His name is squall the reason he is called leon in kingdom hearts is because he doesnt want people to know who he really is and wants to forget the past if you have placed kingdom hearts you will realise this.

Darth-Jebus Actually, I prefer the name squall (Cause hes my favorite Final Fantasy character) but they didnt actually change his name, they just took the first part of his last name agree Squall is the best

FOR GOD SAKES PPL, IT'S JUST A FRIGGIN NAME!!!!!!!! GET OVER IT!!!! wutever you call him, he's still the same person. that's how i think of it. (personally, i like Leon better, cuz i knew kingdom hearts before FF8. sad isn't it?)

or, rather, he was introduced to me by my cousin as leon, not squall....hmm...i think that was before kingdom hearts......idk, either way, the name doesn't matter...jeez......

huh, it's Funny that you think he's weaker in KH. The only thing other than his clothing that is different is that he actually speaks. If speaking like you aren't going through and emotion crisis is weakness, then alot of us are weak. None the less, His ORIGINAL name is Squall Leonhart , his KH name Leon. It's pretty much tha same as the Aeris Aerith issue. A name is a name and no matter which so many of you like better, neither game is going to change, so might as well live with it.

They changed his name to Leon, cuss of after the whole Riona thing, something about him making a fresh start with the first part of his last name.
I agree with Ruukaisu. A name is but a name, nothing other then that. And I don't know why people get so pissed about it. If you know his last name Leon = Leonheart is still part of his name!!!! True F.F. 8 fans would know that and not get pissed. I don't think he was week in the KH game ether.
How do you know if he's weak, if he's A.I. Cus you never!!!! Play as him and of course he's stronger in 8 cuss you get to lvl him up!! DUH...

I'm not a fan of Riona that much, but I do like the paring between Squall and her.

That's just dumb! Well, at least he doesn't go by Leon Leonhart, just Leon. I think the change was a little silly, but it helps characterize him a bit, even making him closer personality-wise to VIII's Squall. It's a nice, simple way to do it, considering they really can't get into a whole deep backstory for a side character, much as the Final Fantasy fans would appreciate it.

I agree with these people. "Leon" would be appropriate in a KH forum. And I've really never liked Rinao and Squall as a couple. In my eyes, they just don't match, although it may be that she brought out a much more easy going side of Squall that he had been neglecting throughout his life.
