Flashes of the Unclimbable Cliff and the Secret of the Water flashed through the older lioness' mind. Although she realized that it was most likely not a secret magical world that lay beyond the wall, she did still wonder what was there. And if she could learn to fly...
"You mean, you would teach me?" Tara eyed him skeptically. Sure, maybe those wings of his worked enough to get him off the ground, but her? She would be on her own, right?
"I'm a good runner, if you don't want to, you know." She stated. "I can keep up with you."
If it was a challenge he was after, she could provide that too. She grinned, a flash of white teeth against her dark black pelt.

Katana'k chuckled and shook his head, "I'm afraid I can't teach you to fly if you are not an immortal, even though some immortals without wings may fly, unfortunately for you my dear, you do not have the magic running through your veins. However, if you wanted, instead of running, perhaps I could give you a lift there?"
He unfolded his wings a bit more, they were larger then his brother, which made him happy, which also meant if she wished to, she could be upon his back, and he could carry her. Though he was not the god of strength, his pride made him strong. He'd be able to easily carry her if she wished.

She stared at him doubtfully, worried about slipping off of his back and plummeting to the ground. Not something she was particularily interested in experiencing. But flight... wouldn't that be a story? Shivering slightly from fear or excitement, she nodded.
"Alright. But... how will you carry me? I'm not that small." And she didn't really want to be snatched up in his claws like a piece of meat. Maybe he was stronger than he looked though.
Cautiously she approached, and couldn't help but be awed by the size of his wings. They glimmered under the midday sun like the wings of ravens, or like her own black coat. At least, when it wasn't covered in dust. She wished she'd cleaned up a little before coming out here.
Her self conciousness was soon forgotten, however, in the excitement before the ride.

Katana'k smiled, crouched down low to the ground, "Oh don't worry about that, I won't let you fall, I promise," he said with a sincere smile. Yes, he would not let her fall. It was nice just being in her company, he would never let that happen to her.
He would rather take a hit then have her receive one.
He flicked his tail and lowered himself enough so that she could climb upon his back. Sure she wasn't a cub, but he was still a lot bigger then she was, plus, he wasn't sure if she noticed or not. But he did have an extra pair of wings.
He wouldn't let her fall...ever.
"Ready?"

Still uncertain, but willing to take the risk, Tara stalked over to him and climbed onto his back as gracefully as she could. She winced when her paws seemed to dig into his back, and she tried to balance as well as she could. Eventually, she just had to lay down and hope she didn't slide off.
"Alright, I'll trust you." Even if it was a little late for that.
She took a deep breath, but her eyes were wide and sparkling with excitement. Flying was something only birds did! Lions weren't supposed to. But... maybe this time it would be alright.
"Yes!" She nearly shouted in her excitement. "I'm ready!"

Katana'k smiled to himself. At least he could make someone happy that he was around. It seemed sometimes he only brought darkness to places he went. Never before had a mortal lioness have so much pride in their bodies as Tara did. So brave for her age. He knew she would do just fine in this world.
As she settled herself, he stood up slowly, stretching out his wings, peering back at her with white eyes, "If you feel the need to grab onto something, grab onto this," he said making a gesture to his neck, "Just not the wings alright?"
He then turned his eyes to the sky, towards the direction in which the water lay, and began padding forward slowly, soon his step had a bounce in it as he flapped his wings on his back, big and black and he jumped into the wind. He flapped his wings harder to get a little way from the ground, and then unfolded the wings upon his forearms to better steady himself.
They would be there rather soon this way...he hoped she'd enjoy it.

The initial jump nearly scared a shriek out of her, and she scrambled for purchase. Remembering his request she snatched at his neck, wrapping her paws (claws sheathed) and holding on for dear life.
Once they got off the ground, however, and into the breeze... it was wonderful. Tara stared in awe as the ground dropped away and the horizon broadened. Never before had she known the land was so... vast. And so beautiful!
Her eyes watered as wind wipped by and she tucked her head next to his shoulder, peering down at the earth from over his paws. How amazing. Her heart ached with the beauty of it all...
But she saw the glimmer of the water hole in the sun and her heart sank. It was just a short distance away and approaching too fast! She opened her eyes wide, casting glances all around her, determined to save this ride in her memory forever.

Katana'k grinned to himself as he flapped his wings lightly, less then he usually would. He didn't want to knock her off balance or anything, that wouldn't be a very good idea. Though when she wrapped her paws by his neck it did take him by surprise, he wasn't sure at the beginning if she would grab onto him at all for support, she seemed strong on her own.
The glimmer of the water pool from the sun had him fold in his back wings a bit and fully extend the wings on his forearms, letting him fall on those, glide downward without having to use his back wings. The wind rushed by his armor which gave him a bit of a chill, but then it faded not long afterwards as they were closer to the ground.
He didn't speak a word while they flew, he figured it would ruin it. He always wondered what it was like for mortals who immortals helped 'fly,' what their first flight felt like to them. Strange how he wondered about these things, he blamed his brother for it. He dipped closer to teh earth and soon his paws hit the ground, throwing some dust into the air, then he came to a stop and pulled all of his wings against himself, for the ride was over, and before them both was a crystal clear pool of water.
"Here you are..."

Tara gasped slightly as he started the descent towards the pool. She was glad she was pressed so closely to his side - gravity pulled her forwards and she felt herself starting to loose her balance. Ears flat she clung on and tried to get the rythm of his wingbeats.
Somehow, she still felt safe. Somehow, she knew he wouldn't let her fall. She trusted him.
Dust flew up in her face and she was thrown forwards slightly as his paws hit the hard african earth. Coughing, she slid off his back and sat slightly dazed in the dry grass. That had been so... amazing. And she would probably never get to do it again. That didn't mean she couldn't find another god someday though.
Maybe even meet up with this 'Pride' again. She smiled.
"Thank you." Standing shakily the lioness padded forwards to the pool and lapped at the cool water.

Katana'k gave her a smile from his maw, nodded his head somewhat, "Was my pleasure," though he doubted he would do that for another anytime soon. Yes, he was a god, but even he ahd his limits. The weather had been favorable today, though usually others days it was not. It was an unusual occurrence, but no less, he seemed to have made her somewhat happy.
He wondered what it must have felt like, to not know flight, then be able to see everything from above.
Must've been breath taking he figured. She was interesting, no doubt someday she would make someone very happy.

Tara smiled back at him. "Even if you are a god -" She smirked, " -your wings must still get tired."
She stood from the edge of the waterhole and stretched. The water tasted so good! So fresh and clean. It could be hard to find spots like that in the jungle, and it was all too easy to muddy the water.
"Thanks for the ride, but I'll walk back. It's not too far." Tara grinned and flipped her tail. "Even if I -am- a mortal."
She wondered if anyone would believe her. The second god (not god, winged lion, she reminded herself) she'd met in such a short time! And this time she got the gift of flight, not a lecture. The black and white female smiled to herself. This was by far the better deal.
"It was nice meeting you, Pride." She bowed her head slightly.

"Just because your mortal does not ever mean you are to be considered less then those like me, even if immortals say that, its just to hide their jealously for a mortal life at times," he said with a smirk and a slight chuckle. He did that sometimes, tried to make himself look better then mortals, though sometimes he did long for a simpler life. Who knew, one day perhaps he might get a simpler life then this. Though only time would tell.
"It was also nice meeting you Tara, I hope we cross paths again..." he said with a nod and a bow. He flicked his tail and then turned, glanced over his shoulder to look at Tara once more, and assured himself he might see her again.
"She's a feisty one..I wonder how she'll change as time ages her...I hope her pride stays with her always... he mused as he began to pad to the open-ness of the rogue territory. He felt a calling somewhere, something, someone was pulling him. His brother...
Oh yes, he'd find him soon.
Perhaps then, he could seek out Tara after he found his brother, and settled the score.

Tara shrugged. "Mortal or immortal, it doesn't matter how long you live. What matters is HOW you live." She grinned. "Of course, that's coming from one who hasn't lived much at all."
Hopefully she'd get out soon. She wanted to see the world! Live in it, act in it, meet everyone she could! Not be stifled in the dark, dank jungle. ... she should get home. They would be missing her soon.
"I'll look forward to meeting you again, then." Without a backwards glance she set off towards the distant line of trees, dark against the bleached blue african sky. It was hot and the land was dry, but the trek would strengthen her. Surely in the future she would travel greater distances...
There must be SOMETHING more for her, out here.
