hi I'm Felicia. I'm 16 and was diagnosed when I was six with type 1 diabetes. I was drinking alot of water and i was very underweight [and i still am] so my parents took me to a doctor and she said i may have diabetes and i did. I'm on a pump.I go to a diabetic camp during the summer and two of the girls at my school are diabetic. I'm very active and love sports. I don't think diabetes makes me different, just special really. Sure I have to eat sometimes when i'm low or give a bolus when I'm high. Just remember that diabetes could be worse, at least you have something that can be taken care of. No there's not a cure yet. I want to share a quote with you, 'Life only hands you what it thinks you can handle' Thx for reading, Felicia heart

Hi everyone. I actually haven't been diagnosed with diabetes but it runs in my family and based on what everyone's told me to look for as far as symptoms I've been noticing a lot lately, so I think I might have it. But I'm really scared to go get tested. (because I'm afraid of needles and therefore blood work, i'm really not afraid for the results tho.)

XOXO, shannon
STAY STRONG!!!

Hi, im Andrew (call me Andy) im 36 yrs of age, My family on both my parents side have had either type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
Basicly since i was 8 or 9 i would get dizzy spells and fall asleep but when tested it came back negative. Wasnt till a few years back when i was consuming large volumes of water that i knew that it might have gotten worse, then i went and got tested, I was on metformin for about a yr but recently told my doctor i was disatisfied with it as i was very tired, and grumpy all the time and my muscles ached, some tests were run and they found out i was allergic to metformin.
I now use diamicron 80mg (gliclazide) to control diabetes and karvea 300's for high blood pressure. All the pain and sore muscles and grumpyness is all gone and i can walk around again.

Hi everyone!
My name is Carrie and I was diagnosed with Type one diabetes 7 years ago. They found it when I went in for a sports physical because I had to symptoms of frequent peeing and always being thristy. Also, I had dropped about 70 pounds over a five month period. I am now finishing my senior year in high school, I will be eighteen in one week, and getting ready for college. I just got a pump about six months ago, and it is a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I love it, other times I don't. I also go to a diabetes camp (Camp Stix... if you live in Norther Idaho, Montana, or Washington, check it out!) and it is a lot of fun. This will be my 6th year at camp, and my third as a volunteer.
I am really glad to find this guild because there is no one in my area with diabetes! Hope to get to know some of you better.

Hi, my name's Alexis, and I was really lucky.
Unlike you guys, I didn't find out I had diabetes by drinking alot, getting dizzy, etc.
I have a family friend, and he has type 1 diabetes (he's about 50). He did a check on me and I was quite high (about 30). Fortunately, his wife's a nurse and she told me to go to the doctors.
Well, they did a blood test and it turned out positive! I was really unhappy because I had to stay in the hospital all school holidays (2 weeks), and that had to be the one time when my relatives were over from England! cry
They had to come visit me in the hospital and we played board games and stuff.
Now, I've had diabetes for about 6 years (I'm 13), and I guess I'm not doing too bad!
Yeah, I agree. I don't know anyone with diabetes who lives near me or is even a friend! I think this is a great guild.

Hi, I was diagnosed type 1 28 days ago. No one in my family is diabetic (except for maybe a great-great grandmother who was probably type 2) so while I had textbook symptoms (drinking all the time, peeing all the time, shortness of breath, etc) we hadn't read the textbook and thought all I had was a sore throat and general achiness...a cold.
On Wed the 23, I threw up in the morning and didn't eat anything until some sugar jello at dinner time. That night I had a hard time getting to sleep because my heart was racing (another symptom) and I kept having nightmares of dead bodies (I blame that on CSI...or maybe Bones) and having a drink of water and getting up to go to the bathroom. My bed was hot, so I went out in the living room to sleep on the couch. Same story. The last thing I remember is sitting in the kitchen and thinking about getting a cold glass of water from the fridge.
My brother woke up early. He didn't see me at first--I was passed out on the kitchen floor with the cup at my waist and my arms above my head. Mom says she thinks I must have put the cup down, and lay down under my own power. The paramedics rushed me to the hospital. Mom got there about five minutes later and they had already diagnosed diabetes.
My sugar was at 693 (too high for the ER glucose moniters) and my temperature was at 93 (from the floor), and the doctor told Mom I'm lucky to be alive. More than he knew, because if I had been in bed, I'm not sure anyone would have noticed I was out until it was too late.
I was in the ICU for 5 days while they worked to stabilize me. They wouldn't give me anything to drink because I just threw it back up. My mouth was so dry though, I finally asked for a cup with water and a basin so I could spit it back out. They finally let me out and onto the floor for three days while I learned to draw and inject and to take my sugar and they gave me a diet and everything.
I've been home for 2 weeks today. It's wierd. I mean, I feel like a pincushion and everyone keeps on asking how I am and stuff. Mom is being really overprotective at this point. She'll get over it soon. My sugars are more stable, which is also good.

Hi, I'm Erin. I'm 21 (will be 22 in Oct!) I'm not diabetic, but I'm hypoglycemic. Um it's a family thing for me and I guess mine just started to kick in in the past year or 2.
I'm going in for another test, because they do the same test for hypoglycemia that they do for diabetes, hopefully it will be what I'm used to feeling and they will get me going on ways to make everything all nice and good.
As far as I know there is no medication for hypo, it's just diet.

Hi! My name is Brandi. I had a sugar test done a little while back and never got the results back until 3 days a ago and they told me that I was borderline diabetic. I went 3 days ago to the doctor feeling really really sick; bad headaches, sleepy all the time, sick to my stomach all the time not being able to eat, drinking alot. I'm starting to think I might be diabetic now. Its been months sense I had that test done.

If you think you might be, then go to the doctor, the longer you wait and prolong seeing him? the more damage could very well be done. I would look for these symptoms: Extreme thirst Using the Bathroom alot Sleeping alot, but still feeling tired weakness in joints headache blurry vision Vomitting If you think you have it, go see a doctor and get better! =]

hi! my name is hoshi and i'm 27 years old. ^_^ i was diagnosed with type 1 a little over two years ago.
i'll be honest, i had the symptoms, but i didn't think it was possible for me to have any form of diabetes. i didn't think i could have type 1 since i wasn't a kid anymore, and i didn't think i could have type 2 since i wasn't overweight. oh, and there is NO diabetes in my family history. i got lucky. rolleyes
it's amazing how much you learn about a disease once you have it. ^_^ all of my preconceptions were totally wrong. but anywho..
i'm on daily injections, usually around 5 shots a day. (it depends on how often i eat.) that first shot was the hardest.. but it's much better now. most of the time i don't even think about it.
still, i'm glad to have found this guild. ^_^ there aren't too many people you can gripe about diabetes with, other than diabetics.

Hellooo! I am Briann (pronounced like Breanne) and I was dianosed 9 months ago with type 1 Diabeties. My father had it and my sister has it, so I was pretty educated when I was dianosed, in fact, I didnt have to say in the hospital overnight. But I did have to go see the dietician the next day. It was sort of hard for me because my father died at the age of 34 (I was 10 at the time) from his diabeties. But he didn't take care of himself, he did a lot of drugs, and he was blind and had a bunch of other health issues.
It is also hard for me because I have a condition called Ataxic Cerebral Palsy because of complications during childbirth. It affects my fine motor skills and speech. So my mother has to give me me shots (IT SUCKS!).

My name is Kathy, I'm 18, and I'm a type one diabetic. I was diagnosed when I was 11, after showing the majority of the signs for about a month. I kept going to my doctor and complaining about how ill I felt, and my doctor told my parents I was basically faking it. The day after Christmas my dad carried me into the hospital because I was too weak to walk, and I lost about thirty pounds and was severely dehydrated. I was informed through my sister that I was a diabetic and she told me it was a form of cancer. -_-; Anyway, I ended up in a diabetic coma for about a week.
Since then, I've been on shots because I refuse to get a pump. I'm on the lantus and novolog pen systems.
