Well I Won't Argue With You Guys, Because I Encourage Opinions. I Have Been Addicted To WoW, I Wont Lie. I Didn't Eat, Sleep, Or Use The Bathroom For I Think 14 Hours. But That Was When I First Started Playing. I've Been Playing Since March, I'm Level 44 Now, And I Don't Play Anywhere Near 30 Hours A Week. Maybe 12 Hours. I Find I Level Very Fast At This Pace, About 2-3 Hours A Day. And Not Even Everyday. It All Depends On How Good Of A Gamer You Are, And If You Know The Right Places To Go. But If The Game Wasn't A Great Game, Blizzard Wouldn't Be Making About 200 Million A Month Off Of Players, And Ruthless Most Of Those Players Are Casual Players, Meaning They Have Jobs, And School, Yet As A Pastime They Play WoW.

yeah, i work, go shooting, i play xbox live but no real pc games nemore cuz they take too long, on halo 2 or GOW i can just pick up an go, ive been partying alot lately too

Wow what's with the hostility towards WoW?

It's a game, it's just as addicting and time consuming as any other game you can play. IE just as much as you let it be.

Of the members of this guild I would say I'm the heftiest WoW player. I'm not sure of how many hours a week I play, but I definitely shower, I eat, I ignore the game for more important things etc etc. Anything fun is 'addictive'. If you have trouble stopping whatever activity you are participating in it has some addictive nature about it.

I do say that the "30 hours a week" to be succesful is excessive. To be in a top end raiding guild, yes you have to put in a lot of work. But to be 'succesful' can mean a number of things in a game that large and diverse. There is one player who does nothing but play the Auction House on my server. In fact I doubt that he has gotten any characters to max level ever. But he plays the market just like people do here on Gaia. There are also top PvPers who only spend a few hours a week playing, but they are great at what they do. To "addequatly play the game" you only have to log in as much as you want to. It contains everything from casual players to hardcore raiders.

I may play quite a bit, but then again what else am I to do in the evenings? I already go out with friends, Television is worse for your brain than any video game, and I read like a maniac.

And you say moderation does not exist in addiction? Dictionary.com defines addiction as "The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or or involved in something." This means that moderation can exist in addiction. One can have an inability to quit, and yet still moderate how much they play. I like to play because I have friends there, some of my friends here play, and it is genuinely fun for me. Thus I couldn't bring myself to quit. And yet here I sit on Gaia (worse in some ways than any MMORPG) posting this because I didn't feel like playing the game right now.

i really have no hostility towards the game whatsoever, i just thought that scarlet had some valid points based on what I read, ive played the game, a friend bought it for me when it first came out, and it was a damn fun game, im just not in favor of pay to play for the most part, i mean i paid 50 bucks for a yearly subscription to xbox live, but even in paying that so far online i have enjoyed Tony Hawk Project 8, Gears Of War, Crackdown, Saints Row, Halo 2, Halo 3 (The temporary online beta, it was effin wicked), Perfect Dark Zero, GRAW, Splinter Cell Double Agent, and a number of online arcade games that xbox live has to offer... i myself just wouldnt pay to play one game, when i can pay a small fee and get a number of games, and i really wouldnt play it as often as i did, but alot of times after me an my friends go out, we need a place to hide out (there are alot of fights and drama out here), so we come to my place and alot of the games i mentioned have multiplayer compatablities from my actual xbox to live, you can play up to 4 players on one xbox for halo 2, thats a whole team unless your playing BTB (big team battle)

Ah but each of those games cost money to buy, you do have to factor that in. I understand not liking the monthly fee, if you don't play the game over a certain amount it is not worth it. However, for those of us who do play over that amount and don't like to buy new games all the time it is ideal.

I DO have hostility towards the game and I don't really give a damn either. It is one of my banes. It has taken friends away from me, it has taken a boyfriend away from me, and I'm sick of it. I recently lost yet another friend to the damn game.

I say ******** WoW.

this is true, but all these games have trade-in value as well as being able to trade them back and forth with friends, i just get tired of playing one game over n over

I Agree 100% With Huffon. We WoW'ed Together One Evening, And It Was A Damn Good Time If You Ask Me.
I Have 3 Characters On My Regular Realm Tanaris.

Sterress- My Main Character, Hunter.
Battlesque- A Level 19 Rogue Twink, With The Best Armor And Weapons You Can Get At That Level, And All I Do Is Play Battle Grounds With That One.
Fewture- A Priest, Whom I Go Into Raids And Instance Runs With, And Send All The Good Items To My Main.

There Are Endless Possibilities To What You Do With Your Characters, I have To Admit, The Battle To 70 Is Addictive, But Fun.

And Like Huffon I Do Many Other Things, I Read, I Draw, I Go Out With Friends, I Cook.

See Scarlet, You Say You Lost Friends, You're A Great Person, Really Great, So Have You Ever Wondered WHAT The Game Is Like, Since It Did Take Them From A Person Like You? It Must Be One Hell Of A Game, Don't You Agree?
And They Aren't That Far Away, Just Frolicking With The Little Creatures Of Azeroth. Why Don't You Sign Up For A Free 10 Day Trial Or Something? Get A Taste Of It. Play Online With Friends. You Never Know.

So you're saying that a game is better than I am.
Basically condoning their actions and insulting me as well.

...
I said ******** WoW.
I'm not going to play it, ever.

i didnt think thats what she was saying at all... you have alot of hate and animosity over this game... it seems like you let it affect your judgement just as much as they do, but moreso in making it out to be almost an entity of evil instead of just a game...

Technically I could get quite a few bucks for my character should I ever wish to just stop playing.

And to scarlet: I hate to say it, and I'm really not trying to be mean...but that sounds like a failing in those people rather than the game. The game is made to be fun, but like all things even fun things it must come second to other things in life. Those things include friends and loved ones. The problems arise when one cannot remember that friends and loved ones are more important than games.

that intrigues me, i dont doubt you in the slightest, but would you actually trade your char in to blizzard itself, or other players?

That Wasn't What I Was Saying And You Know It -_- You Have To Stop Acting Like The Game Stole People From You, People Left On Their Own Choice, The Game Didn't Grab Them And Steal Them.
But Whatever You Want To Think Is Your Own Decision. I Didn't Try To Hurt You, But When You Switch Words Around And Make Me Sound Like An a**, Which I Wasn't Trying To Be, Your Hurting Yourself.

On Ebay, Go Check It Out, There's People That Sell Their Level 70 Characters For At LEAST 900 Dollars. That's Amazing.

They tried it on their own, and got addicted, probably just trying the simple stupid trial crap.
The addiction is what steals people away.
It is caused by the game.
That makes it, in part, the game.
They have not the will or self control to keep it from doing so.

If they get addicted to a game to that extent then be glad it was the game that got them. They could have tried one of the more more dangerous drugs or become an alcoholic given their apparently addictive personalities.
