Yay for introductions! heart 3nodding
I'm the newest member here, I suppose, so hello to all my fellow members here! smile I'm really happy to be initiated as a Mentor in this guild aside from being a poet/writer. Just so you know, I'm a prolific writer, and I love writing!
Let's see, about me... My internet alias is ambiguitylotus, or Lotus (Girl). I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and 2 minors in philosophy and creative writing. My specialty is in poetry. I'm currently attending another university to pursue further studies in psychology/neuroscience and probably med school. I'm such a nerd, I know (people have told me this), but I don't care. I really enjoy it, so that's what matters.
I've been writing for years. I don't remember how long--maybe when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade? Anyway, I started out as an artist--you know, painting, drawing, sketching, etc., but then I was attracted to the lyricism of words and sounds. So when you read my works, you'll notice a lot of imagery, sounds, and colors. My recent portfolio I'm most proud of is my cultural approach to poetry, which I'm going to go and work on some more because it's been like a "Eureka!" experience for me so far, because my poetry class and my critical/honest professor loved the portfolio! So I'm glad I've matured in my poetry! I was afraid of the "emo and angst" side of me coming out when I took this class since I've been through 4-5 years of writer's block. It was painful for me, because I loved writing, but I wasn't able to write! cry
Anyway, I'll end here before I end up writing a novel! mrgreen I'll be looking forward to meeting you all and working with you! smile

I really enjoy it, so that's what matters. It's nice to meet you, fellow philosopher and writer!
I started off college majoring in art, but felt that the bureaucracy of the "art world" was too much BS (plus...Im not exactly the best artist sweatdrop ), and when I took a philosophy class, I fell in love with it. I'm a thinker by nature, so it was a perfect match. (Though...I consider myself to be a "metaphysics and social" philosopher....I wish I had done more with sociology.) I am, however, minoring in art.
My school has an english program, of course, but it really doesnt have a creative writing program. I learned about three years in that they do in fact have a sub focus in it, but really, they only offer two classes. No questions asked, if we had an official CW program, I'd have majored in it. But, as it were, Im happy with philosophy. As I said, CW is what I plan to get my MFA in.
Anyway, as artists and philosophers, we definitely have a unique place to come from in poetry. I always try to make my poetry reflect a sense of art and a sense of mystery and questioning, so that, like art (and philosophical notions), each person takes something new and different from the poem. Although I do like to write prose, poetry gives me an artistic medium to work with--and a great place to express my philosophical views. Anyway, I look forward to seeing you on the board!

Ah, hello to you too! Yay! I've always been a thinker myself! Actually, I like to question the why's and how's to everything, so I guess psychology, philosophy, and the sciences all go together for me. smile If you're looking for a really GREAT CW program. There's one in Texas, USA. It's called University of Houston-Main Campus. It's like ranked #2 or #3 in the nation last time I checked, so it's very well-known, and there are a lot of famous writers coming from there too. If I'm not mistaken, Sandra Cisneros is one--or maybe she taught there, I forgot. lol Yes, that's why I'm so jealous of those who can do prose (fiction, non-fiction, etc.). The only prose type I come close is diary/memoir type, I guess? But yes, poetry is also my best artistic medium as well. So I'm a newbie in this guild (and it's also my first guild), can we post poems in here to be critiqued and such? I'm working as mentor/critic and poet on here. And if so, where can I post my work? I'm reading the sticky notes, but I feel like I must've missed something... Help? sweatdrop

And if so, where can I post my work? Do you have a mentor? If so, post in their poetry-help thread. If not...hrm. I suppose I could just start a general critique thread to catch anyone falling through cracks for the time being? GO LOOK FOR IT! biggrin

That way, once the mentorless prefer a certain mentor, then they can go directly to that specific mentor on the "mentors" thread. smile

Hello everyone, I V.I. Lenin, world's foremost (dead) Socialist Rebellion Leader to recreate an entire nation. On the real side, I'm a So Cal native of 17, entering senior year of high school and reg of the OP/L. I've been writing roughly five years, though only within the past three have I become more serious and satisfied with my work. I started out with some emotional spill-out that I decided sounded like a poem, posted it on here when I discovered the OP/L and almost on contact was blended to a creamy nub-puree. After a long while of hounding from the original regs, I started to listen and start actually trying. And so, I come to you at this moment in time a transformed person and I owe all my writing skill to the OP/L and therefore believe the knowledge and ability I've learned through it should be reinvested into the next-generation of poets.
In short: I hope to save poetry from a bleak outlook of pop-art status and being used to make the talentless famous and the foolish seem wise. That's all.
Good meeting you all.
