Smirk playing over pale lips. First fingers and thumbs tapping lightly. Legs bent near to the ground. Eyes scanning through the trees and other greenery. Long moments slipped away as Nara Shikamaru crouched atop a heavy branch, waiting...looking...alert.
"Hnn...YEE-YAHHHH!"
From the depths of the trees yards behind the boy leapt a creature of lionlike proportions, and teeth probably just as sharp.
Kiba really should leash that mutt someday, Shikamaru complained within his thoughts. And soon, too.
After the slight embarrassment of being knocked from his branch, the boy recovered and shooed the dog off. "Akamaru, get. Go back to Kiba." After the dog ran off, Shikamaru rubbed the stubborn bits of dirt from his sleeves and rolled his eyes, slouched and wandered off to find Chouji.
As expected, Chouji was sitting on his lazy butt and licking bits of peanutbutter from his nails while watching some other ninjas practice-fight. Shikamaru trudged up and looked down his nose at his pudgy friend. After a moment, Chouji blinked and glanced up warily.
"Huh? Ohh. Shikamaru. It's you." But rather than bother with another sentence, Chouji took another load of peanutbutter pretzels down his throat. Shikamaru just nodded and sat with an acknowledging, "Hnn."

"D-don't be silly!" cried Sakura, shaking her head. "You can't just...just give up on a mission...I mean, well..." Her voice quieted. She then giggled. "Well, if you don't have to go anywhere, we should hang out!"

Sakura beamed at her friend, before grabbing Ino's hand. "You know what we should do!?" she said excitedly. "We should go to the park. Parks are always fun, right! And it's such a beautiful day..." Sakura's voice quieted and her expression turned meek. "S-sorry...That sounds kinda stupid...."

Sakura sighed with relief, grinning again. "I'm glad." she said. "Well then, come on!" she said, gently tugging on Ino's hand before heading in the direction of the park.

About five minutes later, they had reached the park. Sakura let go on Ino's hand and plopped down on the grass, spreading her legs. "Ahh...The sun feels good." she commented, closing her eyes and smiling.
