Hikari_no_Tenshi I like the cute ones! ...OK, let's get a few things straight. First: Kitsune cannot be genetically engineered, as there's no way a kitsune would allow itself to be subjected to that. Too powerful; the scientists trying to catch it would find themselves stuck in a powerful illusion and probably end up waking up one day in the middle of a forest completely naked. Second: Kitsune cannot be magically created. They are nature spirits, they occur naturally, and the most you can do is summon one. That's asking for trouble anyways; they're tricksters and you're likely to come out of it with significantly more problems than you bargained for. I'll get more detailed stuff up later on and sticky it, because it's obvious at this point that too many people are saying "kitsune" and meaning "fox-human hybrid" instead of "trickster shapeshifting fox spirit." well, first of all, You cannot obviously catch or creat the full fledge Kitsune, however, humans can create creat a sub Kitsune catagory of speacious, more superior to the human genes. They would of course have some simularities with the true ones, but they would not poses magical power, or the ability to change shapes.... Secondly, I am familiar to the normal kitsune, however, I have grown up with more of a foxish people, not the spiritual ones, and thus I Have overlooked the true ones.

Young kits are quite vulnerable to human predation, so if the labcoats went after one sufficiently young enough, they'd have their sample... sweatdrop Of course, then I'd be obligated to do something a might more drastic than allowing them to wake up from an illusion naked in the middle of a forrest... stressed

As far as I can tell, there's only one instance of a kitsune being captured in any story, at any age, and that was mostly because she screwed up when she was trying to seduce some guy sweatdrop

I'm not saying that getting kitsune genetic material is easy, or even wise, just that it's technically plausible. sweatdrop Besides, there are safer things to do than trying to capture young kits when older kitsune are about. Inviting vampires into your home comes to mind... stare

According to Chinese folklore, women that were too beautiful were actually kitsune demons (hu li jing) that would seduce a guy and eventually lead him to his death or something else bad. But, in a couple of legends, these "fox women" were actually caught and killed. For example, in the legend of the Monkey King, one such kitsune woman was executed. So... I think that kitsune can actually be caught by humans, magical or not. razz

I think the logic that is being debated here is not if there could possibly be such a thing as a genetically created Kitsune, or worse yet.. a magically created Kitsune.
Even if you "Summoned" a kitsune using magic, that Kitsune would already be in existence, it would just be answering your call for a Kitsune. I don't think there is a spell or type of magic that would "create" a kitsune from scratch. sweatdrop
I think what irks me and others most about this poll is that the strangest and completely uncommon types of Kitsune are thought of and listed first, and the true forms of Kitsune are lumped together in one option as if they do not matter.

I chose the "More Common Type of Kitsune". Face it, be it a curse or genetic engineering, no Kitsune is as powerful as a full-bred one. They retain the most strength because it's most likely been passed down through generations.

They retain the most strength because it's most likely been passed down through generations. Going beyond that, an older, experienced full-bred one that's earned all its tails... Very few things can face a nine-tailed kitsune and hope to win.

That's why Hikari-chan should get started on getting that information up in a sticky! ::pesters Hikari:: One thing to keep in mind for the future: If you are interested in something, research. Someone who makes an educated arguement is much more respected when voicing their ideas. biggrin

I'm ussually dealing with vixens. I just though that a fox like species should have an appropriate name, and considering that anime calls such species Kitsune, I would also do so...

The writers know what a kitsune is, and create their characters accordingly. **goes off to work on getting the stuff HTML-ed**

*purrs* I'd have to say i can't say any except the other one myself... from alot of the lore i read, considering each and everyone is so different, is that a kitsune is in fact only a spirit or apparition, a being not of this plane. Some believed it's from something that's died, some believe it came into existance like that. This is general and the opinionated facts cut but, that's why many use their kitsune 'powers' like they do
