and I have observed the nature of universe, the stars, and life itself. I know your desires, strengths, and weaknesses. Who are you to say that you are a 'Manslayer?'" She paused, remembering the kanji that appeared on the field moments ago. "Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. That is the single deadly flaw in your spell. The energy that you have received is through the strain of your own energy supply. Therefore you are wasting your energy."

Arrode grinned. "I have already found an error in your calculations. Who are you really, 'Manslayer?' I doubt that human flesh is as quick as lightning. I have seen you generate devastating gusts with a sweep of your arm, but that is only near my own skill. But," she smiled, "Let's get this show on the road."

Arrode closed her eyes and entered into a deep trance. Reality blurred around her and she felt the boundaries of the universe expand, the forces of wind and gravity, and her soul...freed. She allowed herself to disorient and follow the flow of the universe, collecting the streams of electrons that flowed past her. She sparkled with electricity and glowed an intense brightness that would surely burn the retinas of all of those who approached near her. The Ico and the Ico Rebels shielded their eyes and faced away as the spectacle unraveled. Then all she heard was silence. No longer was the shrieks of the soldiers, the sighs of the wind, and the radiation of her own energy audible to her. She only heard his heartbeat. She smiled to herself. It was a beautiful heartbeat. It drummed loudly with determination and confidence. She was blind and deaf to all but this instrument that determined the lifeline of this great warrior. Seek within yourself for the strength to face the beating of the opponent's drumming. Seek the heart, she thought to herself as the expression on her face turned blank.

Rayne stood there for a moment and was pondering upon a strategic manuever to combat Arrode, but he decided to ' remove' all of his emotion and this created a lack of "battle aura". This mean that there is no form of actually sensing on how strong he was and how he would attack. He stood there for a moment with only one type of emotion: Tranquil. He gave a small smile and responded " So you can examine other people's flaws too and I guess I wasn't the only one, but there was a flaw that I spotted long time ago , you are a being of light and that I will take advantage of your appearance very easily. My spell can be figured out in many ways, but that is not the only meaning to it. Indeed energy can either be created or destory, but I wasn't really using the my energy, it was the energy that was from the earth itself or I would rather say it was the energy from the Azuchi ruins." If...I can recall....Nobunaga have said that his energy clings onto the foundation of the castle and its foundation.....it is universal...to those of the odah..or if he was a odah or former odah .....that is when it is possible to....obtain ....it... Rayne thought to himself as he knew that was the aim of his spell and he remained silent as he looked at Arrode, but was barely able to even see her through that blinding light, He decide to close his eyes.

Suddenly his whiteish blue flame aura completely vanished and his hearing became more acute. He heard all the heartbeats around him and he even heard his own heartbeat I sense....of fear....and annoyance...from the Ico rebel...fear...is all around them.... He thought to himself as he went into a tranquil state in his subconcious mind and everything was becoming clear to him. He can actually sense everything around him and any attacks that would happend at this instant he would know when it would happend, since he can sense the person's emotions. The lack of "battle aura" was his advantage because he does not have any emotion except for being calm.

He stood there with all of his nerves and muscles relaxed, yet he was still noticing the changing rate of everyones heartbeat except for his. Indeed everyone was starting to panic and some of them were even nervous. It was almost as though Rayne was reading their minds, but he wasn't and it was through his acute hearing that was multiplied ten times by the spell that was able to sense the people's emotions.

His mind was completely clear of all distractions and only focused on the upcoming hand-to-hand combat, but through this state he zoned in on Arrode's heartbeat and notice that it too was going at the same state he heard few moments ago. This type of method that he have long mastered was known as the Me Shin Kon ( Eye of the Heart and Soul) and this method gave him a second insight of the opponent. This is why he was able to kill the opponent because he was able to know when the opponent will strike. It was a sense of awareness that grows stronger whenever he fights in battles, but this method was used in many of his battles and did not require the spell that he have cast.
