We had flute choir in wind ensemble today and I found out how much the section sucks. They can't even play their high notes. Now I know why I got first chair but I don't have some of the same music as them so I ended up sight reading their music and I played it better than them even though they've had this music for weeks and I've had the piccolo music for that long too. Its really annoying to have to sit there and wait for the teacher to help them get it. they shouldv'e practiced the music so that way they can at least get the notes out if not getting the peice perfect. I really wish wind ensemble was good. Its really a bunch of people who think that they don't have to practice because they made it into the top band at the school. I'm first chair and I practice all the time. I'd rather be last chair in a really good band than be first chair in our wind ensemble. I'm just so annoyed at them right now. I can't wait till woodwind quintet so we can have something challanging because all of the people who are going to be in it actually PRACTICE!!! wow! what a concept!

I'm so excited because I get to play with the langley air force band on tuesday! My band director held auditions and selected 3 people to perform with them and I got chosen along with an amazing clarinet player and a really good french horn player! I'm so excited! Also, I'm friends with both of them so at least I know 2 other people there! I have district band auditions comming up in december and I still haven't gotten the prepaired peice for that! At least I have been practicing my scales, so those should be perfect when I go to audition (If they're not, I will cry!) anyway, I can't wait till chair auditions come up again so that way we can get some of the better flute players on the 1st flute parts. I'd play it but I'm first chair so I have to play piccolo. I like piccolo but when I'm not playing, you can really hear how bad the 1st flutes are. Some of the second flutes must've had bad chair tests or something because they are definately better than some of the first flutes...

Okay, so yesterday I played with the Langley Air Force Band.... simply AMAZING! There was only me and the first chair flute player in the air force band playing the flute part! I could actually be heard unlike in wind ensemble where you can only hear the stupid first flutes that dont know how to balance or play their high notes... and then they attempt to play them and then we all sound out of tune.. and the second flutes who cant play or balance!!! Its so annoying because I'm on the piccolo part so the solos sound like crap because the 2nd flute has a bad tone and cant play her rythms right.. or even the freaking key signature for that matter... ITS E NATURAL!!! NOT E FLAT!!!! FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME!!!! anyway, I'm done with my little rant... and now I can't wait till college where people will actually be able to play.... I only have to suffer this for the rest of this year and then I can sit beside dedicated musicians who actully know of this brilliant concept called PRACTICING! anyway, the concert went well and I got to hang out with tyler for the whole evening and hear about how he got to play the 1st clarinet part instead of 2nd (which they gave him). That night was truly amazing!

Wow! Is it almost December already?!

I have the christmas parades and district band auditions comming up! So soon! It seemed so far away but now its not! I need to practice like crazy to make sure everything is good, plus I need to practice oboe for this church and for college auditions (for a scholarship)!!! Too much to do! Plus I want to get a job... I guess I will be putting that off until the holidays are over!

Okay, so district band auditions are tomorrow. I feel like everything is in good order, I have my chromatic scale up to 130 bpm so maybe the judges will notice all the hard work I put into it, and I have my etude down (and memorized so if I get distracted, I can still play it) and all my scaled are perfect. I just hope I dont get to nervous.... that way I dont second-guess myself like I did auditioning for senior regional orchestra. District band will be much eaiser to get into (I mean, c'mon! they definately accept more than 2 flutes). I am still deciding if I want to audition on piccolo too.... I mean, I can do everything on piccolo but if I get first chair, then I would get the solos but if I audition on picc and I do the best on picc too, then they will put me on picc... but if I don't get first chair, then I could play piccolo instead. I'd rather have flute solos but if I dont get the solos, I'd rather be on picc.

Also, we need another chair test in wind ensemble. The second chair flute has a solo that she can't play well but I can't play it because its right after I play something important. I can't stand it because I could play it and sound a million times better than her (not to sound egotistical or anything... I just know that I have a better tone than her). I can't stand it. I'm about to ask my band director to have a test for the flute solo so we can at least find another flute player who can play it. If anything, maybe it will get her to practice it. then I can give her tips on how to make her tone better on stuccato notes. Its not like its a hard solo. It just involves counting and I dont think she knows how to count rythms.

I'm going insane wondering what the results were for district band... I wanna know but they screwed up the results. They have unofficial results but my band director wont tell them to anyone so peoples hopes don't get up that they made it and have it turn out that they didn't. I did wonderfully on my audition only I screwed up my sight reading because I couldn't concentrate on anything except for how nervous I was and how badly I just wanted to go home after warming up for 4 hours because my band director didn't turn in the money on time so we had to wait at the end of the line until they got ahold of my band director so that way we could get our numbers... of course, we were all the last people in our sections to go. It was horrible being there for 5 hours stright. From what I heard from the unofficial results, my friend tyler got 1st chair on clarinet. He didn't see what I got though so I'm so nervous. He's nervous too because he's not sure if he really has first chair since the results ARE not official. I hope to find out soon! biggrin

Oh My God! They finally got in the official results for district band and I made it!! I'm so happy! I got 4th chair so I just missed out of qualifying to be able to audition for all state, but still! 4th chair where I've only been taking lessons for 1 year! (then again, I am a senior) but still! I did really good! YAY!!!

I just need a pianist to practice with and I will be set! I'm so excited! Now I need to find something nice to wear to my audition!

We just had district band this weekend! It was so much fun! Our director went to eastman and juliard! He was awesome and we sounded amazing! We played this one song called puszta and it was really cool! We also played october (which I have played before) and it was really pretty! We sounded amazing when we sight read it too! That was pretty cool! Now I'm excited about the USC honor band clinic the week after next! Thats going to be fun! I am tired so I am going to go to bed now

Okay, so this weekend was pretty awesome! I went to an honor band clinic and I was in a car with a guy I have had a crush on for like the whole year for about 9 hours! He gave me and the other girl in my car and her mom chocolate roses for valentines day! I had to go see concerts (like band concerts of all the university bands at the University of South Carolina) with him. I wasn't in the same band as him (we had to audition to see what band we were to be placed in and what chair we got) but I still saw him during all of the break times and everything. I found out that he doesn't like this on girl that he used to like (and she likes him but he said that she never did anything to tell him that she wanted to be more than just friends so he never asked her out). We were talking about her and he was like "she had her chance to go out with me". We were flirting occasionally while we were in south carolina and then on the way home, he gave me a medal that he got for making it into the honor band (I got into one of the lower bands because I ******** up my entire audition) and we ate the last two cupcakes his mom made for our car and we were flirting then and that was amazing. Then it go later and we were falling asleep and his head slid down to my shoulder and he was sleeping on me until we stopped at a gas station for a potty break. Then we were laying there in the back seat and we were texing eachother about how horrible the girls mom was at driving (she kept running off the road and was following the wrong car and she even got flipped off several times. Anyway, I can't get the picture out of my head of him laying there smiling. Then he fell asleep again while I tried to sleep and I might've fallen asleep for a few minutes... I'm not really sure... anyway, at our last stop, he had to go in my band directors car because he lives about half an hour away from everyone else and that was sad. I texted him that I missed him and that the back seat felt lonely without him but he never replied (and I found out today that the reason he never replied was because he left the phone in the car by accadent.. I hope the girl didn't go through it because we were being kinda mean about her moms driving... lol) anwyay, I got home around 3 am this morning and I didn't see him at school today. I guess his mom let him stay home. My evil mom didn't let me since I have to miss this thursday and friday of school for my college auditions...

anyway, that was my weekend plus thursday and friday of last week...

nothings really happened between then and now... Just little things like tri county band and solo ensemble.

Tri county band was fun. I got the piccolo part, naturally. We were outside for almost the whole first day though, because someone called in a bomb threat. I found out the guy that I like has a girlfriend, i dunno if he likes me but I doubt it. I'm kinda going away from my crush on him... i think. I'll just wait till college to get another boyfriend since its so close to graduation...

Solo Ensemble was great. I played my flute solo for judge 1. He told me my solo was gutsy to play at solo ensemble! He just wanted me to do a little more with my hairpin crecendos at the end of the song but I deserved my 1 (thats how I found out that I got a 1 before today!). For both flute choirs, I was with judge 2. I played alto flute for symphonic bands flute choir and he said that the 3rd, alto, and bass flutes all blended well together! With wind ensembles flute choir, I played piccolo and the only comment the judge made was "I'm surprised the piccolo doesn't overpower the rest of the flute choir! The piccolo almost always overpowers the other flutes!". Everyone gave me high fives! Both flute choirs got 1's! I played my clarinet solo for judge 1 later that day and I'm still waiting to hear the results... my band director forgot the judge sheets in his other car and they didn't e-mail him the results of my clarinet solo... just the results of everything else.... grr.... I guess I will find out tomorrow.

anyway, nothing really musical comming up except for the flute recital and the spring concert...

prom is next weekend and thats about it....

wow..... so I havent posted in like almost a year......

Anyway, I'm in college now. I didn't like the flute studio so now I'm in the oboe studio. Still majoring in music education though. I still play flute but not as much anymore because I obviously have to practice oboe more. Flute is way eaiser and sounds better now that I don't have my braces smile and I like the bands in college way better than in high school because everyone there wants to be there.... or they skip (like chris, the second oboe that never comes to band) and so its a lot better sounding. Um.... my friend got 1st chair clarinet at states!! WHOOO! Anwyay.... yeah. I'm tired so I'm gonna take a nap before I go party tonight. smile

Ugh.... my audition for the oboe studio is in like a week and 2 days! I'm so nervous! But if I get in, it would be awesome! The people in the oboe studio are so much nicer than the people in the flute studio. You dont have all that competition and stuff..... It'll be nice if I get in. If not, I'm going to just try another major I think. But yea, I havent played my flute in a while but every time I pick it up, i still have a good tone. I just need to work on playing faster passages again. I still remember the fingerings but I have a hard time reading the really high notes because I'm not used to reading them. I used to be able to look at a note with 5 ledger lines and know that it was a B. Oh well. Once I get into the oboe studio, I will try to get into symphony band so I can play flute in concert band.
