Name: Kimarie/Kimmy/Myth
Age when diagnosed: 16
Bipolar/Non-bipolar: Bipolar
History: I would throw fits in class that would end with me either hurting myself or someone else. I was sent to the office and kept there after attempting to drown myself in the girls' bathroom during recess in 6th grade, and then sent back again when I told a teacher off in an inappropriate way. The school counseler last year sent a report to a nearby doctor and he/she sent back a test that I had to take to be sent back. Voila. They still refuse to medicate me though due to my "mental instability".
How did you deal with it at first?: Self injury; cutting, bruising, I would talk to imaginary friends and hide in the cardboard box that a refrigerator came in and called it my true home.
How has it affected your social life?: A lot of people don't know so they think I act this way for fun or attention, and they don't understand me when I try to describe what bipolar is and what it does to people.
What were your friends and families first reactions?: My mom thinks its all for attention, she was only in medical school enough to be an LPN at a nursing home so she doesn't believe that bipolar is in teenagers and children. She seems to think its God's way of punishing me for being bisexual and self-harming.
How's life going for you now?: Not too good, but there are moments when it all goes away when I pass out due to my sincompy (disorder which causes dizzy spells)
What is the hardest part of being bipolar?: When people think its not a real disorder or when the people feel like they can't socialize with someone who can't really control their feelings.
