Wow I really need to read the manga more. XDD

Being the shishi shipper I am, I know that it isn't canon all the way. However, there are a few hints even in the American Anime version that you can catch. Examples:

1). Throughout the entire first season, not only is Ash's goal to be a pokemon master, but he seems to want to catch up to Gary a lot. This may not seem as much, but it carries over into other animes and manga's, too, as far as BL pairings or even straight pairings go. We see this with May and Drew, as well. Examples from other animes/mangas/games would include Riku and Sora of Kingdom Hearts, with Sora always trying to find Riku/beat Riku/catch up to Riku, and Naruto and Sasuke, with Naruto always trying to be better then Sasuke. And although there are tons of people to be better then, it's always those selected ones.

2). BIG SHISHI MOMENT: EARTH GYM. When Ash ran to Gary and held him in his arms. That just SCREAMED ShiShi, am I right? Caring friend, yes, HOWEVER, I've never seen Ash get so physical with someone else in a serious way besides, perhaps, his mother, which is logical. This also comes back with Sora and Riku: Sora cried for Riku. Coinisidense? (sp? XD)

3).One that amuses me beyond reason: Ash's nickname. Gary calls him, frequently, 'Ashy-boy' (Jari-boii in Japanese). Why in the world would someone give a pet name to their rival? Aren't you supposed to hate that person? And, yes, I could understand if it was something like 'chickenwuss' or 'loser', as Gary also calls Ash. But why not call him that, and only that? Hmmm...

4).One last thing: Pink Shirt. Okay, so maybe it has no significance in ShiShi Shipping, but still! Gary wore a PINK SHIRT WITH PURPLE PATTERN ON IT. Now, am I right when I say that something is a little off with that? (In that episode, Ash also confronted Gary barechested, but that really doesn't have an importance, either, except it was one of those good ol' 'OMGNOSEBLEED' moments...XD)

There are a bunch more that require a good eye, but those are the ones I lay out. As for whether ShiShi is canon? Probably not, but it's still fun to think so. ^^

I just found another slight hint today, that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else.

In this one episode of Pokemon, in Battle Frontier I belive, Ash was feeling down about losing a battle against a Brandon, who he already lost against once. Professor Oak brought him gifts from his pokemon and Mom, but Ash's spirits still weren't revived all the way, although he did thank the Professor. Then, he received a postcard from Gary, and it instantly made his reminisce about a conversation him and Gary had. Once the flashback finishes, he makes this sad face. After May and co. call his name, he snaps out of it and says that Gary is right and he has to try his best, completely energized and happy again when he was so unsure of himself before.

(I'm not entirely sure about some of the events, since it was on live TV, and I wrote this after it, but the idea is still there.)

That indeed happened, I've watched that episode many-a-time and of course Shigeru just had to call Satoshi by his pet name during their little imaginary conversation. That was in AG186, The unbeatable lightness of seeing!. That episode was oozing ShiShi and Contestshipping hints. made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

But I'd have to say that my absolute favorite hints came from the Silver conference episodes.
