Miss Megan Gwynn Never Again is totes the Tarantino episode, amirite? It was supposta' be, yeah; but it very much so is - even without credited/his direct involvement. It feels and looks Tarantinoy.

The Post-Modern Prometheus
This episode is almost too awesome for life. I know plenty of people dislike it because it is also almost too WTF for life as well; what with the Great Mutato, the over stylization, the black and white, and the Federal Agents ignoring cases of rape in favor of dancing at a Cher concert – I can see the dislike, really I can. But I think all that is misplaced. Firstly, this isn't the "real" Mulder and Scully on a strictly "real" case. This is a comic book story written by a kid in the Midwest who, for all we know, only knows Mulder and Scully from a mention on the Jerry Springer show. Or maybe the Agents did come to his home town to investigate and this is a version of that. Or maybe it is entirely made up entirely for the entire sake of telling this story; so the out of place strangeness should not be that worrying.
Secondly; This is The X-Files strongest and longest lasting legacy in full force! This is the beauty and power and WTFery that this show's special brand of episodic-serial storytelling can allow! This is a entirely, and I do mean ENTIRELY, stand alone episode inside a show where the fanbase became famous for their obsessive and analytical viewings of in-show mythology; for their slaving over continuous plots and themes. That is just bizarre, dudes. Bizarre and wonderful. And pretty damn impressive. I have yet to see another show (completely) stop their overarching story for the sake of doing a one-shot. I can't tell if other shows have no interest, see no merit, or don't have the ability in such a creative exercise. And I don't even really have to drive home my point as, of course, the two parter episodes that follows “Prometheus” is anything but stand alone...

A Christmas Carol and Emily
I'm a big fan of these episodes; and is it odd to say a decent chunk of the admiration is due to the pacing? I like the pacing of them. There are no large swells of music, or action, the editing is consistent and subtle, everything is very natural and calm. Which is kind of interesting for a such a highly emotional mytharc two parter. And I think a bit of that is due to mah boy Shiban bringing his style to the mytharc table. I think he kept the dialogue from getting too "Truth trutiness" and "These men who affront us!" that CC and Gilligan love to soap box.
Totally not related but I so owned the sweater Emily wears when Scully gives her her necklace. Which kind of weirded me out at the time because I didn't know The Gap made that same sweater for tinychildrens. I don't know why but it did. And still kind of does. WTF is wrooooooooooooooong with meeeeeeeeee?!

I always want to really like this episode, and then every time I kinda just go "meh”.

God help me, but I do enjoy this episode. It is very Stephen Kingy, yes (which makes sense as he wrote the ******** thing); but still very enjoyable in a fun, wtflol, kind of way. Killer dolls, goofy phone calls, and the Hokey Pokey on loop can sum up this episode pretty well. Which interestingly enough makes up the reasons why I like it and why I like it in-spite of its self...
There is also, of course, the first instance of Mulder's pencil flinging habit. The basement office's recreation at the Smithsonian has the pencils sticking from the ceiling! So this episode is important, oooooooooooobviously. ;D

I tend to watch three at a time when I do watch, I've just got a list of things to watch and rotate what I watch each day and since I've seen XF before, it tends to get the back burner.

Kill Switch
OK, I can subjectivity say that this episode is not overly amazing and I've heard a lot of people say it is a pretty middle of the road, but I'm not a fan who things that way - I flippin' love this episode! I love the feel of it; I love how for just an hour TXF suddenly becomes a totally different type of sci-fi show; I love Ester; I love kung-fu-pretend-Scully; I love the strange little robot that evidently must be shot five times even though it wasn't remotely threatening – I just love the episode all around. This episode was written by the wonderful William Gibson (AKA “The prophet of cyperpunk”) and his good friend Tom Maddox, so the different tone of the episode is really very normal for their type of writing. I've always found it very interesting, and really greatful, that all these different types of writers approached the 1013 crew about doing a episode throughout the seasons. It is just nifty.
