With that definition I think society is reduced.
Sociology make the relation between man, society and culture. So... we're really part of a society because we're educated in a culture.
No matter if I don't fit into the stereotype of "normal" people, at least in my country, because in spite of that, i eat what in my country people eat, i speak the language in my country people speak and i have some customs that my people have.
So.. yes, I'm a part of society, and I think all of us are, at least if we have some of the identity of one country or culture.
