mike_johnson Other authoriities? I don't remember reading that in the commandment. surprised surprised neutral neutral Oh yes. If you remember, Jesus was submissive to his parents from ages 12-30 or so AND paid taxes and was submissive to Pilate's judgement. So any law which doesn't cause us to sin, should be obeyed religiously as if it was a command from God! smile

The Fifth Commandment
You shall not murder.
We should fear and love God so that we do not hurt or harm our neighbor in his body, but help and befriend him in every bodily need.

Oh good. You bring up a great point of view. So answer me this: Say you have a wife and children that you love very much. An invader is threatening their lives and unless you do something, they will die. There is a possibility you will kill the assailant, but your family will live. What do you do?

I believe not so much in absolute non-violence as in not forcing others to suffer by my morality. Therefore, if it was my life being threatened, I would either do nothing or repel them without hurting them. However, if someone else were being threatened, I would not passively force them to suffer through my non-violence. I would protect them against any assailant, to the death if need be, though thanks to the form of martial arts I take, it most likely wouldn't need be.

My point was that the Commandment is about murder and a good person can use force to a good end, like protecting life. Just because evil men use force for evil, that doesn't mean we will be evil by using force. Jesus was not a passive person. He was agressive and did not tell the Soldier to stop being a soldier. "Those who live by the sword, die by the sword" means that those who devote their lives to violence will die by the same. It does not mean that if you use a sword/gun/bat that you will die by those means.

The 6th Commandment: You Shall Not Commit Adultry
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we lead a sexually pure and decent life in all we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other.

The Eighth Commandment
You shall not give false testamony against your neighbor.
This means that we should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our neighbor, betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him and explain everything in the kindest way.
