I think i t'll take a while too. I do think that Suigetsu and Karin are cooking a relationship, first in form of hate. Then, I betcha in that one battle scene, one of the going to protect the other in a snap!

Karin: Stop being overconfident, Suigetsu!
Suigetsu: Stop telling me that, you violent b***h!
*opponent hits Karin (Yeah, I don't know who)*

If anything's going to happen to them, it'll be under the cover of fighting. It really isn't SuiKa without all the fighting. Suigetsu might even tease Karin about Sasuke once in a while.
If Suigetsu ever gets the idea to make a move on Karin, it'll be under pretext of teasing her or annoying her. I mean, really. Is there really any way that they'll ever stop getting at each other's throats, even if they DO fall in love?

But Itachi runs off someplace (which means Sasuke goes after him) (and Juugo's off killing random street people (LOL)) and Karin and Suigetsu have to team up and fight Kisame or something like that.
Lol'd.
I think eventually Karin will realize that punching him isn't making him any less of an a*****e, and so she'll give up on beating him into niceness. Eventually they'll start getting along. Then... Yeah. It'd probably take years.

Hey, at least SUIKA has a bigger possibility of happening in canon than ItaSaku. (Though, admittedly, compared to the major pairings that dominate the fandom right now, SuiKa has a very small chance of happening.)
But we don't care about that. scream Hatelove is leading up to some really good smexy watermelons.
