"Will you pull for me, 'Lia?" Calla grunted, helping the surprisingly strong old woman crate up the gleaming cargo. No need to advertise the expense being packed away in Kiah Come to all the world. The last thing Calla wanted to encounter was bandits.

Ophelia nodded and without warning grew and twisted into centaur like creature. Calla coughed, hiding a grin. "Maybe something less...noteworthy?"

The Hakon frowned prettily, but obeyed. A strong, jet black mare snorted in place of the centaur, obviously pouting. Calla laughed and stroked the fine hairs running between the horse's unusual green eyes. "Better, sweet, much better. Just hook you up now..."

It was an old trick, honestly. The Hakon was stronger than any horse, and pulling even this crate of what appeared to be solid metal was a task suited to Ophelia. But the horse appearances made the crate seem much lighter and of less importance.

Calla tightened the straps, gave the old woman a kiss on both cheeks and hopped on the Hakon's back with a pleased grin. They pulled the cargo easily through the crowd, forcing it to part like a curtain before them.

Ethan and Wo'Jula looked at each other after the girl ran off. You know what? I'm getting the feeling we should skip the drink and just go get our stuff. That was odd enough for one stop. Wo'Jula nodded, somewhat perplexed by the girl's reaction. I agree. We should go They turned and headed back to the ship, hoping they wouldn't run into any more odd situations.

Calla leapt off the mare's back with a smile, letting her drag it up into Kiah Come's cargo hold. Pleased with the uneventful pick up, she turned to go into the ship as well. The Hakon had already transformed back to human and helped Calla secure the crate with various bars and straps. "Done?"

The pilot nodded. "Yep. We'll wait a bit longer to see if that catgirl wanted to talk business, yeah? Then we're off to...which planet was it again...?" Calla hunted out her PDA sized computer, tapping the screen twice. A list of jobs scrolled along the cracked screen, only slightly warped due to the damage. The Hakon placed a fingertip firmly on one name and another list scrolled by. Another few taps and the description of "Hank's" current job popped up. "Planet Azel? What part?" Calla had been much too busy to register what her current employer had said back at the station. Good thing all orders were instantly picked up by her computer. "...I see. No wonder he didn't want me to go...but what could he possibly be shipping to Azel in such a hurry?"

A lump of uneasiness settled in her stomach. The Hakon merely yawned. "Tired. Are we going soon?"

Calla managed to return to her normal bright smile. "Yeah. Soon. Go ahead and take a nap- I won't go far without you." Ophelia nodded and went off to her own quarters, reverting to her true form halfway there.

Once out of the two's sight, Kira let out a sigh and slowed until she was walking at a regular pace again. Her ears drooped slightly as she stared at the floor, and Shiro scolded her again, his words drifting through her head. Now, what have we learned today? he began, acting as if Kira were a small child, rather than a seventeen year old. She just rolled her eyes, and a smirk passed along his canine face.

She came to a complete stop now, peering silently at her hand and the number written upon it. Then she let out a silent sigh and lifted her face, lightly sniffing the air. Target found, she hurried off through the crowd once more. Pretty soon, she caught sight of the girl from before, and abruptly stopped. Ok. This time she'd think things through, and make a good impression. State her objects rather than rudely ask something personal.

Gathering courage, she finally made her way forward towards the girl she saw standing there, the one from earlier. "Hi," she began, lifting a hand in a half hearted wave. Then she suddenly dunked her head in a low bow, ponytail splitting around her neck. "My name is Kira Pierce, and I was wondering if, maybe, you needed someone to help out with your..." She glanced at the ship, and then looked towards the girl. "...deliveries?" she guessed.

She shifted nervously in place, standing up straight again. "I'm stronger than I look," she added.
Oh, nice. They'll definitely let you aboard because of that, Shiro mocked sarcastically. Kira simply reached up, plucked the tiny dog off of her shoulder, and plopped him into her sweatshirt's pocket, her eyes remaining fixedly upon the girl before her.

Calla continued to smile easily, looking over the girl again with more thought. Another hand would be nice...ICDS didn't mind pilot hiring on extra hands at their own expense, and Calla could afford a reasonable salary. Plus, it'd be nice to have some actual conversations. Ophelia was fairly smart, but bored of most topics quickly.

"My name's Calla Sanford- nice t' meet ya. Well, we could always use some help- it's just my Hakon and me. INCDS does interplanetary work- I can't guarentee when we'll next be back on Earth. That alright with you?"

Kira actually froze for a second, having expected to hear an immediate and harsh 'no'. Instead, she actually got a positive reply. She seemed stunned at first, her eyes slightly wide. But then she grinned broadly, fangs baring as she bobbed her head up and down. "Yes, that'd be great!" she cried happily. Not returning to earth for a while? That was wonderful. Once she got off the planet, she highly doubted her father would be able to track her any more.

Her tail began flicking excitedly behind her, her ears perked upright. "I can do lots of stuff," she promised. "And I won't complain, ever!"
Heh, that won't last long, Shiro piped up. Kira promply smothered the tiny dog in her hand, but not really hurting him. It didn't really do any good though, since he spoke telepathically. I told you I could find someone! Kira thought triumphantly. The tiny dog just rolled his three purple eyes in response.

Calla laughed, instantly taken by the girl. "And who's this?" There was still a twinkle of amusement in her eyes as she regarded the tiny canine in Kira's palm.

Kira paused, and then slowly pulled Shiro out of her pocket, holding him easily in her palm. "This is Shiro," she replied simply. "I found him, a long time ago." Shiro bent his forelegs, so it was sort of kneeling, and bowing his head. His oversized ears stuck out on either side of his head, and the short little tail was wagging lgihtly. It's nice to meet you, he said politely, allowing his thoughts to be heard by both Kira and Calla now. Thank you for allowing Kira to do this. I'll keep her in line for you. Even on his canine face, the smirk was obvious. Kira just wrinkled her nose, glaring at him.

Delighted that he could speak, Calla positively glowed. "A pleasure to meet you! Ooh..." Her face fell into utter seriousness for a moment. "Listen, I don't know what you know about the Hakon so I should warn you two..." Calla hesitated, then gestured that they board the ship while they talked. "Ophelia and I are...well, bonded, I guess you'd say. So she gets jumpy around new people and really defensive if I'm stressed out. So...try not to freak out and yell at me or whatever." She coughed, embarassed that she had to explain so bluntly. "Ophelia takes time to warm up to anyone else, so...don't be too worried if she gives you the cold shoulder at first."
PostPosted: Tue Feb 13, 2007 6:21 pm

Kira frowned at Shiro a second longer, and then looked back at Calla when she began explaining. Kira was actually a little relieved that she was. She honestly wasn't that good with various species and races and what each was. So she made mental note of the warning, and then gave a slight nod of her head. "I don't see why I'd yell at you, after you're letting me come with you," she replied honestly, and then pointed a clawed finger towards herself as a grin spread across her face. "And I wouldn't trust me either," she laughed. "Not right away at least." And then, before Shiro could come up with a sarcastic response, the bopped the small dog lightly on his head, catching him off guard and sucessfully keeping him quiet.

Calla brightened as Kira showed she understood and accepted it. "Yep! It's natural, really...oh, and we're headed to Azel to drop this off. Dunno after that- probably headed back to ICDS' station."

She headed up to the bridge as she talked, encouraging her new crew to follow.

Kira nodded, hesitating just a second before following after her. She felt butterflies in her stomach suddenly, fluttering about enough to make her clamp a hand over her belly. But she quickly dropped it back to her side as she continued on inside. She was excited, yet nervous, this being the first time she'd even set foot on a spacecraft of any kind. She'd had no reason to before, and still didn't have a good one. She simply wanted to get out of here, and explore a bit, see what there was to see. "That sounds good," she replied, a little delayed.

Secretly, Calla was celebrating. Someone who didn't mind going to Azel? And seemed happy just to be working for her? And didn't mind a Hakon onboard? It was amazing luck. She hummed happily, starting up the engines. "Yep! Should take about a day, earthtime, to make it to Azel. Oh!" Calla turned in her seat, slightly flushed. "You didn't even ask about payment! I should have said before we took off- I'm so sorry!"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 13, 2007 6:39 pm

Kira followed her quietly, looking curiously at everything they passed. When she heard the word payment, she echoed it with an almost blank expression. "Pay... ment?" she blinked, and then it suddenly clicked. "O-oh! Right... It's ok." To be honest, Kira had forgotten as well. She'd been too excited to know she was getting out of here, finally. She hadn't even thought about being paid. Though, she guessed it made sense, since she was being hired, or something. Shiro, standing in his regular spot on her shoulder, rolled his three eyes again at Kira's ignorance, but Kira didn't see.

Calla smiled. "Well, how about this- I'll cover your stay on this ship. Food and board's on me, there are a couple rooms back that 'a way." The pilot waved her hand vaguely the way they'd come in. "As for spending money...well, I'll make sure you have enough for a few souviners, ok? I'm not made o' money, but we'll be fairly comfortable." She smiled broadly, hoping her offer would be ok.
