Brat. Feverfew isn't for smelling its for eating. What else do you need for the pillows? I could get buckwheat hulls to use as filler for eye pillows and heat-packs, if you want.

A nap is what works best for my husband. The scent of hops or valerian tea can help you get to sleep. (tho make sure valerian doesn't have any counterindications against anything else you're taking)

My friend angelic makes tea out of fresh basil,

you can also use dried basil, but i guess it doesnt work as well.

a suggestion to let it steap for 5-10minutes drink the tea until the problem goes away

taking pain killers i find just makes the pain 10 times worse the next time i have a headache

So far the best thing I've found is the fever-few under my lip. I personally prefer my upper lip (So I don't taste it) but either place is fine. ^^

You don't sound like an idiot at all. ^_^ That's why we're here, to answer questions like this.

Lets see, feverfew. It's a member of the crysanthemum family, and the August 8, 2005 Herb of the Week.

HotW, 8/8/05
Feverfew is one of a handful of medicinal plants to be thoroughly scientifically investigatedIn 1978 several British newspapers carried the story of a woman who had cured her severe migrane headaches with feverfew leaves. In a subsequent clinical study, seven out of ten patients taking feverfew claimed that their migraine attacks were less frequent or less painful, or both. IN about one in three patients, there were no further attacks. Further clinical studies have revealed that the plant can have other medicinal benefits, apparently allaying nausea and vomiting, relieving the inflammation and pain of arthritis, promoting restful sleep, improving digestion, and relieving asthma attacks. Researchers believe that sesquiterpene lactones in the plant may inhibit protaglandins and histamine released during the inflammatory process, so prefenting spasms of blood vessels in the head that trigger migraine attacks. [Kii's Note: I think that means that it stops certain chemicals from triggering attacks.] Over half the feverfew users involved in clinical studies reported pleasant side effects. Some said that feverfew heldped their depression. This is in line with traditional use. Culpeper wrote that feverfew in wine might help those "troubled with melancholy and heaviness or sadness of spirits."

It's side effects are that it tastes like crap, and if you overuse it, it can cause mouth blisters- but it only takes about fifteen minutes to work- and if you get migraines, you know how fast that is. sweatdrop

My mother has used peppermint for many years, and not just for migranes but for her stomach problems aswell. Peppermint has an antispasmotic quality which can be soothing to many different "attack" style ailments.

She uses a single drop of the oil in warm water and takes a few deep breaths before downing it. It is very powerful and you can feel it working right away.

I'm confused... you find it hard to read because you have a migrane, or you find it hard to read and so have trouble finding things out about migraines?

Be careful, there. Sometimes, that's true. But sometimes, as with me for instance, caffiene will make it a thousand times worse.

Actually, I don't think that migraines can be assuaged by herbal means.
You see, migraines are caused by over pressured blood veins in the head. Asprin and other blood thinners work okay, but no organic herb that I know of can be used as a blood thinner.
