Gilco Actually I don't want barrack to win. The president after Bush is doomed to have a very very difficult 4 years in power and is probably going to make mistakes. There is too much on the line, too much for a chance for people to say "it was the black mans fault". I think that him running and people knowing that he had a chance is enough for blacks for now. The future will not slip from our fingers if we are careful. That was almost exactly what I was thinking. And suddenly I'm reminded of a skit from Chappelle's Show where they were re-doing movies, and one of them was where Morgan Freeman (I think?) was the first black president and he had to save the world from a meteor striking the earth. A newspaper said something like this: Quote: Huge Meteor to Destroy the Earth: Black President's Fault That was hilarious. But anyways, Gilco, you were very right. Anyone who is president after Bush has to be responsible for resolving the War on Terror, and if he doesn't people will be criticizing him harshly. But I do bet they'll criticize Barrack even harsher. So he should really wait... get more experience in politics and diplomacy.... wait until 2012 or 2016... and run for office again. I just don't want him to get discouraged from running again. Ryusuke Mitsurugi Exactly. How can we move forward when over half of us are proud to be ignorant. When I think of hip-hop, I think of the Huxtables. Clare(old hip-hop) dealing with Vannessa's (mainstream)bullshit while Rudy(the future) looks on and Denise(new hip-hop) is chilling in the living room. That was a unique analogy for hip hop. I never saw it like that. A lot of people wish that music was like it was back in the day. But not enough. Most people who like mainstream don't even pay attention to the lyrics, they just love the beat. That's where that whole stupidity topic comes up again. Was it someone in this guild (? idk) who said if people hear something all our lives, whether it's true or completely false, and it's stated as fact we'll start to act as if it's true, and even eventually make it true. Like stereotypes. Of black people being lazy or stupid. That was most certainly never true, especially back during slavery. But (and I know obviously not all black ppl are stupid and lazy) I think some people are starting to embody that stereotype. Like being proud to be dumb or feeling tough because you went to prison, or calling a black person white because they get good grades. As if to be black you have to act dumb! That's bullshit. I don't know when people started to think like that but some did. If people realized that we need to start caring about our futures and what we're showing to kids today is just wrong for them, we can finally start to progress as a people.

Yeah he's going to go through some s**t, if we believe in him and let it all work out, he might show everybody that we're not lazy and stupid. He might just kill the sterotype and set the standard. You never know. And yeah, I like that analogy. I came up with it myself. cool This whole sterotype is what makes me angry with black people. I look at them like monkeys now. I mean, I know Im not better than anyone, and that no one is better than me. But you cant help it when their behavior puts you on a pedestal.

But the way a lot of them act really irritate me. We have so much potential, and a lot of it is just wasted. But about Barrack.... if he wins as the Democratic candidate, then I'll make sure my family votes for him. If he becomes president, tbh I think the first black president might be assasinated. I can see that happening unfortunately. BUT if he loses the democratic candidacy (I think that's what it's called) I just don't want him to be discouraged from running again.

And Im pretty sure Barrack wont be assassinated. Cuz Bush should have been a long time ago. That man is the AntiChrist. Time will have to answer your question.

When people say that Barrack is "too Black" or not "Black enough" it seems kind of ridiculous. It's great that there is a Black running for president but when it comes down to your country you should be looking at the candidates arguments. Not their skin colour. No one was speaking about Halle Berry being bi-racial when she won. Maybe people should adopt the same mentality.

Halle Berry running for Miss America? razz Halle Berry running for Oscar? neutral Right now, I think that America as a whole uses the mentality, but only for silly things.

When he went to South America? You know, my brother thought he was the antichrist. But I doubt he's gonna destroy the world before he's out of office. Anyways, I think Barrack's gonna get assasinated for the same reason Martin Luther King was assasinated. Because he'll be a black man helping black people (even though in a way he was helping everybody). There are, I'm guessing, crazy racist ppl out there in the country who will probably want to get rid of him. Sorry to be pessimistic. How do you dress and talk like monkeys? They don't talk or dress....! Obviously I get what you mean. But I despise the phrase monkey.

Gilco For Oscar. It was apparently an important step or something for blacks if i'm not mistaken. Umm, it was the first for black ppl, but it was nothing significant. And think about what she had to do to get the damn thing........ UnsetReality How do you dress and talk like monkeys? They don't talk or dress....! Obviously I get what you mean. But I despise the phrase monkey. what would you call it then? Neanderthals? Caveman? s**t? I mean, I said monkeys because they display intelligence while their behavior contradicts it. Oh, and what about the obsession with monkeys? The whole King Kong thing in our speech?: "King Kong aint got nothing on me!" or Jibbs new song "King Kong"? The cries and sounds we make sometimes: "Oooh Oooh!"- Ludacris Any Uncle Luke song and fast paced booty song from the early 90s. And for the icing on the cake, some of the clothes we wear. : High priced clothing with an ape as the logo. Currently in style as of now. See, I was just using monkey as a metaphor. But there is too much said and done for it to be a coincidence.

Anyways... Halle Berry wasn't the first black women to win an Oscar was she? It was some women from the 60's. Halle was the first to win it in a long time. And um... so Gilco... you never heard the chicken-watermelon stereotype in Canada? Do you not have Dave Chappelle up there?

Wasn't her name Dorothy Dandridge? But, even so why is it such an achievement for a black person to do something another black person has already done? Why cant it be a standard for the rest of us? (Which ties in to the whole Barrack thing...) Plus, Halle Berry didnt get an Oscar or Emmy for portraying her either.....

You Americans are weird. And considering I had to do a search on Dave Chappelle to remember who he was I guess that answers the question about him being known here.....but I could always just be out of the loop. I think that it is an achievement no matter who did it in the past. It is true that we must always set high standards for ourselves but why feel less pride when something is accomplished simply because it has been done before? The fact that it was already done does not make it any less admirable. To become very famous you had to of had some dumb luck in there no matter how good you are and the fact that it was a black (who don't get as many oppertunities as whites) makes it all the better.

Hey, stop and look at yourself before you point fingers and call us weird. For every reason you call us weird, there are 3 reasons why you're weird. And I totally disagree with your statement. Its less pride cuz its been done before. Who wants to do what other people have done before with the exception of (gasp surprised )today's black people? I dont know about you, but we need to do more than just what somebody did yesterday. The standard should push us to do more. By following the high standard and doing more than the standard, we tell the world that we're a strong people.

I was just joking. I have a sense of humour too you know! crying
Anyways, I can see the point you are trying to make but I do not agree with the fact that you cannot feel much pride over something someone in your race has accomplished. I am by no means at all saying that we should be satisfied with what we have done in the past but I am saying that we can still be proud for what we do now.(even if it has been done before). Not doing so only hurts ourselves.
