Brychan blinked lightly in surprise at the other's words. "My Lord... surely you know he's not an ordinary wolf. He's larger and there's just something different about him. Besides.. there were two. A red wolf killed the hind and the white one stole it from her." He sighed lightly, "There were Outriders yes... but surely you know that not even the strongest Outrider stands much of a chance against a wolf. If you want to tighten security.. we should probably corral all the hinds in the middle of the valley tightly.. and surround the perimeter with Outriders and Corps on constant watch." He mentally sighed at the idea of it... long nights with little rest. But if it meant protecting his hinds and their offspring, then so be it.

Brychan knew that moving at this time would not be easy. The hinds would be giving birth soon, and the young could easily get lost or not have the strength to travel.

"Nobody ever said anything about it being anything out of the ordinary," He said angrily, although it was more anger for the wolf itself than anything. He shook his head. "If we were to corral all the hinds into the middle of the valley, we would have to come up with a good reason. And any reason good enough for them will cause them to panic. We just can't risk anything with so soon after Anlach." He scowled. he hated the difficulty that was a situation like this. At times like this, he hated being Lord of the Herd. It wasn't a very luxurious position as so many thought it was. Sure, it did have some added benefits, but those were nothing compared to all the hardships the post brought.

He stared at the scuffed ground, until finally, he said, "We have to at least keep them calm until every hind has given birth." The tremor to his voice was barely concealed. "It's almost twice as likely that a hind will die during a stampede if she is pregnant. This herd is large enough that we can afford to lose some youngsters. But we can't endanger the hinds." He turned his head away. Even with his experience and his unrivaled skill at hiding his emotions, he was finding it difficult to keep the pain behind this decision from showing through.

There was a worried sigh from the starry pelted stag as he quietly listened to Fell Lore's ideas an decision. He nodded gravely, knowing that there was little they could do in this situtation. "Very good, sir... I don't really care to see a stampede either. I just hope we don't lose any good outriders as well." Despite it all, Outriders were certainly not invincible... and they were the first line of defense for the herd. They could only do so much though. If a stubborn, foolish hind decided to linger near the outskirts... then she could easily get killed and the Outriders wouldn't be able to do anything. Like what happened in this case.

He quietly wondered when none of the Captains had informed Fell Lore of what was going on... but that was none of his business.

Fell shook his head again. "Why is this the first time I'm hearing all this?" He demanded, of no one in particular, and pawed at the ground once more, drawing deep gouges into the ground and ripping up the turf in his rage. "Is there no Captain competent enough to tell me something as simple as this before Anlach?" At that moment, he rather felt like taking his antlers and disfiguring a tree.

"We have to take care to protect the Outriders too," Fell agreed with a nod. Although he wasn't sure of anything yet, his mind was already working to form a good plan of action - a foolproof one. One that would hopefully keep them all alive.

Brychan also pawed at the earth in discontent. How could the Captain neglect to tell the Lord of such things? He would have told him right away... but Brychan wasn't a Captain. Perhaps this is why the wolves had so easily snatched their hinds... because of poor leadership. "I apologize for my comrades, sir" Brychan stated with a tone that suggested his own irritation.

The stag let out a sigh and nodded, glad that the Lord agreed that they need to make sure the loss of Outriders was minimal as well. For without them... the herd had no protection.

"Well, believe me when I saw, when I find the stag responsible for all this, they..." The Lord suddenly stopped and shook his head, shutting his eyes and opening them again as if that would erase all the worries that had been caused. He had been about to threaten one of his own Outriders! He shuddered inwardly at the thought. Rage had simply clouded his judgement. Rage and undescribable worry for his herd. It was nothing...

He sighed. "I only hope we will be able to fend off this disaster, as we have countless others. Who knows... perhaps we might get lucky again."

Brychan was slightly surprised by the angry words that started to come out of Fell Lore's mouth. The stag knowing that the Lord didn't like violence, but his anger seemed to take ahold of him just then. Until he seeemed to realize it and calmed down. Needless to say... Brychan did not envy the stag that was responcible for this.

"As do I sir... We can only hope." A glance was taken towards the mountains and ridges that surrounded them. Who knew what predators lurked among them.

Fell nodded and looked out wearily at the small figurines grazing below that represented his herd. "Sometimes, I wonder why I ever challenged my father for Lordship..." He shook his head with a frown. "Sometimes, it really isn't worth all the trouble."

He fell into silence as he stared out at his herd, thinking of his deceased brother Ashlore. If only Ash were still alive... He was certain they would be sharing the Lordship. And even if the did not, Ash would be the Lord and they would consult each other with every decision that came along for the herd.
