Gretel joined in with the rest of the room, clapping furiously. She remembered how scared she and her year had been as first years, and she hoped she could keep the older kids from completely cowing this group. She watched them with interest, trying to guess what each one would be best at. It was a game she played every year at the Sorting, and it was fun to see how many of her guesses came true. She eyed a small, skinny boy with hair like straw, mentally marking him off as a good flier. He just seemed like he would be. She hoped he got into Ravenclaw. They had a large group of seventh years this year, and they'd need more good players in the year after.

Steve noticed Victor waving at her. This came as more than a bit of shock to her, but she had already lost her composure once this evening and she was not about to let it happen again over something so minute. She than noticed that the second years around had all moved a seat or two away and that she once again had space. She nodded in acknowledgment to Victor and gestured at a several nearby seats.

"Welcome first years. If you would please quite down now, we shall start the sorting. Now, when your name is called, come up and put on the sorting hat and let it do its job.!" Lupin took the scroll being held out to him by Professor Granger and began---

"Gregory Andrews!"------Ravenclaw!
"Steve Anthony!"---Hufflepuff!
"Helga Arim!---Slitheryn!
"Peter Bartholomew!"----Gryffindor!

OOC--at this point I would like to invite a few of you to add some names and houses to the list because I have a lack of name creativity. It does not have to be alphabetical, but please spread the houses out somewhat evenly. We do not need to list a ton of names, at max 10 names per person. thank you very much!

Gretel clapped in turn for each new first year, and stood to see better over the heads of the people at the other tables and closer to the Sorting Hat. She leaned back against the bench and table, trying to avoid putting an elbow in some exotic dish.

"Kevin Bartleby - Gryffindor!"
"Jacqueline Becker - Hufflepuff!"
"Agatha Bestington - Slytherin!"
"Frederick Bywater - Hufflepuff!"
"Isabel Castella - Ravenclaw!"
"Oliver Castleby - Slytherin!"
"Harry Cricks - Gryffindor!"
"Joline D'elange - Ravenclaw!"
"Lucas Dereck - Hufflepuff!"
"Zebulon Etherton - Slytherin!"
"Gerry Ecks - Gryffindor!"
"Benjamin Feathering - Ravenclaw!"

Gretel clapped feverishly at this last name, the new first year in question being the boy she had seen earlier. She caught his attention with a wave of her hand and directed him to the open space across from her. The few empty spaces there had been would quickly fill up, and then it would be harder for the new kids to work up the courage to sit down, when they had to ask someone else to maybe move over just a smidge? She only hoped the others in Ravenclaw would be as sympathetic.....some guys could be real jerks to the first years.

Her hands were beginning to feel numb and useless from the clapping, so she decided to just settle for cheering for the first years as many had opted to do after the first dozen or so names. Clapping all night would be terrible for their wand skills the next day.

OOC-that's fine, no problem! thank you very much!

BIC- Gustav waved as a new kid sat down in front of him. The kid looked freaked at the all black wearing eye-linered black nail polished fifth year in front of him. "Hey, you know what? Welcome to the Gryphy table." Gustav held his hand out for the kid to shake. "Don't worry, I won't bite, I just dress weird. You like Quidditch?"

As Gustav made conversation with the first year, Drake returned his gaze to Anna. He noticed something though, she was looking in Gustav's direction. He thought it was his nerves acting up, but there was no way.... "Hey Anna, how are you?"

She looked up from her glazed over staring, and smiled, "Good, you? Any nice first years?" She turned away before he could answer.

A'Marie sighed and turned back to watch the sorting. She yawned slightly and resterd her head on her elbow on the table. The sorting was always very boring. She couldn't find a reason for it, she figured out who was in what house before the hat touched their heads. A red haired girl walked up to the hat, 'ravenclaw' A'Marie thought before the hat could speak. After guessing all the other first years right, A'Maire almost fell out of her seat when the hat shouted, "Slytherin!" A'Marie looked over at Souxe, "WHat did they say her name was?" She asked him.

Souxe didn't hear her but was clapping feverishly as the red head walked a little shyly to the slytherin table. There was very little room besides a seat next Souxe. WHen she got down to him Souxe moved over and gestered politly for her to sit.

OoC|| Bumbumbum.........Anna must be possessed! 3nodding

BiC|| Gretel noticed after a moment that the other first years that had been Sorted into Ravenclaw were clumping down at the far end of the table, not sitting down. They were sort of milling around, and she caught a glimpse of a nervous face every once in a while. Frowning, she studied the people down at that end and realized that someone was probably giving them nasty looks. SOME people thought it was amusing to scare the little ones. She waved her hands imperiously at the people around her and beckoned the first years over. One or two mad the mad dash for a safe haven and the rest followed in a scraggly line, some settling for places close to her but among the other students as well. Gretel smiled. That was a step towards integration, at least. She surveyed the flock of first-years around her and almost laughed. If she wasn't careful, she'd have her own little army of first-years. She set to work giving all of them an encouraging smile and a whispered greeting, trying to store away all their names somewhere in her head where she wouldn't lose them all.

Jason made a face at Gretel as she shooed people away to make room for the first years, but he knew it was just how she was. He looked the group of new students ove, marking out who would probably be the most interested in Quidditch and/or would actually be any good. One of them, sitting directly across from Gretel, looked to be a good flier and he wondered if Gretel had noticed as well. There were one or two others, but he was distracted from being able to tell definitely by some of the older students sitting by him.

After a while, the line was gone, and the first years were all being cheered for as the last ones sat down. Lupin stood up called for quiet. "Alright, now, as I'm sure you are all hungry, and can't wait to get talking with friends, I'll keep it short. The restricted item list is being posted with the other school announcements, and might I remind the veterans, and instruct the first years,m that the forest is strictly forbidden. Classes will start tomorrow first thing, and you will get your schedules at breakfast. Now, shall we?" At this, the golden plates were full, and the feast began.

OoC|| Well. I obviously haven't read an HP book for a while......somehow I failed to remember that the feast doesn't start until after the Sorting. So I guess Gretel DIDN'T avoid putting her elbow in something, since there wasn't anything there to put her elbow IN. sweatdrop

OOC-no worries^^ we shall over look that.

BIC--Gustave looked at the food, then at his plate, then placed a hand on his empty stomach, "Guys, I'm gonna eat, no more waiting, watch out..." He took a serving spoon from some mashed potatoes, and pilled his plate full.then, he whipped some gravy onto his plate and dug in. The first years found it funny, and also began to eat.

Drake politely put some food on his plate and not so politely shoved it in his face.

THe girl sat down next to Souxe and began to fill her plate up. Souxe helped himself to some fish. HE also had a large glass of milk. He smiled at the girl but she didn't pay any attention to him. Souxe didn't care, he went back to his fish.

A'Maire looked at the food and sat back. She didn't feel much up to eating anymore.

Bridget loved how the plates suddenly filled with food before her eyes. Magic neved ceased to amaze her. As she was helping herself to some chicken she noticed a few first years laughing and turned to see what caught their attention. She smiled as Gustave and Drake, only a few seats down, started shoving food into their faces. With a small laugh she turned back to her own food.
