Petch stared at Esen a moment as he tried to make sense of her pantomime. Or maybe he was just staring at Esen's assets as gravity caused them to bounce up and down.
"Uh, right. Me neither," Petch fumbled over the words in his distraction and started to cough on all the dust.

Ever the proper lady, Esen waited until Petch was distracted with coughing so that she could she adjust her, now rather crooked, "assets" with her arms, then cleared her throat nonchalantly.
He totally didn't notice - at least, that's what she thought.
"Well, yeah, you'd be a waterbender, wouldn't you?" She was just gabbing absentmindedly now, to make conversation. "That's gotta be neat. I've heard some of the techniques look kind of similar to sandbending. Oh hey." She came to an abrupt stop.
They were outside of a shack-looking building. Esen had found it once while out slumming. "It doesn't look like much, but the food is great." She explained, heading for the front door.

Ignorance was bliss, eh, Esen?
"Uh, yeah, sure. Maybe," Petch replied. He had no idea what sand bending looked like, so what the hell kind of question what that? Geez.
Petch looked at the building and had nothing to complain about. He'd eaten at worse looking places, and pretty much anything was better than having to catch you dinner and clean the damn thing. "Sounds good to me," he grunted, following her inside.

Esen stopped just inside of the entrance of the small shop. She turned and, pulling some coin out of a bag tied to her waist, handed Petch enough for food and a drink. "Have at it!"
She then moved abruptly past the room's only table to a counter where various jars full of strange liquids were sitting and poured a bit of the darkest sauce over what was left in her bowl.
The shop's proprietor, a happy-looking heavy set man with a stained apron, came out of the back and smiled when he saw that one of his customers had returned, and with a second one, this time. "Oh! Hello! How can I help you?"

Petch stood stupidly at the entry way as Esen dropped the copper in his hand and left. As much as she had been annoying him, he felt a little indignant to have her abandon him so abruptly. So, rather than enjoying a nice quiet meal to himself, he made his way over to where Esen had seated herself and sat himself down as well.
"Beef bowl," he grunted at the owner and gave Esen a look like he was going to tell her his a** was glued to the seat if she tried to protest.

Esen peered curiously at Petch for a moment before she started eating. "Miss my company, already?" She sounded satisfied with herself.
The shop owner had already headed back into the kitchen, and the sound of meat sizzling could be heard. "Smells good." Esen commented.

"Yeah, whatever," he replied grudgingly. His stomach made another loud, gurgling protest and it took every ounce of willpower for him not to loudly complain about the slow service. Less than a minute after ordering.
"Smell a lot better if I was already eating it," he grumbled.

"When was the last time you ate, anyway?" She raised an eyebrow at Petch. "Been a few days?"

Petch had to think a moment. That was probably not a good sign. There had been some leftover bread, but... "A proper meal? Probably a few days. Don't exactly have the luxury of tossing coins at the first vagrant that catches my eye," he replied without any effort at gratitude for Esen's generosity.

"What you do have is the blessing of receiving a handout from a cute girl." Esen informed him, wiggling the wide end of her chopsticks in his direction. "You could at least thank me."

"Thanks," he said grudgingly, making a face at the chopsticks. He hardly liked humouring a teenaged girl, but his stomach wasn't about to let him do anything to miss out on the much desired meal.
As if the kitchen staff could hear Petch's stomach all the way in the back as it gurgled once more, the shop owner reappeared carrying the beef bowl and set it down in front of Petch.
He didn't even waste half a second inhaling the delicious scent of beef before ravenously stuffing the bowls contents into his mouth. As the flavour hit his tongue, it only served to remind his stomach of just how hungry he was.
If he continued to eat that fast, he was going to choke.

"Man. You really are hungry." Observed Esen as she watched him wolf down his food. Any efforts to tell him the meal wouldn't get away from him if he just slowed down would have probably fallen on deaf ears, so she didn't bother speaking. Instead, Esen focused her attention on her own food and the two rather ungracefully finished their meals in near silence.
