Anime-himeRin tis in the last chapter of one of my multichapter fics, the only mary sue-ish characteristic was that they wound up saving tsuzuki and hisoka... well, not for nothing, there really wasnt any other way to end the story (i tried several other ways that were, even i noticed, pretty mary sue-ish) and this was the least cliche way to end it. it was still cliche, though. but it didnt deserve that jerk cursing me out and telling me i should never write again and all that jazz.... tis why i deleted their review 3nodding  >> Only the blackest of hearts
well, when it comes to fanfics - any character who is in some way superior to a main one (unless of course the main one is a vegetable, or in some other way severly disabled - then it's a mary sue for being inferior to the main character)

Can feel the purest of love << like i said, twas the least cliche way to go about things as i wanted the story to end that chapter no matter what. but yeah if they had kindly pointed it out to me id have thanked them and said something about trying to improve next time. but as they cursed me out and insulted me and my story and the whole 9 yards.... no such politeness from me XD

Wait 'till you become a published author; you'll be drowning in more flames then hell itself - such is the fate of a published author; more people read it and feel they need to critique and flame it further for reasons beyond my comprehension - unless of course you are... no, I lie. Even the most famous authors in the world get flamed like there's no tomorrow

flames are d00med to always exist, it doesnt matter how much you research a topic before you write it, there will always be more people who hate it and feel they need to comment than people who love it and feel they need to comment

I'd just stop listening after a while. 3nodding If someone has thoughtful, constructive criticism, I think about how to improve next time, but if the person just hates it for whatever reason, ignore them. I've learned not to care that much about other people's opinions... probably around the time my sixth grade English teacher "corrected" the grammar in one of my writings, which actually created the only misuse of grammar in it.
I would suggest that, if you really want to listen to someone's critiques, get someone who knows what they're doing, though preferrably not a good friend who won't be able to point out your flaws. I can critique my friend's grammar, but that's pretty much it.

I get Ms. Murphy and Ms. McCoy; as they know more on the subject... and I ignore flamers too; but you do have to deal with them A LOT (including mail from them - another dire flaw to novelism; ze fanmail O_o). I don't like Ms. Frey enough to ask for critique on my work, but whatever...
*clicks tongue* Some works don't get flamed except by religious groups though (but screw them)... like the Da Vinci Code. Almost nobody but Christians flamed that - and well... if I could just generally piss off a religious group and nobody else, then I'd love that.

yeah its much more fun when you can anticipate who's going to flame the story XD cuz then when they do you can point and laugh. this is my favorite response to flames (that i use whenever i get one): "*adds flame to fire* nice and toasty warm =D i can raost marshmallows now! no, seriously, if you didnt like it dont read it, dont review it, and stfu. if youre going to critique me, do it CONSTRUCTIVELY"

I say different things depending on what story they are flaming, normally, as I am writing SOMETHING including fire, I just say that their flames will be used for that person (Itachi, Thorn/Saphira, Brulure, etc.) - although... *cackles* When I wrote a Seto/Joey M-Rated fic, I got some flames for the pairing (why? it's so popular...) and I was just likes "Your flames will be added to heat their passion~"
This shut them up. And probably disturbed them further.
Now, for books, sometimes you won't know something will be in a story by reading the back cover - so it is okay to irrationally hate it afterwards. HOWEVER - when it comes to fanfiction, the pairing is almost always stated. I mean, if you bitterly hate... let's say, Harry/Draco, as I know Rina does not like Harry/Draco. All my Harry/Draco stories are clearly labeled, Harry/Draco, Harry/Malfoy, or HP/DM - if you saw this, then you wouldn't read it. You don't go reading it and then flaming it.
I also know many people who will read (clearly labeled) NC-17 ItaKisa, and then say they are mentally disturbed by the image of Kisame partaking in that activity. I'm just like "Well... then why did you read it?"

I have no idea - I myself read it... but I had full awareness of what ItaKisa and NC-17 in the same description entailed; I just didn't care.
But I mean, why read something - if it's obviously something you don't want to read?

i don't know, the people of this world deeply confuse me... why go out and read things you know youre gonna hate just for the purpose of flaming them? really... i dont go around flaming all the MurSoka fics, no matter how much i may want to. and if i can restrain from THAT, i think people can restrain from reading ItaKisa if they dont want to XD
