DyslexicSquirrel I would so do this, becuase I like actually being able to talk to people about books I'm reading, but I've read books by Phillips before and they didn't really capture my attention. ): Maybe the next book will be more my style. Hope everyone else enjoys this month's book, though! Well, when this book was chosen nobody was caring enough to object. I took it as #100 on the list of Top Romances for 2004. I figured we'd go through that list because the books should be easy to get for people. If you've got better suggestions feel free to bring them up in the Book Club thread. Like I said, I was just making something happen.

First, I have to confess that after the sixth chapter I couldn't put the book down, I just had to find out what happened next... and I was curious as to who Lilly was to Kevin...
Week One:
* Did the first couple of chapters hold your interest?
From the description I wasn't sure I would be interested in it, but once I started the first chapter I couldn't help but keep reading.
I tend to read more historical and paranormal romances that I sometimes forget that there are other good romance novels out there.
* What kept you reading?
My curiosity. I wanted to find out how Molly and Kevin's relationship turned out, how they deal with their issues, and how each character introduced ties together.
* Do you like the Author's writing style?
I've read books where the author's writing style was so easy to read I felt like I was reading an elementary school book (minus the adult rated content), or the author used the same expressions and phrases over that I just want to throw the book across the room... but the style Phillips used wasn't like that at all, sure it was an easy read but it flowed together so well and I liked the way she described things (I could actually envision some scenes down to the colors and smells).
Adding snippets from the Daphne books were so cute (I liked how Molly wrote stories from her experiences and gave life to characters from people she knew).
* Are you able to identify with the characters in any way?
I could identify with Molly the most. Like when she goes through her restless periods where she does something completely out of character - I've done that some myself (except I don't give off a warning like change my hair before it happens). I could also relate to her longing for a great "love story" in her life and how she's trying to live up to certain standards.
* Which character annoys you the most and why?
None of the character's annoyed me until further in the book... I'll keep that to myself for now.
* Do you think the story has a promising start and are you looking forward to the next couple of weeks?
I think it had a very promising start since I couldn't put it down until the last page was turned.
* Are you finding it easy to read or are you pushing yourself to read?
I liked this book a lot, there were a couple of places that made me teary and some that made me giggle. I actually recommended it to my mom to read ^_^

*is on chapter 4* ^^; I finally picked it up last night and really couldn't put it down rofl but my eyes were shutting on me and I had to go to school this morning emo Oh. And I was listening to the audio while reading the book, and the audio left out some stuff sad it was disapointing XD so now it looks like I'm going to have to read the whole thing the old fashioned way XD cause It'll bug me if I know I'm missing stuff D:
So far I think I associate most with Hannah ^^;

taligator I wasn't offended, I was just making a statement of fact. I'm more than interested in having someone else provide suggestions but that isn't happening. Before I even noticed that the book club was going on, it had already started. But most of the books I'm reading now are ones that are being released (or have been released) this year or are new books in series that are on-going. If I read a book, I buy it. So I don't usually like to buy a book, and possibly waste the money, if it doesn't sound like something I'd like. There are a number of books on the list that sound good (and a few I've already read). Just not this one. SEP's style isn't really one I enjoy too much.

So I finally got to finishing chapter six redface
* Did the first couple of chapters hold your interest? Very much so ^^
* What kept you reading? Wanting to know what happened next...
* Do you like the Author's writing style? Not my *favourite* but it was pretty good ^^ I hate it when I pick up a large book, open it, and figure out that I don't understand what the heck is going on due to the language used - -; (being a young highschool student after all XD) but this was plesent ^^ It also didn't seem like I was reading something made for a 10 year old XD which was also nice ^^ I loved the snippets of Daphne Stories and couldn't help but laugh about the one titled "Daphne's Nervous Breakdown" on the first page of chapter 7.
* Are you able to identify with the characters in any way? Though most are likely to say Molly, I'm going to have to say Hannah... even if she's pretty much descirbed as a mini-me version of Molly! Somewhat reciently I've been crushing on older guys - -; and I love how she has a childs innocence in her while still managing to be a hopeless romantic
* Which character annoys you the most and why? Probably that random actor from Lace Inc... the one celibrating her 50tb... she just seems like the kind of person that would be annoying for some reason ^^;
* Do you think the story has a promising start and are you looking forward to the next couple of weeks? Definately... even if I'm a little behind XD but with so much covered in a short section of the book, it's hard to imagine (or at least for me ^^; ) what could go on for the next couple hundred pages...
* Are you finding it easy to read or are you pushing yourself to read? very easy to read... once I actually got around to picking it up ^^;

Week Two:
* This story deals with a lot of "real life" type issues such as unrequited loved, struggling to make the ends meet, overprotective families, etc. How do you think that makes the book stronger? Or does it make it weaker?
It makes it stronger because it's reality brought into fiction. At some point in a person's life they experience one of the issues a character in a book is going through, so it's easier to relate to them. I think part of what makes a strong book is when the reader can relate in some way to a character or story.
* Do you like the changing points of view or would you rather have the book solely from one point of view? For example, the book alternates between being from Molly's point of view and later on, from Kevin's (even later on someone else).
I've always liked books where the author used different points of view because you can find out more information about a situation or character.
* Do you think that having multiple points of view helps you to understand the characters better or does it just make the book longer?
I like long books =) but I do believe that multiple views help bring out a character.
* What has been your favorite part of the book so far? Least favorite?
My favorite part(s) of the book are when Molly tries to get rid of Kevin's boredom when at the campground, by doing things that seem out of character for her. My least favorite parts were with Lilly and the artist, I'm not sure why (maybe it was just it went into a little more detail with their romance then I would have liked... don't know)
* Have you had any 'what the hell?' kind of moments so far - meaning things you have no idea WHY the author wrote what they did?
There was that scene when Lilly was getting painted, maybe my imagination is just a little too vivid...
Week Three:
* It was at this point in the book that I was getting antsy for things to be resolved. I was tired of the cat & mouse game and just want the two to get together and stop dorking around. Did anyone else feel this way?
Yes! I was wondering how things would turn out after the big fight and when Kevin would finally come around.
* What did you think about the secondary love story? Should it have been included?
Personally, I would have been fine without it. I think it's great that Lilly was able to find love after her previous marriage and stuff, but I think it took a little away from the main love story.
* Open discussion ...
Man, I wish I could find a guy that would bring a different side of me out lol. Like when Molly does the adventurous things with Kevin - I'm too scared to get on a roller coaster, much less jump off a cliff into a body of water, but I really want to do things like that... if that makes sense. sweatdrop

Hi guys - sorry I haven't been keeping up with this thread. Work has been busy and when I get home the last thing I want to do is go back onto Gaia (no offense!).
I'll update the questions on the last week of the club ...

* This story deals with a lot of "real life" type issues such as unrequited loved, struggling to make the ends meet, overprotective families, etc. How do you think that makes the book stronger? Or does it make it weaker? I guess it makes it stronger because it makes it have more substance... not just some out of the blue extremely obviously ficitonal piece of writing. Never really thought of it till now though ^^;
* Do you like the changing points of view or would you rather have the book solely from one point of view? For example, the book alternates between being from Molly's point of view and later on, from Kevin's (even later on someone else). Personally I usually like the alternating point of view. It gives you a chance to see characters more in depth, and gives you glances into things you wouldn't see if you were only following one person. I really loved the teen book "Leap Day" for that reason
* Do you think that having multiple points of view helps you to understand the characters better or does it just make the book longer? kind of both? XD I'm going to go for the first though
* What has been your favorite part of the book so far? Least favorite? Even though I love art, for some reason I'm not too fond of the artist :S I love the Daphne story inserts and the part about Sarah. My least favourite part would probably be when Lilly Sherman was sitting in the resturaunt, thinking about her past.
* Have you had any 'what the hell?' kind of moments so far - meaning things you have no idea WHY the author wrote what they did? hum, might have had a 'what the heck?' moment XD but I can't really remember any off the top of my head... probably cause I read when I should be sleeping which makes me more likely to forget things ^^;
I wish I could read more D: but noooo, Lord of the Flies comes first cause it's for school rolleyes I'm trying to get through it as close as possible to the weeks that have been set ^^;

oh geez. so apparently I'm supposed to have finished the book right now redface and I *would* have... if it weren't for the fact that I had to read something for English class ^^; took up my reading time D:
* It was at this point in the book that I was getting antsy for things to be resolved. I was tired of the cat & mouse game and just want the two to get together and stop dorking around. Did anyone else feel this way? Actually? I really enjoyed this book to the point that it could go on for virtually ever and I'd be happy XD I was anxious to find out what would happen next, but I wasn't really pushing for it. I figured it would come eventually...
* What did you think about the secondary love story? Should it have been included? I wasn't too fond if it myself, but when you think about the fact that I didn't like either of the characters in the secondary love story all that much... well, you could kind of predict that I wasn't bound to like it XD All of the book I could picture in my mind, but for some reason, his house seemed a bit foggy to me... maybe just cause I wasn't completely into it ^^; Though I do admit to the fact that I liked the inclusion of art within the book ^^; since I guess you could consider that to be one of the things I really enjoy - along with romance novels of course ^^; Though I'm more willing to admit the first XD
* Open discussion .. aw, I kind of felt bad for Kevin when the boy left him for his friends, he was so into it ^^; and yay! Hannah's back <3 If I was Molly I'd feel awful... realizing that she actually was in love with him, no longer just a crush. It appears as if part of him feels the same way... or he could be there for the sex - -; but I'm going for the first XD especially considering he has his career at stake (which he loves so much) I just wonder how it's going to end Oo (which I *should* know by now XD XD)

Astica - I also liked the bit with Kevin playing football with the boy. I thought that scene was incredibly cute.
I think it gave Kevin a taste of what it could have been like if Molly had carried the baby to full term.

Astica- yeah that was hilarious, he finally figured out he'd been played by molly and Hannah, that was fun. I loved the fact that in the bool Molly was righting children's books, it added a sentimental value or maybe thats not the word for it, but I don't know how to word it. But I could apply that, because I'm making short comics about my days and my spin on what happens in it XD. I draw and write everything...well maybe I don't draw/write everything about my days in it, but their funny.
