Well, its not necessairly that the security is stupid. Even if the gun is a toy, if it looks like it has the potential to shoot anything whether it be nerf darts or water, it could still pose a hazard to the public. Water guns can hold other liquids besides water, some of which could cause harm, and if you shoot someone in the eye with a nerf dart it could hurt, and you could get into trouble if you're "attacking" the rest of the public. Use common sense when cosplaying in both convention settings and the real world.

Use common sense when cosplaying in both convention settings and the real world. its not that i dont have common sense. ive seen kids and even teenagers walking around the mall with toy guns. and ours were green and when you pull the trigger it makes a click sound -_- at first i was annoyed and wanted to leave but i thought about my girlfriend and she really wanted to see the movie. i can show you the picture from that day and the guns we had but i dont have a scanner anymore.

At Jrock Con, I ran into the middle of a wedding reception that was going on down the hall from out con space, and I requested to be the bride.
Mind you I was all japanese-fashioned out. xDDD From their faces, you would've think the devil had just dropped by.

I was at Nan Desu Kan(colorado anime convention) last year dressed as alucard from hellsing, but for some reason people kept confusing me for beyond the grave from gungrave
