Amy sighed again. "I wish. I don't like scapels and everything to begin with, but all this dead flesh makes me want to drop out of the class entirely. Unfortunately, my teacher's already told us that we have to make up all missed dissection days, so..."
Amy waved as Lydia came over. "Hey, Lydia!" Amy's smile faded, and her brown eyebrows creased together. She placed a hand on the fifteen-year-old's shoulder. "Are you all right?" Amy asked, leaning forward, her green eyes peering at Lydia's face. "Have you been getting enough sleep the whole past week? Are you sick? You don't look too good at all! What's happened, Lydie?"

"I don't sleep well anymore," she replied with a shrug, trying to avoid meeting anyone's eyes and staring at the ground, the lockers, anything else. "Bad dreams." She breathed in shakily. "Real bad dreams. Can't seem to make 'em go away... I sneaked some meds the other night - just some benadryl, it's harmless and makes you sleepy - but it didn't help. Still had bad dreams."
She chewed on her bottom lip nervously.
"Parents keep telling me it's just part of being a teenager or something and that I'll grow out of it. Kinda sucks, being told that all the time. But can we talk about something cheerful? Like how that one girl from the snobs got busted for smoking in the bathroom yesterday?"

Moira watched the two girls, rubbing her own tired eyes slowly. She didn't sleep so well lately, either, though this Lydia looked... haunted. I hope I don't look like that some day.
"Um... snob? Do you mean one of the Meyers girls?" She knew that Lin and her younger sister were snobbish... she used to be friends with Lin, actually, but only because the girl could practically convince her to do anything. Moira wasn't very decisive and let her friends make choices.

"Oh, I heard about that!" Amy chuckled, shaking her head. "I heard they got a whole group of them. It's not very often they get caught so quickly. It serves them right for smoking in the bathroom right next to the teacher's lounge, though. What in the world were they thinking?"
She pawed around in her backpack. "I've got some sleeping pills around here somewhere, I just know it..."

Lydia laughed softly and cast a nervous glance around.
"Careful," she said to Amy, "You never know what teachers will get crazy over. 'sides, didn't seem to help me any. Maybe if I weren't so timid I'd have more control over what I dream about... heh. I don't like speculating about this..."
She seemed to be talking more to herself again. After a moment she blinked owlishly and snapped out of it.
"I think it was one of the Meyers girls that go busted. I didn't hear all the names - just that it happened. I can just see their parents now." Lydia put her hands together and rolled her eyes upward, mincing her steps together and upping her voice a couple octaves. "Oh no, our daughter would NEVER do something like that! She's such a DARLING."

Moira grinned with a sort of cold satisfaction. "I hope they got expelled... at least suspended. Little brats." She blushed and fiddled with her hair which fell into her eyes. "I should be headed inside... I hope you sleep better. And.. it was nice meeting you. Hope to see you again." She turned and waved gently, then walked inside smiling... It was strange to talk to people again.

"Goodbye, Moira," Amy said, waving to the leaving girl. She turned back to Lydia. "I should probably go too. I don't want to be late for class, you know?" Amy shifted her brown backpack from two shoulders to only one. She gently squeezed Lydia's shoulder. "Take care of yourself, okay? And we can't help what we dream. It's not our faults. I can get you a book on lucid dreaming, though, if you want. It's how to learn to actively control your dreams, manipulate them, if you will. My Uncle Clay's a firm believer in it.
"By the way, that's exactly what I bet their parents'll sound like. Parents are so oblivious to what we do. It's like they live in a whole different world or something." Amy rolled her green eyes, giving Lydia another smile.

“Lucid dreaming?” Lydia said, a bit taken back, “I-I heard of that but… yeah. I’d like to read it. Maybe it’ll help. Thanks. Good luck staying awake in class and I’ll see you at lunch. Let’s try and get Moira to sit with us – she seems nice.”
She turned her head as the first bell sounded and made a face.
“On the upside, not wanting to face my dreams has made it a lot easier to stay awake in math class.”
Lydia slipped into the flood of students trying to reach their classrooms and vanished into her first class of the day.
