Avoid and Survive. Go north till they frost over, remove those in the way with long-range combat. If I could gain access to, I'd use an M24 with a silencer to reduce audio-attraction and just keep moving. If need be, at campsites or stopping points, set up (again, if I can get access) Claymore mines or even simple frag grenades as tripwire traps around. The boom of course would not only cause an obvious audio-attraction, but also serve as a wakeup call to pack-and-run. Waiting on my copy of the Book, so I may revise and perfect this. Personally, don't hunt them; odds aren't in my favor. Just Avoid and Survive.

Uless One question... WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT TO HUNT THEM!?!?!?! Simple - to thin them out. You need to empty them out of the area surrounding your safehouse and clear a path to an area with supplies. Granted, your safehouse should be well-stocked, but it won't have permanent supplies. Gardens can't grow in the winter. You can't trust the water supply. Twinkies are yummy. These are all reasons to hunt them out of the supply zone.

anyone ever seen the 300? well i would have six guys in an alley way holding shields and making sure that the zeds couldn't get to us and have two guys shooting the hell out of said zeds from an elevated position *note we are in an alley that is big enough for only six people. aka the one by my house* maybe give the Spartans pistols and riots shields for said shield wall =D

To Will:
Yeaah but then the "Spartans" would have to, well, eat, sleep, and go potty. An alley way may seem a good defense choice, but remember, the 300 ultimately died.
I'm not sure if this was in the book but my friends and I were discussing tactics you could use with military (such as the National Guard base near my middle school with a TANK (yes a tank)). I suggested using a Tank to just have dead zombies grease the tires and occasionally fire the main cannon. My friend suggested something similar to the Cage. Have a person in the tank and sort of have the tank "rumble". Since noise attracts zombies, they'll be essentially assaulting a large metal beast made to withstand artillery. And of course, having sharpshooters nearby, probably in something similar to the Tower. Since it's a tank, you can throw all the molotovs you want.
And since there's almost no chance of us getting to use the tank, I'd say get a yacht or a motorboat and just have it out in the harbor in deep waters. From there you can safely snipe the zombies and if they try to come for you, they'll just sink to the bottom of the bay and aimlessly wander around there until decomposition finally takes place. With luck, they'll wander out far enough that the pressure will crush them into a small golf ball.
Just my two cents.
Oooh and you can stock the yacht with food. The USS Massachusetts would probably be more ideal, firing her 16" cannons and having a mess hall and barracks made for all their sailors, not to mention room to carry all that food. The problem would obviously be lack of people who know how to steer a battleship, but hell, Improvisation is my middle-name.

It would be madness, but really, do you really want to die quickly yet painfully? Remember, the reanimation doesn't set in until 23 hours later. For about a few minutes, you'll have the meat stripped off your body by rotten teeth.
I probably agree with your assessment of fear and paranoia but I'd try to survive, if we're all going to die, why not see how long you can cheat the clock. For a Class 4, yes we're all royally screwed but I'd at least try to survive before martyrdom.

The Spartans were forced to break formation, leaving holes for the enemy units to exploit. I'm pretty sure zombies aren't intelligent enough to notice the holes. But what would you use as a shield? A garbage can lid? And you could make a wall out of trash.

Seriously were ******** are you going to find claymores and grenades at. A M24 w/ silencer. A tank? For god sakes you don't even know how to drive one. And for the weapons if you get one from a base or a gun store chances are that they are all gone. Also most people haven't even fired a weapon. Chances are they won't know how.

Is it sad that I've never been in the military and yet am fairly confident in my ability to drive a tank? Maybe not an Abrams (dunno what's changed in recent models), but drop me in a Sherman and I could pass a DMV driving test after five minutes of acclimating.

Seriously, hey're pretty much designed like a bike on he inside. Most of the WWII tanks had two sticks, one for each track. I haven't gotten a good look at he driving section of the Abrams, but I'm pretty sure it has a handlebar-like control.

And it should be said that they're BRAKES, not gas pedals.
