"Oh." The calf lightly headbutted the tree. Not that he really thought it made any difference to the tree. He just wanted to. "That wasn't very nice of the tree."
Tumi shook his head. He hadn't really seen much of anyone around. The herd seemed to be doing a lot of wandering around on its own, which didn't really matter much to him. He was rather used to being on his own, having been separated from his mother so early.
After waiting a moment for Sesilida to reply, he remembered that she couldn't see him, so he added, "Nope, haven't seen anyone."
Come to think of it, Sesilida and Glosoli were rarely very far apart. "Why isn't he with you?"

That was a very good question, and one Sesilida was not sure she should answer in full. "He had to go talk to some of the other cows. But he'll be back soon, I'm sure." Of course he would; he said he would. She just had to wait there so that she didn't get lost.
Then she realized that she had just moved away from the spot where she had been waiting, which might not have been a good idea. If she went back, though, she would probably get stuck in the same mud.
"Maybe you could help me again," she said to Tumi. "I should go back to the place where Glosoli will go, but the reason I left it was that I kept sinking into the mud. I think I can find my way back. If you could point me toward some dry ground near there, that would be a great help."

"Oooh." The bulls seemed to be doing a lot more of that lately; hanging around the cows, that is. Or maybe it was the cows who were hanging around the bulls. Either way, there was a lot more hanging going on than usual. "I don't get why he couldn't just hang around you instead of the other cows."
Tumi gave a little shrug and picked up his walking stick in his mouth, so he could find a fairly dry path back to the spot Sesilida had been waiting. He managed to find one fairly quickly, and dropped his stick to let her know. "Can you follow my voice?"

She smiled but didn't say anything, privately agreeing though she knew that was selfish. Hearing him move away she waited and listened. Then she moved to follow. "Yes, I think I can." It wasn't far, she could tell from his voice, so she locked his position in her mind and walked carefully toward it, paying attention for any pulling on her antlers. Getting stuck again would be ridiculous. When she thought she had gone far enough she paused and asked, "Am I there yet?"

"Yep! Just a little more forward, and left a bit." He looked around while he waited for her to reach the spot. Coming their way was Glosoli. "Hey, Glosoli! We're over here!"
They couldn't see it, but Glosoli smiled. He was glad to see someone was looking after Sesilida, even if it was just Tumi. And she'd probably be glad of the company, too. Anything to help assuage his guilt. "Hello there!"
Before Glosoli'd even arrived yet, Tumi was already starting to wander off again, his mind focused on a bird that was looking for worms or some other wiggly things in the mud.
"Well, he certainly makes a very attentive guardian," Glosoli said when he finally arrived. He pawed at the mud a bit. "Sorry that I was gone so long."

At the mention of Glosoli she lifted her head and smiled, searching for his scent in the air. "Ah, there you are." What a relief! She turned back to the calf and said, "Thank you, Tumi," hearing his steps as he wandered away.
"Oh yes, he was very helpful," she replied with a kind of sincerity so perfect that it subtly questioned itself. Her familiarity with her brother was such that she was confident in reaching out to nudge him with her nose, sensing precisely where he was without needing too much guidance from his voice. "It's all right. I'm just glad you're back." She smirked. "I've had quite an adventure. Somehow I got my antlers stuck in a tree branch, and Tumi helped me get free."
