As for mosquitos, catnip oil works as well as DEET.... BUTDO NOT USE WHILE HIKING IN THE WOODS IN THE PACIFIC NW. Catnip as we all know is loved by cats. It has been proven that catnip attracts Cougars as well. And, since I am a Husky, I don't wear it out in the woods. For the backyard picnics and anywhere where you won't get eaten by a lion, it will prove to be a very good natural substitute for DEET.
