"The crops have been failing all of fall." The man grimaces. "We've survived on grain storage, but we might not make a full year. And I never asked, because it's none of my business."

"But I've been asking you a whole bunch of questions that are really none of my business." Tanni smiled slightly. " And I know nothing about this area." She looked out over the wide expanses of grassland.

"If you know nothing about this place, then what are you doing here?" the man asks.

"Well, you obviously don't know how things work around here. The 'king' controls everything around here, and the lords support them because he keeps them fat. They don't care about us villagers, and now that we have a famine, they are trying to find any food they can. They took everything from my family except the grain, but that won't last." The man wipes away a tear from his eye. "They killed my father and brother when we ran out of meat. We need help, but noone listens."
(I'd get to a fighting part, except this isn't my guy, but we're almost at the farm.)

Tanni looked out over the grasslands. She couldn't imagine why anyone would want to rule a place like this, but sometimes nobles were just like that. " So they might as well be slavers. They're just sugar-coating the whole thing by being soldiers, and nobles." She looked at the horizon. "Yep. They'll be here. I'm sure of it, now."

"A friend of mine." Tanni smiled slightly. "Well, they don't really know me. But they're pretty famous back where I came from, so It's kinda hard to not know."

As they crested the hill, Tanni caught sight of a small building, with a barn next to it. The only things wrong were that there were no animals in the grazing pens, and The fields of grain that people were toiling in were brown and dry.

The man looks over the farm, with a look of sadness in his eye. Suddenly, a small child, 3 years old, runs up shouting "Daddy! Daddy!" The man picks up the boy and hugs him. "This is my son. Adam. I also have a daughter, and two other sons." He then puts the child down, and says "Go get Grandma okay." The child runs off, and he looks at Tanni and says "She'll be in the house." He then leads the horse to the house.

Tanni felt slightly guilty. She could heal herself now, but it would be rude to simply throw off his offer for help. Well, if his mother was a good mage, she would sense Tanni's power. She would try to repay them by finding out what was killing the crops, she decided.

As they near the house, a man about 25 comes up. "Good to see you dad." he says. He then looks at Tanni. "My names Jeric. What's yours?"

"Well Tanni," the man says "You don't know my name either. I forgot about the introductions. My names Tam. My mothers name is Maria. My daughter," he points at a girl about 12 sitting at the table "Heather. And my other son is somewhere... But he's Jacob." He then calls to an old lady coming out of the back room. "This girl, Tanni, hurt her... foot? When she fell from the tree."
