Maura Rune Hey I have a month long dieat that cleans the toxins from your body slowly so it is not a shock to the system. It takes 28 days. The last three days you are just drinking water with Honey. Let me see if I can get it and post it here. We use it for special stuff in the coven. That sounds pretty cool. Maybe a few months after I have my kid I'll try a diet type thing. At the moment since I've only gained like 8lbs and I'm half way done I'm going to hold off on denying myself food. I think I'm doing good. Of course, I eat mostly yogurt, fruit, cereal, milk, cheese, juice, and um... pasta mixed with veggies sometimes and food from a restuarant about once or twice weekly. And I like granola bars too. I think I'm probably not getting enough protein if anything, mostly because I hate cooking it. If anyone has any dietary suggestions feel free...

(I use the term religious 'cause I don't know what else to call it. XP) I'm a devout Christian (No debate, of course) and I don't want to use a "religious" ceremony.

It is used to cleanse the body. The last three days thing is to clear the mind. BUt it can be adjusted for anything. It was developed for people who have liver problems, a way to let the body adjust instead of shocking it by fasting then slowly adding stuff back in. By cutting out things one at a time you give the body time to adjust and you don't feel like crap about it.
We use it for religious stuff but only because it has been proven to cleanse the body totally without sending it into shock.

Kyoki Marie I'm in need of some suggestions for a total cleanse. My body is full of toxins at the moment, which I can say from a medical standpoint. Being not so well off, we're sort of poor-folk mad d and a lot of what we eat isn't too good for us. A lot of carbs via ramen and pasta, both of which are cheap. Protien is in short supply and usually gotten from milks, and fresh fruits and veggies are nil. What I'm looking into is a fast for a few days, probably three- pure water only. After that, I'm looking for a cleansing tea that I can drink twice a day (or thereabouts) to keep things fairly clean and maybe keep me a little healthier. Any suggestions? first off, what sort of toxins ? Chlorella is great to remove heavy metals from your body - such as those used in toothpaste & hair dye. if it's yeast etc that you're trying to remove, eliminating grapes, oranges yogurt & all sources of sugar in any form from your diet for 3 weeks will help. ( yeast lives on sugar) A good, cheap source of protien is eggs , or lentils ( millions of people in India live off of lentils as their only source of protien - think lentil soup) fruit is over-rated and high in sugars, if you can get your vitamins from veggies like a raw carrot or some beans here & there it's less expensive and just as good in most cases. you can even get vitamin c from things like broccoli & peppers instead of fruit. Also, too much peppermint tea may interfere with iron absorption and is therefore not recommended for anyone with low iron or iron absorption problems or who may need extra ( like pregnant people ) even though it's great for naseua. ( ginger is better and cleanses the colon )

XD No, we're mostly a high-carb, high-salt family right now- believe it or not, we can't afford fresh fruits, veggies, or even afford meat on a regular basis. There's a lot of ramen, pasta (mac and cheese) and whatever I get from work, which is high in sugar usually (pastries left over from events). So I'm just trying to find something that will help... ease the imbalance.

the peppermint (I swear it's a cure all) ant green tea should be all you need. just a week on plain fruits and veggies will help.. one day just drink water.. that'll do it. After that be sure to eat lots of wholesome foods, dont cut out meat after your detox either.. There's a good detox tincture at good earth too

Just a fruit and veggie diet is a great detoxifier, with lots of water but no full blown fasting.
Goldenseal I would get with caution. The wild plants are endangered and the cultivated ones are expensive.

Also, never fast if you are pregnant !! Never. Veggies are a must. If you can't afford fresh, how about frozen... the best nutrition would come from frozen broccoli or spinach. Forget about frozen peas or corn, the value is almost zero. If starch is your most affordable option I'd buy lentils instead of ramen ( too many chemicals & too much sodium) Lentils are really super cheap in bulk- dried not canned, and a great sourch of protien, I have lots of recipes & other ideas so if you are interested, just PM me. Also I'd choose rice over pasta. If you compare the price you'll find that in the long run, rice is cheaperand more nutritious. You can add herbs for variety. Depending on where you live many of the plants that grow wild can be eaten for veggies also. Dandilion leaves, rosehips, wild asperagus, wild berries, etc. you could also check store discount areas for marked down produce.

Hehe, it was me that's pregnant. Don't worry. I get plenty of fruit though not so many veggies. Fruit is easier to snack on because I can't stand raw veggies. I'm a big snacker Carnation instant breakfast drinks are yummy too. I don't know if I could ever fast. Not eating gives me headaches.

I read through that whole thread (wooo, 2 pages, lol) and I was hoping MauraRune would post that 28 day fast...Ah well. So basically to fast safely, do it over the course of a week, eat only fruits and veggies and drink only juice and/or water. Take one day somewhere in the middle, take a day and drink only water. Am I right?

And always always drink lots of water during a fast.

Cleansings are a myth. No herb or fasting will "cleanse" your body in a few days. Nothing will do that. The way they work is to stress out your body a few days and make you feel like your "doing" something. But just because you feel bad doesn't mean you're "cleansing" your body. (in fact that seems pretty counterintuitive to me) It's simply a placebo effect.
If you fast for a few days and go back to an unhealthy diet, your body will be no better off than before.
The best thing is to simply switch to a better diet. Eat lots of veggies, fruits, water, and fiber. At least a third of your diet should be fruits and veggies without added fat or sugar. Minimize saturated and trans fats and sugars. The toxic state of your body reduces because of this sort of diet, slowly over time, NOT because of any "cleansing" or fasting that you do to start it.
And believe me it's a lot more pleasant this way.

That's a very good point; doing a cleanse but not changing what caused the problem in the first place probably isn't a very good idea. However, I think that a cleanse to start the process is a good idea. Think of it as a cleanse then rebirth, a dedication to a healthier way of living.

However, I think that a cleanse to start the process is a good idea. Think of it as a cleanse then rebirth, a dedication to a healthier way of living. A cleanse is also a good way to break habits that dominate your life- sugar, caffiene, and other not-healthy things can be addictive. During a fast, (which, by the way, doesn't mean not eating anything, neccessarily- just eliminating certain things) your mind tells your body "Only this long" which makes it bearable. If you just say "I'm going to stop drinking soda" your cravings will skyrocket. But if you say "for two weeks, I won't drink soda", then when it gets hard, you just say "six more days.... five more days..." and you can cope. And then, at the end of two weeks (or a month, or six months, or however long), you realize that you don't -really- crave soda anymore. Or sugar, or whatever you cut out.
Cleansing, too, is a good way to take care of removing toxins from the body, when done long-term. For instance, like Nurse Tammy said- removing heavy metals, or yeast- you can take certain things over a long period of time.
I wouldn't call cleansing a myth- it's perfectly possible. Just because it's done wrong on a regular basis doesn't make it a myth, merely a topic of confusion.
