Bathory started the whole black metal scene. But after a while they began to play something we call viking. Still viking has many black influences.
Dimmu is medolic black metal.

headbanger69 Angel of Metal headbanger69 Angel of Metal Discuss your favorite Black Metal bands here. Me: Venom, Opeth, Dragonlord, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Bathory. For the record, I don't like the whole Satanist part of Black Metal, but none of them were really Satanist, they just did it to sell records. (and for those of you who believe Black Metal is the most satanist, a lot of Hair Metal bands put backwards masking in their songs, like Styx, whose name is based on the Greek Mythology of the river in Hades, and Maiden poked fun at this in the song "Still Life". Alright for starters , Cradle Of Filth is gothic metal with screwed vocals . Bathory is viking metal except for the early stuff , and I am pretty sure Dimmu or melodic death , though they might be melodic black .For Starters, You have no grammar skills, so before you start telling me what's in which subgenre, learn to type in the English language. Also, Cradle of Filth is Black Metal with gothic influences, though it is a more "Pop" Black Metal, it is still Black Metal. Also, Viking Metal isn't even a subgenre, it's a description. It means Folk Metal with Black Metal. And Bathory, along with Venom, invented the friggen' genre. Dimmu Borgir is Black Metal. No argument on that. alright A. don't be an a** just because my typing isn't up to snuff B. Viking Metal is a genre C. early Bathory is black metal then the switched somewhere and turned into the pioneers of Viking Metal. It's not your spelling, it's the fact that you don't know how to hit the , or . keys. Don't be lazy. And anyway, Yeah, I guess so, but I still don't consider it a full Sub-genre, just more of a sub-genre/Fusion Genre, like Melo-Death. It just depends on the individual band.
