"Your eyes can be so cruel, just as I can be so cruel...."

.......¬ J A R E T H ⌐

location: dreamweavers gift shoppe
company: vivianne (mizumi)
form: human
mood: surprised, genuinely grateful, reliever, trepidatious
thoughts: "...What is she playing at? She knows I have nothing left."

He closed his eyes for a brief moment as he felt her gentle touch linger against his cheek, caressing down before ultimately leaving his skin, only to tap at the tip of his nose like she were doing something so typical such a scolding a child. Jareth reached up, rubbing his nose indignantly and straightened. Though for as prim and proper, and regal as he appeared to be, it was all too clear that Mizumi had the upper hand. Truth be told he hated being this way. Oh he was marvelous at keeping it hidden...even from Sarah, as he asked her each and every time simply for his heart, knowing what would happen, knowing the inevitable outcome of their 'I hate you, but I need you' game.

He'd even managed to keep it concealed from Regina when he visited his former charge. But around Mizumi...and only her....he knew he didn't have to hide. He could lose himself right then and there. He could fall apart, his very will (which was all he had left) could extinguish there in her arms, and he could be be content in the poetic justice of it all. But he wasn't down for the count yet. And he certainly wasn't going down without a fight. Sarah would surrender, and return the Pathmaker to him. He would make her. His eyes flashed for the briefest of a second as he reopened them and Jareth glanced down as Mizumi pondered his request for aid.....and ultimately decided he was worth keeping around for a touch longer.
"...Mizumi...it's beautiful."

The sheer creativity floored him as he watched the surface of the dream orb 'ripple' before it crystallized and pulsed with power. The world within it was fantastical, and full of both depth and whimsy. It very nearly left him breathless. He removed one of his gloves and reached over slowly, fingertips gracing along the surface of the glass and he felt a surge of 'life' from within it. He could feel. It wasn't his heart, no, but it would more than suffice for the time being.

Withdrawing his hand, he gazed back at the Queen of Cups quite seriously then as she made her offer. But...what did he have to give in return? What could he give, that she would accept as payment? He'd had clever loopholes and prophetic entanglements to hide behind before, but here? Now? Jareth was a fallen monarch...and he had nothing left to give, and no bargaining chips left to play.
"....Whatever you would have of me, love. Name your price."

Vivianne Arvin
Mizumi Queen of Cups

Mizumi looked into his eyes and for a brief moment there was a raw sort of pain in her gaze. It passed like a shadow but it was obvious; though the wounds of old had not festered, they were hardly considered healed. What she would have of him... the thought was almost too painful to contemplate. The Queen of Cups knew what she wanted, but his love was not something she could simply demand. It had to be given freely and Mizumi had given up trying to convince him she was worth loving. Nor did he expect him to suddenly have a change of heart. Such foolish thoughts had left her around the same time she'd given Drumlin back her form.

The crystal continued showing her dream as the landscape filled with all manner of impossible beings. Then there, at the center of it all was Jareth in all of his splendor. Jareth as he had been and at the same time, as he would never be, for by his side was a faceless woman wearing an intricate gown in the style of Moraine. Her first dream of Elysium... a place where she was loved and wanted. The precious emotions made the orb ripple with power and Mizumi had to curb her own longing to prevent it from showing. To her, the dream was more precious than diamonds. It was a place where she could escape the cold nothingness of reality. Yet here she was, offering him a sanctuary of warmth and sunlight to flee the encroaching darkness.

Was it truly beautiful? Well...

"Most dreams are," she replied simply as she gazed into the orb, "in fact dreams can be priceless."

She knew what she wanted then. The one thing she had never truly gotten from him. The one thing she could demand as payment.

"But for you, my dear, I think a kiss will do," she replied with a wry smile, "a kiss for my dream. Would that be fair, your majesty?"

She could ask for more. In fact she could enslave him on the spot, but what good would that do?

Love cannot be borne out of captivity. It is impossible to force someone to hand over their heart from behind iron bars. It is not a simple task even when given willingly. Love is layered, without depth, the emotion cannot grow.

Mizumi knew Belle's thoughts had trickled into her essence taming her arrogant nature. It would be easy to turn Jareth into her puppet. He would remain hollow, forever dependent on Mizumi... was that not what she had attempted to gain when creating Moppet? Belle had changed Mizumi for the better. She could accept defeat graciously instead of attempting to dominate what remained of the Goblin King.

The price was fair: a kiss. Not because he needed her to be silent... not because he sought her favor... not given to soften a blow... A simple kiss pure and devoid of malice or ulterior motives. If he could give her that, she would be willing to at long last part with her first dream. Perhaps now, she could at long last be free of her need for him.

Daniel The Stable Boy

User Image

User ImageUser Image

on't you fret, my dear...
...t'll all be over soon.

"There are worse things out there, Daniel. Sometimes even worse than my mother."

Hurrying along the streets, Daniel noticed a frazzled-haired man noticing one of the women from the diner. Oddly, the woman--a bit confused herself--seemed like she would be able to handle herself and the man. Seeing Belle and another woman with her not too far away, there was a look of relief on him. Still becoming the caboose, though--it was instinct for him to make sure all were secured--there was a bit of hesitation seeing the other man and woman.

Looking back over to Belle, who now became the leader alongside her new-found friend and Granny, there was a warming tug at his freshly formed heart. Like something comforting and relieving about it. He only wanted Belle safe. Sure, she too could handle herself; but unlike the rest of the group--Tristan, Graham, or even Gold...if he read the name of the pawn shop correctly--Daniel had nothing to prove his manliness; so it seemed his temporary duty to make sure that woman was safe.

However, the kind-hearted man that he is could not leave the other two alone completely. Moving quickly over to them, he let out an intentional but gentle cough.
"My apologies for the interruption of this delicate reunion, but I do not think it is safe to have it out in the middle of the street with a Shadow-creature thingie ruining Granny's place." Well, at least his vocabulary is now up to snuff. Maybe his courage will be as well? ...Eventually.

Somewhere, there was a tiny dream...

Alyssa Little

User ImageUser Image

Letting out a little chirp of unexpected notice when Belle, if Alyssa heard the man correctly, grabbed a hold of her wrist to practically drag her towards the boarded up library. Strange. A library with no natural light gateway? Curious. Never the matter. Once Belle opened up the door, Alyssa helped those in--although, upon closer look, most were just shaken up. The veterinarian in her instantly went to those with visible injuries. Although she was no expert on the human bodies; but at least she was once thinking about becoming a nurse before animals became her little niche--strangely of cats and rabbits; but she loved all of them.

Walking over to one of the men, she gave a calm and warming smile--honestly not too sure how a citizen would like a complete stranger helping him out.
"Don't keep pressure on it. It will dig the shards deeper. Just place your thumb to the side of it to avoid moving it. I'll be right back." Too bad her car was not near by, she always had an advanced version of a first aid kit in her trunk--which had tweezers in it. Moving back over to Belle, Alyssa kept a quick and mental count of those who were injured by the shattered glass. Like having roll call, it was Alyssa who answered Belle's question. "A few of them are injured, but nothing too terrible. A good amount of them are still shaken up. Do you, by chance, have a pair of tweezers or thin scissors? Those who are injured have some shards that are too thin or small for the naked fingers."

The elder woman was able to find a sliver of light to look past the boards and the taped-up newspapers to peek on through to the street. "I think Daniel is still out there with Aria and Arthur." Granny was one of those who knew and memorized the person's true name once the person themselves remember it; but she always found it more comforting to call them by their "cursed" names.

Isabelle "Belle" French

User ImageUser Image
If either of you cared about me, you would have listened...

Belle frowned as she saw several people with deep gashes. She went to the main desk and after digging for a little while, brought out an old worn first aid kit. The antibiotics and medicines must have been well past the expiration date but there was gauze and tools inside that could be useful.

"Here, this might help," she offered the kit to Alyssa.

She tried to get everyone settled as the battle raged outside. Every so often a piercing shriek made Belle's insides seize up. Rumpelstiltskin was out there, facing down a nightmare and it worried her. She realized how foolish the thought was the moment it manifested. The fact of the matter was that her beloved was far more dangerous than anything that could be conjured. She'd seen him face down a dragon once with nothing but a wave of a hand and a hysteric sort of giggle. If anything the creature should be pitied.

While cleaning the vast chambers of the Dark Castle, she'd often come across pieces of monsters harmlessly bottled as ingredients or preserved in some aesthetically pleasing manner. Nothing could harm her within the tall stone walls and Belle had felt a grim sort of pleasure in the knowledge.

Isabelle chuckled in the shadow confines of her mind, and the same dark streak made Belle wonder which parts of a nightmare her lover would keep as a trophy.

"I think Daniel is still out there with Aria and Arthur."

Belle's eyes snapped up to look at Granny. A brief moment of panic overwhelmed her as she realized the danger Daniel now found himself in. She hurried towards the nearest window. Wishing Granny was mistaken, but alas that was not the case.

"They all need to get in here right now," she frowned and her eyes nearly sizzled with electric blue light.

In the future when she was telling this tale, she would note the lack of forethought that went into her actions. Fueled by adrenaline and a healthy dose of apprehension, she burst through the double doors and into the street.

"Daniel, are you alright? You're not hurt are you?" she asked as she approached him.

Tristan Harker ~ Hercules

Tristan had no idea what was going on here, the creature just didn't seem to be taking any damage, anything they did just made it shriek in anger and make it a hell of a lot more pissed. Tristan kicked up a table, much like Graham to shelter from the beasts breath of fire. "Jesus what the hell is this thing?!" he said as he felt the full force of the heat hit him full on and sending him backwards. He landed half way across the diner top and pulled out a shard of glass from his calf with a wince.

"Take more than that." he said as he got to his feet, only to be joined by a small boy. Who whilst seemed to be very skilled with magic, was not doing a lot of damage to the creature as he was the building. "Kid, I don't know who you are, but remind me not to piss you off."

He picked up the fire extinguisher again and when the creature let out its breath of fire once more he set it off and then threw it into the mouth of the creature, he was pretty much grasping at straws here.

He once again took up a defensive stance as Mr Gold appeared at the bar. "Gold! Don't just sit there! Give us some help!" In his life Hercules had fought many a beast, he had completed the trials and had shed his blood to do so, he had defeated the worst of the worst but with this thing he was stumped. He did all he could, he even picked up a reflective surface and hurled it at the creature so it could see its own reflection as it expelled its fiery breath.

He still had his knife in his hand, and deciding the creatures mouth was the best target, he cut it left and right, distracting it before reaching its mouth and thrusting his blade into its open jaw and twisting the blade.

Mordred LeFay Pendragon
MATTHEW ISAAC MORRIS

"I'm sorry father, but I'm going to destroy you...

User Image
Riddles...riddles. Always riddles with magical beasts! Minotaurs didn't bother with riddles, they just snorted, charged, and gored your face off with their horns if you got too cheeky. Or introduced your face to the broadside of their axes before hacking you to pieces. Manticores simply shot poison from their stingers, and dragons? Well apart from venomous claws and teeth, there was whole fire-breathing thing to be concerned with. But riddles? Honestly who used those anymore? It wasn't that Mordred was not clever enough to sort it out with a touch of thinking, but it was downright annoying!

Glaring up at the Shade as it rounded on them from it's cover in the shadows, Mordred had half a mind to rip the rest of the building down just to give the creature nowhere to take shelter, and force it into the light. As for now, he stood with Rumplestiltskin...dear god, that was the 'uncle' Auntie Mab barely spoke of, wasn't he? Turning around to get a good look at the Dark One, the boy smirked. He would have to get to know this 'uncle' later. Now was not the time. He wracked his brain frantically, trying desperately to remember Uncle Frick's lessons.
"....Damn you, Frick...Why didn't you make those lessons more in-depth?!"

He hissed under his breath and brought his hands to his head, muttering another soft spell, his hands gave off a dull, but glowing white light. "Recollecto-memorium..."Mordred swam back through his own thoughts, diving through his mind and browsing each and every memory as if it were simply a photograph. Flipping through them rapidly, he brought up a particular one and smiled. Ah yes! Blinking free of his 'flashback', Mordred let out a startled cry as a few venomous quills were hurling towards his head...but they never impacted with him! He gasped as he felt a hand snatch the back of his t-shirt and hoist him up off the floor and out of the water with ease. He was spun around and set down on top of one of the stools at that was still standing, the lot of them still within the column of bright, warm sunlight that shone down through the gaping hole in the roof.

Glancing at the Rumplestiltskin incredulously, he raised a brow. That was going to eat away at him. The Dark one had just saved his life, now he owed him a debt. Mordred hated, loathed that fact. He sneered at his 'uncle' but thanked him nonetheless and rounded on the shade once more. Pointing an accusing finger at the creature, the boy knew the answer to it's riddle, and he knew it's name. There was power in name
s. "...SHADE! I name you, creature! Thou art a SHADE! Oh yes....clever, very clever but so am I. I will answer your riddle, Shade. If I am permitted to speak for these men."

All magic comes with a price....
"I know how to recognize a desperate soul...

Rumplestiltskin gave a hearty, but whimsical cackle as Tristan shouted, practically pleading for his help! Not too long ago, he recalled the brash young man had burst into his shop ready to try to fell him. The irony amused him so greatly it very nearly brought a tear to his eye in laughter. He stood there in the sunflight, the golden rays reflecting lightly off of his skin as he clutched that ball of gathered light carefully in his hand."Mehehehhhehe! Isn't it just sooooo convenient, Mr. Harker, that you should all despise me so deeply, but when you're at your wits end, who is it you call out to for help? Hmm...?"

His senses struck like lightning as the creature expelled those poisoned nettles, and Rumple reached down quickly, snatching the boy, Mordred, up off his feet and out of harms way. One of the spines sank into his boot, missing his leg, but cutting the fabric easily. The venom burned at the leather and he slipped it off, tossing it aside with an ugly little sneer of displeasure. He liked those shoes. Now he had only a one. Still clutching the ball of sunlight, he hurled it at Graham, enveloping the sheriff in a 'bubble' of light that would act like a shield against those quills.

Setting Mordred down atop a stool, he stood close by the boy. He had no doubt that Tristan and Graham were more than capable of looking after their own behinds, but magical or not, powerful or not, Mordred was just a child. Or so he appeared. He was a slight bit apprehensive around the boy. Something wasn't quite 'right' about him.
"Unfortunately, Mr. Harker, this is one of those 'do-it-yourself' kinds of moments. I can't touch that thing with my magic. It'll only get stronger. Man up, and do your duty. You're a 'hero' afterall, aren't you? Do something heroic! Hmhmhmehehee...."

Shade

User Image

The creature snarled as Tristan rammed a blade into its gaping jaws. There was a loud howl that shattered what remained of the window as the beast tore away from Tristan and shook its head as if to dislodge the wound. It 'bled' a black mist as it clawed at its mouth.

Half an answer is hardly my bane... the voice chuckled over the Shade's screams, ...only partial victory will you gain. Remember, regret, resign... for misery this day comes in nines.

The Shade slashed and snapped at anything that moved. Pain was blocking its senses driving it out of the shadows and into the sunlight. Long claws took a swipe at the two men before it massive head turned and stared at Mordred.

The stare of a dying Shade was said to be a terrible thing. Every dark thought, every dark deed reached out towards the victim's heart. A single touch was all that was needed, a single drop of concentrated darkness, and the heart would be cannibalized from the inside out. Such corruption was never deadly, in fact it worked in the opposite manner.

Long ago when Shades were plentiful in the world it was common knowledge. You simply did not look a dying Shade in the eyes, or you would become one yourself.

Blackened memories of hunger and prey poured out along with the hemorrhaging black mist. It sought Mordred's eyes reaching out intangibly towards the gray heart behind the startling blue gaze.

User Image

Getting his footing as the Shade swiped blindly, he put a hand on Rumple's shoulder for balance and then blinked as he looked up at made the mistake of making eye-contact with the creature. He stared intently at it, licking his lips. He wasn't typically one for get 'nervous', but this was deep magick they were dealing with. More than he himself had ever faced, short of his spars with his family. And still in his child form, he was afterall, stuck with childish thoughts....and he was afraid. "....the riddle....the answer......."

His heartbeat grew shallow and it seemed as if the rest of the room just sort of faded away into nothingness. Like he has just walked down a long tunnel, leaving it all far behind him...and ahead there was only fog and darkness. He shook his head lightly, trying to snap out of it, but he couldn't break the eye-contact. Unseen tendrils of dark energy, invisible to the naked eye, were reaching through him, snaking their way towards his heart. "....i-is..n-night......I.....kn-know......w-who you are...."

The vibrant blue of his eyes dimmed, darkened and began to redden, and a cruel, awkward smile curved across his face. He could hear them all over again...the sounds of his victims he'd felled in battle, the choking gurgles of the men he'd bested as they quite literally drowned on their own blood... "....N-......Nnnnn...." ....the terrified screams of the women the children that broke the night air over the crackling fires his small army had set to their villages... Music to his ears! He held up a hand towards Graham...and another towards Tristan. He would bring the remnants of the roof down stop the both of them, crush them and finish the Shade's noble work. The thought of the water running red at his feet brought a cold, airy chuckle from him....

No! That wasn't all there was! He wasn't a heartless tyrant.....his sense of 'justice' and right and wrong were way out of whack, true yes. But Mordred was not a cold-blooded murderer. He wasn't all bad. He was still capable of love, as much as he pretended otherwise. He loved his mother. He loved his Auntie Mab, he loved all his fae kin alike, they were part of him, and he of them! It was just enough of a reminder in the blackness to snap him out of his haze. One of the tendrils raked across his heart and Mordred blinked then, shaking the red tone from his eyes until they returned to their unnaturally blue color.
"NO!"

He severed the Shade's connection to him then, a rush of white magic erupting from his chest and forcing those tendrils up and out of him. Not unlike the very same magic that Emma used once to repel Cora. It was instinctive, uncontrolled. He collapsed from the stool then, vaguely aware of his uncle catching him before he splashed into the water and his eyes rolled into his head. It had taken everything he had to summon up his emotions enough to repel the Shade. The poor kid was spent.

~*~Aria~*~

Do you think I'm beautiful?

User ImageMorgan was shoved out of the diner when the shades arrived. She much preferred to go by Morgan, Aria had never set right with her even for as long as she had it but that was mostly how she was known to others. There hadn'tbeen a chance to really see Mordred and how he'd changed, or not, but the affection was nice. Innately she figured it was Mab's doing to have them separated during the curse.

She was not a fighter. Morgan didn't even know how to perform magic. In fact, her only purpose had been as a tool in Mab's plans to bring down her goody two shoes brother. Now he was lost. If she'd ever met Arthur in this land she didn't recall it. Perhaps he didn't even remember himself. Things were coming back to her, but fuzzy.

She turned around to leave, try to find safety, and her eye seemed to meet another pair of very familiar orbs. She stopped dead in her tracks, unable to pull her gaze away now that he had it. A heartbeat, maybe two, no breath left in her lungs.

"Frick."

There was no haze around that name, or the face behind it. She ran to the gnome and threw her arms around him. His was the one face she'd been wanting to see, the one person she waited at the diner to catch. Neither of them had ever had much courage to actually speak to one another before now but she knew, always knew, he was important.

Poor Daniel was ignored in their reunion.

"What's happening?"

Mag Daniels
Queen Mab

User ImageIt didn't take Mab long to figure out where Frick was and how to get to him in the quickest way possible. It was a pain in the a** and she resented having to do it but she needed a minion and he was the only one, at the moment, who would serve. Soon he would be unnecessary but for now his usefulness outweighed the desire to harm him but only by an increasingly narrow margin.

"Gnomes." she lamented quietly.

She burst into the diner with little care for the chaos going on there. She saw the shade and the people behind it, scrambling. Part of it even made her smile. She would have turned and left them to their own devices but something in her made her stop and reconsider.

Mab was not, and never had been, a hero. In fact, the only person she served would ever be herself and her own continuity. But, as her brother so kindly pointed out the people of this place were just ripe for the plucking, drenched in magic and eager to believe in something they considered good. If saving them from this miserable shadow of a person would help in that endeavor so be it. Her bottom line was the only one she was really concerned about.

Shadows were tricky things. They did not like the light but light meant different things to many different people. To some it was emotional light, love. To others it was actual light like fire or sunshine. True she was not at full strength but she was almost used to that by now.

Then she recognized the face of the person the shade was trying to consume.

"PUT HIM DOWN."

For as quiet as her voice could be at the moment it boomed. Not that he needed help, escaping on his own. She was proud of him for that and walked into the place without fear and knowing with certainty that she was needed. Without thinking she made a choice and bathed the shade in light, a million pinpricks of it amplified by her magic coming from each side. It was really only a trick, taking the sun behind her and the fluorescent lights overhead and magnifying them to form something as bright as lightning all around the shade.

Sheriff Graham

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
As the quills of the beast shot out at the heroes, Graham immediately took to the defensive position to avoid the darts. He dropped to one knee, turned his face away from the attack, tried as best he could to cover his vitals, and braced for a horrible impact. But it never happened. A magic shield made of pure light enveloped him. When the quills hit the barrier they were instantaneously neutralized and faded away into the light, like magic. Graham was eternally grateful to Mr. Gold for protecting him. He would have thanked him right then and there but there was the whole shade situation to deal with first.

Suddenly there was light emanating from everywhere. At first it was blinding but then it was truly beautiful once Graham’s eyes adjusted to its intensity.

Graham, still holding on to the meat cleaver, then noticed that when the quills were expelled they left the neck of the shade vulnerable to attack. He was done with the riddles and figuring out impossible questions about a life he never knew. With the light still around him, Graham moved in close to the shade in order to get a good shot. When the shade was distracted by the light Graham took his blade, raised it high above his head, and then brought it down with all the force he could muster, slamming the sharp blade into the creature’s neck in between the remaining quills. The muscles in his arms rippled as metal met flesh. Because the creature was thrashing about so much Graham did a full back bend, as low to the ground as he could, in order to barely avoid a stray swipe of the shade’s claw. After recovering from this, he yanked the blade out and proceeded to jam it even deeper into the shade’s flesh by making another cut in the same gash, his eyes filled with righteous fury and determination.
“You will not hurt anyone else anymore!” He exclaimed as he mutilated the dying shade. With any luck, Graham’s blows would have severed major arteries and the creature would die, however in the past Graham dealt other major blows that proved futile.

The sounds of a crash and inhuman shrieking were drowned out as Morgan ran towards him. Surely it was fear what drove her into his arms. Nevertheless, he instinctively wrapped his arms around her and closed his eyes. Her scent was the same even in this world, it was somewhere between jasmine and orange blossoms...

Something clicked within his magic then and it flowed smoothly all around him once more. It was as if it had been waiting for Morgan to give it purpose. His skin glittered with magic before it seeped into his skin.

"Oh Morgan..." he whispered his finger brushing against her hair almost reverently.

His love was clever in her own way, if not a little childish. Even without her beauty, her eyes were something she'd always found to be lovely. Anger, sorrow, glee, lust... he could read them all from her gaze. He pulled just enough away to look into her eyes.

"The creature is called a Shade. I don't know who summoned it but... you're safe now," he gave her a nervous sort of smile, very conscious of how unattractive his appearance might be to her. "I'll keep you safe."

Kyla had kept her eyes on Cora, studying the power that she had just unleashed. Soon she would get the chance to call the rest of the beasts. Oh, that would be exciting. But why was she finding it exciting? It didn't matter, after all she didn't have a heart to care about anyone.

They were getting close to defeating the first beast. Oh, but that would be dull. It was time. Time to call the rest of them. Closing her eyes for a second to think about how to do so, before she repeated Cora's movements in order to summon the creatures to this world. Crossing from worlds was never an easy trip, but it did not seem to bother the Shades as they entered Storybrooke.

Oh, the choas, it was beautiful. And it was only going to get worse as the newest nine started towards the town. "Do you think they will be able to stop all of them?" she asked turning to Cora. It didn't seem to be possible, but who knew with the magic in town?
