Exactly. wink
Too bad Thomenn left though.. I haven't heard the new BG after his departure but I honestly don't think the band can be all the same (I'm a drummer myself so I can tell if it's a different player rolleyes ) because Thomen's drumming made it quite distinctive - and if the new drummer even tries to copy the drumming style, it'd make it even worse for me!

I wouldn't say he tries to copy Thomenn's style, but there is a bit of influence. And like I've stanted, ATITM, is probably one of their best albums yet.

Chaos A.D. what the hell? blind guardian is power metal, not progressive, they're closer to folk metal than prog Read the first page please, We've gone through this discussion. They ARE power metal, but have Progressive influences, and have had some progressive albums. As i have said, progressive is not only a genre, but a description of a sound, like Maiden has some progressive sounds in some songs.

The whole discussion over what is progressive and what is not is sometimes silly. I don't think BG is progressive metal but then I don't think Ayreon (though many people say its proge) is either. What makes a band progressive anyway?
Having a nice 7/8 from time to time?
I mean, are bands like Pagan's Mind, Symphony X, or Shaman really proge - even if they say they are?.. I call them powermetal and that's it. They may have progressive elements to their music but I wouldn't call them progressive metal as such.
Well anyway, yeah.. I wouldn't call BG proge but I don't call them powermetal either because their style is quite distinctive from other powermetal bands. Don't really know what to call but just BG. rolleyes

progressive/power metal?
calling bands progressive is very hard, harder then saying a band i power of death.. most of the time the experimental or technical stuff is progressive or has progressive elements.

Yeah, that's what I say... If someone has a progressive sound such as Blind Guardian, then they are worth mentioning in this guild. And a lot of Power Metal bands have progressive sounds and elements, so why not mention them here. And Blind Guardian is definitely experimental. No one has their sound, and they are totally original. It is hard to classify them, so lets not.

And a lot of Power Metal bands have progressive sounds and elements, so why not mention them here. And Blind Guardian is definitely experimental. No one has their sound, and they are totally original. It is hard to classify them, so lets not. Exactly. whee If I came out wrong, let me clarify that I didn't mean bands like BG or power metal bands with progressive elements shouldn't be mentioned in this guild. If we were to take them out and stick with bands "purely progressive" we would be left with a small number of bands to discuss. And yeah, discussion as to "what is proge" is as silly and trivial as "what is true evil black metal and what is not". rolleyes In total, I wouldn't even say "progressive metal" is really a genre of music. I mean, DT and POS are both "progressive metal" but their sound is totally different as is their approach. Progressive metal can fall under basically any major genre in metal. Thus you have progressive power metal, progressive death metal, etc. And yeah, BG is quite unique in their field of music, better not be too exact on finding a definition to their style. It's BG to me and everyone who knows BG knows what I'm talking about, enough for me. wink

My thoughts exactly, you just found better words... gonk
As to Chaos A.D, the only reason I didn't totally flame him is because I'm a mod here and I think mods should follow rules... I wasn't happy, actually I was pissed... I think I was polite and explanatory. I would ussually put something to the effect of "Read the first F***ing page dumb***! If you can't figure that out, then go stick your head in a F***ing fire!" but I have moved past that, and am feeling very kind lately... I should stop, it entertains me to type like that. I know it's wrong, but it is sooooo fun. I'm actually the "Official" Flamer in my friend's shop. Quite an honor really... Not that I'm mad at him, I'm just saying that I'm past the whole flaming randomly thing, I hold nothing against him. Anyone who posts in this guild rocks.

Oh, of course. I know they are Power metal. Of course. I just don't like the "What the Hell" part. But I see where you are coming from, they are definitely one of the Best Power Metal bands out there.
