in my, and my opinion alone, in no way connected to any other lifer in this guild or world, i say this. I DO care about the mother, but if she DOES die from her own actions, i would treat it like any other foolish death there is- the darwin awards exist for this reason, because some risks are just too blatant to be credible.

it's not like i wish her to die, but if it happens, well, that was her choice.

Right now there are hardly any illegal abortions. But if abortion were made illegal? How far would the numbers shoot up?

You could look at previous numbers of deaths from illegal abortions, or people trying to make themselves miscarry, but this is a different time from then so the numbers will be different. In what way, who knows?
Apparently the numbers were seriously skewed at the time of Roe v. Wade, in favor of deaths from illegal abortions of course.

Seraph, you really should be careful what you say. This 'I care about the baby dying but not the stupid risk-taking mother' crap is only reinforcing the image 'Choicers have of 'Lifers. 'Save the baby! The mum can go to Hell for all we care!'
Honestly, people who think that can feel free to think that but they would be idiots. He stated several times that he cares about the mother, but if she takes a stupid risk it's her own fault that she dies.

This is one instance where I agree completely with divine. If you do something stupid and die from it, I might pity you, but I'm not going to go and cry about it. It's your own fault. It's not like you were walking along and got hit by a stray illegal abortion, or were the victim of an illegal abortion drive by. You decided to kill your unborn child, point one against you. In order to achieve this, you performed a risky procedure or took a dangerous amount of drugs. If you die from it it is your fault and no one else's.

Scribbles, the thing is, we're not just looking at the numbers as individuals, we're looking at it as a percentage. So yes, the numbers will go up, but the percentage will most likely stay the same.

That being said, I'm not a big fan of women dying. If abortion is made illegal, it should ONLY be done if there is funding, health care, etc. for women so they don't feel that they need to resort to illegal abortions.

What's better: both to die from an illegal abortion, or one to die from a legal abortion? That's what it will come down to.

Touche, assuming a worst case scenario where women are going to abort pregnancies regardless of the legality of doing so. One hopes most women are sane and smart enough to think "hm, abortion's illegal, and illegal abortions are dangerous, so I should probably avoid getting pregnant unless I really want a child."

The same way most people think "I really need money, but robbery is illegal, so I should find another way to make do."

If they don't think it's just plain wrong in the first place--many women would never have an abortion anyways, so to them it doesn't matter if it's illegal and punishable by death or legal and free on every corner.
