The kindness of this lioness, who was little more than a stranger to her, totally baffled Nzinga. Hadn't her mother always told her that no one in the outside world would ever except her? First Mteuli who invited her in, no questions asked, and then this wise Hasana who seemed to care about her like they were related. Nzinga felt overcome by emotions; her face showed a mixture of amazement, happiness and immense gratitude. For a moment she was so choked up she wasn't even sure what to say. Perhaps this simple kindness was routine for Hasana, but Nzinga had rarely encountered such ready acts of benevolence in her lifetime.
"I thank you. Truly, the fact that you even offered such a thing means so much to me. I would welcome any help you would give." Even just moral support, to have something there with her in such a scary and exciting time, that was important.

It was routine for Hasana. So routine, in fact, that the somewhat naive eyes of the lioness didn't so much look at it as kindness as just something all lions did by nature. She had yet to truly witness how cruel her own kind could be, completely shielded from it as of that moment just by luck. "It's not a problem," she said calmly, nodding to herself. Absently she added, "You sort of remind me of my sister. We weren't born from the same parents. I guess we sort of adopted each other. I haven't seen her in a long time, though."
Daily Hasana would muse how her sibling with a different bloodline was doing. Perhaps one day she would find out by a passing stranger such a lioness had died, and most likely would be devastated.
"We're staying over there." Again, she nodded, but this time in the left direction. "I still have five daughters lingering around, so you should know when you get there. All of them have stripes like mine except for one." And that one would grab a strangers attention quicker than the rest, so it really didn't matter. "So, when you need me, feel free to come visit. I should be going back now. My girls aren't completely grown yet."
She flashed a quick, comforting smile to her new friend, then headed back to her troublesome children and her probably sleeping mate.
