If he expected her to jump to her feet, he was sadly mistaken. Mostly because she didn't agree with him, but partly because she just didn't feel like accepting that she had no reason to be upset. Because to her, she DID. So instead she chose to scowl and argue.
"So if I make the future situations in which these others act in, essentially I'm setting the stage. They'll react a certain way, but the original situation was still mine to create. So in the end I was the one who helped set them up to become who they were." She wasn't sure if he would understand what she was saying, but she wasn't ready to quit quite yet.
"Everyone is cut and paste. It's the ORDER and the sequence that you're put together in that makes you who you are. It's the pieces you collect along the road, and what you choose to keep or discard. " Despite herself, she was enjoying the argument. It was... a good release.
"But no. I don't think I'll stay here and argue with you, old man." Stretching, the lioness stood and shook out her coat. "I have more situations to get involved in. As do you."
Show her family what she was made of? Eventually. Maybe. But not now. First, she needed to decide what exactly that was.

Her retort to him was amusing, receiving a bit of a smirk before Auron turned, walking from her. He said nothing at that time, but it wouldn't seem as though he was going to let Tara win with -that- logic.
"You think in a straight line of black and white, don't you?" the old lion finally inquired, amused. "Scenerios never have a set response in any which way shape or form. Not everybody will respond in the same way to the exact same thing."
Auron sat back in the grass, keeping his back to Tara.
"There are positive ways to respond to something, negative ways to respond to something. These are how most think of how to respond. However, have you ever been completely indifferent to something?
Indifference is a neutral response and creates the gray area between shades of black and white."
He fell silent again after speaking and again lay in the grass, a yawn escaping from him and making a popping noise in his jaws (a little detail he himself would be the only one able to hear, go figure. )
"Not everybody in life will create scenerios to respond to. Don't you create your own scenerios?"

"No! I do not, thank you!" Sheesh. He just wouldn't see her line of reasoning! Obviously if you were cut and past from experience along the road, you wouldn't be pure white or black! She glared at his back, trying to block the smile from reaching her lips.
"There might not be a set response, but you can certainly ENCOURAGE a response." Not hard at all! Manipulation was the surest way to get someone to do what you wanted them to do. She wasn't naive. Tara snorted. "And everyone is different, of course. So that's why you have to change the scene in order to get the desired response!"
... and she seemed to have lost the thread of the argument. That was interesting. But... well, she'd just continue on anyways. Tara's eyes narrowed as she heard him yawn, breath escaping in a whoosh. What was THAT supposed to mean?
"Indifference is an easy way out of anything. Opinions require effort!" What was the point of life if you didn't care? No point. Exactly. "When I act, I create situations that OTHERS react to. When I react, I'm working on someone else's stage. My life has been a series of these. Everyone is manipulated and pulled, shaped and created by how the ACT and how they REACT."
Oh. Tara was pleased with this new line of reasoning. Which was somewhat circular to their earlier conversation, but that was alright. She smirked and stared at the older lion's back.

"It takes more effort to decide you don't care, however." he stated, his mind seeming to be on a different thought. So everything was cut and paste? No.
"The sun rises. Most will wake up. Did the sun tell them to wake up? No. But the sun still set the scene for one to choose to. It doesn't know any better. A cub sees a grasshopper playing in the grass. That grasshopper is just doing as it always does. It's not asking the cub to do anything."
Auron looked back at Tara. "Just like I'm not asking you to argue with me. You could have told me to go away, you know." He looked away from her again. "Or you could have not aknowledged me to begin with."
"Then again, it seemed as though you had something to say to begin with. But on another note, you didn't trust me at all from the moment I started to speak of my own family and the plight they had on me." Auron seemed to smirk a bit as he spoke, not as though he was mocking someone..
But as though the entire thing had amused him to no end.
"You talked about your mother as if she commit some great against you, without realizing that the one you spoke to, never knew either parent." again, he laughed. "But I'm sure in your own way, you'll meet someone, eventually, who'll trump us both."

God! Everyone kept telling her how she had it easy, how life was good for her. Sure, she wasn't injured, she had both her parents, she was cared for... but! But! Tara had never really had a childhood, never really gotten to know her mother the way she wanted to. She'd never been what she wanted to be!
No one would ever understand. Besides, hadn't he said he HAD parents earlier? "But you said you had parents. I had parents. I had siblings. It isn't that my mother committed a huge sin - she was doing what she thought was right. I committed the sin, for not telling her she was wrong."
Yes, she realized this now. But that didn't mean her life was full of daisies and free food. "But your beliefs won't allow you to see things the way I do. My mother helped shape me into who I am now, and I did nothing to stop it. In the end, I hurt my family worse than she ever hurt me."
Tara looked away. "THAT is what I resent her for most. But you will only tell me that I am myself, and no one had any hand in creating that." She shook her head, her small forelock flopping. "I disagree. The responsibility for my actions NOW is mine. But as a cub, the only example - the only source of leaning - I had, was my mother."
"For what she did to her family through me, I resent her."
Tara waited, resigned, for Auron to rip into her view. But what could she say? That was how she saw things. Suddenly, this argument wasn't quite as amusing.

Auron smirked. "And that's exactly how you should see it. Does my opinion matter?" he inquired, seeming to be amused with how Tara had suddenly snapped at him. The old lion finally corrected the confusion he'd been causing with his cryptic words.
"I was raised by my grandparents under the facade of being their son. Nobody ever told me I wasn't. That was my lifetime lie. I didn't have the choice of objecting to it, because I didn't know any different." Auron continued to stare up at the sky, almost wistfully.
"And though my opinion isn't as hard-set as you may believe, listen to what you just said. You have learned from your mother, but you're saying now you're going to take that and turn it into what you want to be. You're not copying and pasting. You're imitating, improving.
You wanted to be yourself for such a long time, and now.." he finally turned to look at her. "you will be able to, without anybody else's influence. Wouldn't you rather say you became what you will be on your own, and not with anybody else's paw in the mix to influence you?" He rose up to his paws, his muscles groaning at him in exhaustion. He'd been on his paws all day, and they wanted him to go and give them time to sleep already!
"Just because something seems to be one way, doesn't mean you should judge it on such, either. I had to learn that too, once upon a time." Auron thought about this for a moment, before smirking and adding. "But those are just the words of an old guy like me."

Tara scowled. "No, it shouldn't matter. My opinion should matter to me, and no one else's." Of course. So why was it so hard to leave her family behind her? She shouldn't care what they thought of her. But she did. Uuugh. Such a pain! Why couldn't she just get... amnesia or something and forget them all?
"You still had others who loved you then, and raised you as their child. That isn't enough? It's more than some people have." Tara grinned and cocked an eyebrow. Wasn't that what he'd been telling HER all this time?
"Besides, I said no such thing. Not that I won't, mind you." Tara got to her feet and padded a little ways away from the older lion. "My children will be raised the way I feel it's right. If I have children." She wrinkled her nose. Hopefully she wouldn't be cursed with six like her mother was. But if she was, and if they were all girls or all boys or a mixture, she would love them all the same.
Yes. ALL the same. Tara nodded to herself, making an internal pact.
"Anyways. From now on I will be myself - in so far as I react how -I- want to, rather than how I think others think I should. But I will still be reacting or acting based on the events around me. I will create some, and some will be created before I can stop them." She took a deep breath. "But I will be the one who is deciding what to do."
Tara flicked an ear and turned to look over her shoulder at Auron. "Your words might not ease my sleep tonight, because my worries won't be swayed by your philosophies." God, she sounded like a know-it-all. Tara smirked to herself. "But you've helped me a little, old man."
Facing forwards again, Tara stalked off into the dark and back beneath the shadowed eaves of the jungle canopy.
