CHAKRA

Chakra can best be described as power or energy a ninja needs in order to perform techniques. It is probably the most important element in fighting for ninjas. Chakra consists of two main parts, the body energy and spiritual energy. Body energy can be tapped into from the cells in your body. The faster your cells move around in your body the more energy you have. Body energy provides strength for a ninja's mind. Spiritual energy is usually acquired from certain experiences in training or battle. Spiritual energy can be best described as an adrenaline rush or extra burst ofenergy. This may come in handy when a ninja is very tired and worn out.

Controlling, Building, and Protecting!
Controlling chakra during battle is one of the most important aspects in fighting. Another important part is to being able to build chakra to perform techniques. Building chakra is essential if you want to perform Genjutsu and Ninjutsu techniques correctly. Stamina also plays a big part in this. In order to create chakra you must convert it from stamina. When you perform techniques you not only release chakra but also stamina. Being unable to control your chakra can end up being deadly. If you release too small of an amount, the technique you tried to perform will fail. If you use too much chakra you may end up severely hurting or killing yourself. A ninja must have a certain amount of chakra in their body to live.

Circulatory System
In addition to the circulatory system in your body to transfer blood, ninjas also has a circulatory system to transport chakra. Instead of having veins and arteries, chakra is transported from certain pipes and passage ways. Chakra is released by traveling through this system and out. Since the chakra circulatory system goes around many important organs, when the circulatory system is attacked and damaged your organs may be damaged as well. There are 361 openings in the chakra circulatory system in your body. This opening is called the Tenketsu. When the Tenketsus are blocked you will be unable to perform any techniques. The Byakugan has the ability to neutralize all the holes so chakra cannot flow. It is very important to protect yourself from these types of attacks.

Chakra Gates
Chakra gates are gates in the body that are used as limiters for chakra. They regulate the flow of chakra thoughout a person's body to prevent someone from going beyond his/her body's control. But by using a move like the Primary Lotus, which opens 3 gates, the user can release some of the limits on the body. This means the body can move at a much higher rate and with more power. Opening a gate increases chakra flow temporarily, but by doing this, it means the user puts an incredible amount of force on his/her body which can result in massive injury. There are 8 gates in a body. If all 8 are opened, the body no longer has any limits and can move as fast as it wants. But opening all 8 gates is often fatal and depending on the move, it can kill the user.

Chakra Types
There are five different types of chakra: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Lighting. The Uchiha clan tends to have the fire type of chakra, although Sasuke can use both lightning and fire. Kakashi is of the lightning type. Naruto is of the wind type. Most Jounin can use at least two types of chakra. Using two types of chakra at the same time is often a result of a bloodline limit. For Haku, he used water and wind types to create ice. Yamato uses earth and water to create wood. To find out the type of chakra a ninja uses they use paper from a tree that feeds off of chakra. If the paper splits you're type of chakra is wind, if it bursts into flames yours is fire, gets soggy its of water, the papper crumples if you are of lightning, and it turns to dust if you are of earth chakra.

THE CHUNIN EXAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Chuunin exam is a test to determine which ninja is skilled enough to be ranked as a Chuunin. This event is held twice a year. The only basic requirement is that you have completed a minimum of 8 missions. This Chuunin exam is considered a substitute "war" between the villages to reminisce the wars between ninjas long ago. The Chuunin exam is basically a competition of all the rising ninjas within each village to show off each and everyone's skills and talents. The type of events for each exam varies depending on which village it's held in. In the Chuunin exam held in the Leaf Village, there are three main portions.

The Written Exam
This is the first part to the Chuunin exam. You have 1 hour to complete a 10 question test. The first 9 questions are given while the last one is hidden. The 10th question is not revealed until there is 15 minutes left in the test. You start out with 10 points. For each question you get wrong you lose a point. The maximum score you can get is 10. You lose points if you are caught cheating. Your overall score is averaged between your group members. Each group consists of three ninjas.

The Forest of Death
In this portion of the exam you start out with a scroll. It is either the Earth or Heaven scroll. The objective of this mission is to collect the other scroll and find your way to the tower. You must collect the other scroll by defeating and taking it away form another team. No one knows which team has which scroll nor who is keeping it. The only possible way to cheat in this test is to open the scroll before you are suppose to. If you do this then you will be stunned by a spell in the scroll. If one of your team members die then your whole team loses.

The Preliminaries/The Tournament
The preliminaries is basically the early rounds of the tournament to keep the amount of contestants low. Contestants are randomly chosen to fight one another until around half of them are out. The main tournament is just the same as the preliminaries except the competition is much more tough. Every ninja is randomly selected to fight another ninja. The victor will advance to the next round until there is one person left. Ultimately, the Jounins choses the Chunnin based on how they have performed.

THE WORLD OF NARUTO!!!



Every country is named or associated with a certain type of element. Fighters who come from one of those countries usually have special techniques that have to do with their respected element. In the series of Naruto, only 4 main countries are really recognized. These countries are Fire, Water, Sound, and Earth.

THE FIGHTING STYLES OF THE GENIN/CHUNINS/JOUNINS!!!!

In the series of Naruto, every ninja is unique. Each has a specific way of fighting or strategy to win. Below are some detailed descriptions of some of the ninja's fighting styles. The information is organized by the Genin teams.

Hatake Kakashi's Team
Uzumaki Naruto - Naruto does not use a favorite fighting style though he leans toward Ninjutsu. His Taijutsu move is his Uzumaki Naruto Combo (a combination Kage Bunshin and a copy of renge). Also when Naruto is in predicaments, he likes to use the Kuchiyose No Jutsu (Summoning technique). It allows him to summon a huge frog for his aid. Usually he just uses a lot of combos with his Kage Bunshin (Shadow Replication), which is his most used technique. Naruto was also uses a very powerful attack called the Rasengan. After the time skip, Naruto's fighting style does not change by much. He is able to control is chakra better and also use the Rasengan attack. He relies heavily on the Kyubi chakra inside of him and as a side effect, he begins to lose control after the third tail is released. Naruto also created a new augmentation to the Rasengan which is more power than the original.

Uchiha Sasuke - He is the Genin Leader of this group and the genius that has the blood of the famous Uchiha clan. He uses his Sharingan to copy any move used against him. This gives him various fighting styles. He favors Ninjutsu over the others, though he has great Taijutsu skills like Rock Lee. Under the teaching of Orochimaru, Sasuke increases his speed and power. He also learns new attacks such as the Chidori Nagashi.

Haruno Sakura - She has great chakra control so she can deal a fair amount of damage to the opponent by transferring chakra to her hand. She is a Genjutsu expert and can see through almost all Genjutsu techniques. Despite her capabilities, she is thought of as the weakest of her team. Sakura spends a lot of time with Tsunade to become a powerful medical ninja. She has the ability to use her full power of her hands because she wears a special type of glove that helps her control the power.

Maito Gai's Team
Hyuuga Neji - A genius of the branch family of the Hyuuga Clan. He uses the Jyuuken fighting style, which is the strongest Taijutsu in all of Konoha. One of his strongest Taijutsu attacks is the Divination Field, which delivers 64 consecutive strikes to his opponent. Neji also uses his Byakugan to detect the chakra points of his opponents so he knows the areas to attack. Later on, Neji increases his control over chakra so he is able to launch it from an even longer distance. He also makes some variations to his fighting style.

Rock Lee - Since he can't do any Ninjutsu or Genjutsu techniques, Rock Lee uses Taijutsu to fight. Rock Lee favors to use the Renge style when in battle. Usually Rock Lee tries to beat his opponents from his speed and quickness advantages. After the time skip, Rock Lee, with training from Gai, is able to open more gates and also hit with more force.

Tenten - She is one of the best female Genin. She can hit a target in the same place a hundred times. She specializes in weapons and has a Ninjutsu attack called Rising Twin Dragons that launches an array of attacks at her enemies. She is a strong competitor for the 2nd strongest female Genin in Konoha. Tenten later on learns to summon many more weapons at once.

Yuuhi Kurenai's Team
Aburame Shino - He is the genius of the Aburame clan, which use Kikai bugs as deadly weapons. He lets the bugs feed on his chakra and then orders them to fight using his mind. The bugs then suck up an opponent's chakra, making sure the opponent can never fight again. Sometimes if the opponent refuses to give up the bugs will kill the opponent.

Hyuuga Hinata - She is also of the Hyuuga Clan, but she is from the more elevated class - the Head Family. Hinata can use the Byakugan and fights in the same Jyuuken style as Neji, but much weaker. Hinata likes to follow Naruto's fighting style and she earns a lot from his style of fighting.

Inuzuka Kiba - He smells like a dog, looks like a dog, and acts like one. Guess what? He also fights like a dog. But that doesn't mean he isn't strong. His drawbacks are that he is too bossy and impatient. He packs power when he uses his Gujyuu Ninpou Shijayaju no Jutsu (Beast Mimicry Technique) and his combo with Akamaru using food pills, which double their chakra for a while and use an attack called Gatsuuga, or Double Fang Destroyer!

Sarutobi Asuma's Team
Yamanaka Ino - She is the strongest female ninja in Konoha. Her technique, Shinteshin No Jutsu (Mind Stealing Technique) has been past down in her family from generation to generation. Using it, she becomes a worthy opponent to watch out for in battle.

Nara Shikamaru - He knows only one technique but its a good one. Ninpou, Kage Mane no Jutsu! (Ninja Technique, Shadow Mimicry). His whole clan specializes in these techniques which have been past down from generation to generation. It allows him to make his opponent imitate him. He has an IQ of over 200 that allows him to think at a lightning fast speed and use the surrounding landscape to his advantage.

Akimichi Choji - He likes eating and is fat, so this why Baika No Jutsu (Double Weight Technique) and "Meat Tank" is perfect for him. It allows him to turn into a huge ball and smash his opponents! Choji's technique has been passed down by his clan, which specializes in size changing techniques and special food pills.

THE HOKAGES!!!!

1st Hokage

Name: Unknown (Referred to as Shodaime)
Strengths: Herculean Strength, Secret tree Jutsu
Family Members: The 2nd Hokage (Brother), Tsunade (Granddaughter), and Nawaki (Grandson)
Students: Sarutobi the 3rd Hokage (Deceased), Homura, and Koharu the Hokage's advisors
Info: Sixty years ago, Shodaime led a group of Shinobi to a lush forestland and founded the village of Konoha. Unfortunately during that chaotic era, he passed away shortly after the creation of the village. He later returned in the series when Orochimaru resurrected him using the Impure World Resurrection (Kyuchiyose Edo Tensei) and was forced to fight his former disciple. The 3rd had to stop his former teacher and used the 4th’s Demonic Soul Seal (Fuuinjutsu Shiki Fuujin) sealing his soul into one of his kage bushins. With this Jutsu whoever’s soul is sealed will suffer for all eternity in the belly of the Shikigami never gaining release, hating each other and battling for all of eternity. Shodai’s fighting style is a direct one, preferring to attack the opponent head on in hand to hand combat rather than attack from a distance or rely on Jutsus to do his dirty work. Sadly because of this we only see him use one Jutsu, but what a Jutsu it is. The Secret Tree Element Technique: Birth of the Trees (Mokuton Hijutsu, Jukai Koutan), is a secret technique that (allegedly) only he could use and it is sad that a number of the large trees growing in Konoha were created with this technique. By using his chakra as a source of life Shodai can cause massive trees to grow exponentially fast as well as control their movement whilst they grow. This is particularly useful for ensnaring opponents or wrecking buildings and is truly one of the coolest Jutsus ever. When Orochimaru discovered that only those with the bloodline of the 1st Hokage could control Bijuu he decided to break into the grave of the 1st and steal his DNA. He then implanted the DNA into 52 test children. Only one survived as a clone of the 1st and his name was Yamato.


2nd Hokage

Name: Unknown (Referred to as Nidaime)
Strengths: Genjutsu, Water Style Jutsus, Agility
Family Members: The 1st Hokage (Brother), Tsunade (Granddaughter), and Nawaki (Grandnephew)
Students: The co-founder and creator of the Leaf Village he was the 2nd Hokage for the Leaf Village. He is the younger brother of the 1st Hokage who took over the role of Hokage when his brother stepped down. Nidaime inherited his older brother's will and was responsible for the creation of the ninja academy and others organizations within the village. The great ninja war broke out afterwards; in his dying moment, Nidaime instructed the future generation to pacify the war and ensure the village's prosperity. He later returned in the series when Orochimaru resurrected him using the Impure World Resurrection (Kyuchiyose Edo Tensei) and was forced to fight his former disciple. The 3rd had to stop his former teacher and used the 4th’s Demonic Soul Seal (Fuuinjutsu Shiki Fuujin) sealing his soul into one of his kage bushins. With this Jutsu whoever’s soul is sealed will suffer for all eternity in the belly of the Shikigami never gaining release, hating each other and battling for all of eternity. In contrast to his brother, who prefers to assault the enemy head on, Nidaime is a more nimble fighter preferring to capitalize on his speed and agility to catch his opponents off guard. He’s also very dangerous at a distance thanks to his prowess with Water Style techniques and he can even use extremely powerful water attacks in areas with no water nearby, a feat that has yet to be repeated.


3rd Hokage

Name: Sarutobi
Strengths: Knowledge of over 1,000 Jutsus, Genius intelligence, Summoning
Family Members: Konohamaru (Grandson)
Students: Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru
Info: Sarutobi is a kind old man in every sense of the word, he regards everyone living in Konoha has a family member often acting like a grandfather to his people instead of just their leader. His biggest drive in life is to keep Konoha safe and to keep the people who live there happy. He is also known to be a bit of a pervert as seen by his vulnerability to Naruto’s Sexy Jutsu as well as his interest in young Jiraiya’s peeping techniques. Despite his calm and kindly exterior however, he is an incredibly strong leader with guts and willpower to match. Not much is known about Sarutobi’s life before he became Hokage. We do know that as a Jounin he was in charge of training the Gennins that would one day become the 2 Legendary Sennins, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru, and that he pioneered the “get the bells” drill the Kakashi would later employ on Naruto and the rest of team seven. After the 4th Hokage was chosen he decided to retire and let the 4th run the village, but after the 4th died fighting Kyuubi Sarutobi took the position of Hokage once again. It was because of his leadership skills that lead Konoha to victory/peace against both the Earth and Thunder countries. He took great interest in Orochimaru as a student because of Orochimaru’s genius and hoped he would someday inherit the title of Hokage and rule the village justly. This dream blinded him from seeing Orochimaru’s inner malice until one day Orochimaru was caught experimenting on Konoha ninjas trying to create in immortality Jutsu. Even when confronted by this evidence, Sarutobi still couldn’t bring himself to kill his former student and Orochimaru escaped to wreck havoc later. Prior to the Wind and Sound country’s invasion of Konoha he was planning on staying in office for 5 more years before choosing a 5th Hokage, but that plan was never realized do to his defeat at Orochimaru’s hands, but even in defeat the 3rd managed to save his homeland by stealing the life-force from Orochimaru’s hands which rendered them useless, and him Jutsu-less. Being a master of over 1,000 Jutsus, including EVERY secret Jutsu in Konoha, Sarutobi has a pretty nice arsenal of moves to choose from, though he seems to favor fire and earth style Jutsus. This is most likely due to the fact the fire Jutsus are Konoha’s specialty and the fact that he spent a great deal of time fighting against enemy ninjas from the earth country, thus he has a great deal of experience with them. But his arsenal alone is not what makes him so dangerous, it’s the way he uses and combines them that lead to him being called the most powerful Hokage of all time (at least, when he was in his prime). An example of this was seen in his fight with Orochimaru wherein he combined the Earth Style; Earth Dragon Missile (Doton, Doryuudan), a Jutsu that causes a dragon head of mud to rise up and spit mud missiles at the opponent, with the Fire Dragon Missile (Karyuudan) which causes the user to breath intends flames, to create missiles of molten lava. Like most upper level Shinobis, Sarutobi also knows the Summoning Jutsu (Kyuichose No Jutsu); in his case he is able to summon monkeys. The only one of whom we’ve seen him summon (and most likely the strongest of the monkeys) is Enma, the eldest Monkey a.k.a. The Monkey God, King Enma. While he’s not as large as some of the other Kyuichose No Jutsu animals, Enma’s extremely tough, as he is able to physically fend off a Kage level opponent without too much difficulty. His true power though, is his unique ability to transform into a black and gold Bo staff called the “Free Forming Diamond pole,” (Kongou Nyoi). As its name suggests this weapon is as hard as a diamond and can adjust its size and length at will. not only that, but since Enma is the actual weapon itself he/it can move around completely unaided, he can also multiply himself and cause his eyes and arms to sprout from anywhere on the pole. As a last resort Sarutobi has the ability to call on the most power and most dangerous Jutsu created by the 4th Hokage, the Demonic Soul Seal (Fuuinjutsu Shiki Fuujin). This is the same technique the 4th used to seal Kyuubi inside Naruto’s body so the sheer power of this Jutsu is beyond compare. This Jutsu allows the user to call upon a Shikigami or “Death God” which joins with the actions of the user. Shikigami reaches into an outline of a soul in front of him which is actually the user. When the user grabs the victim, the Shikigami extends his hand through the soul outline and comes out from the stomach of the user. The Shikigami’s hand goes into the enemy's stomach where from it literally rips the soul out. After the soul is pulled back into the user, the user says "Fuuin" (Seal) this completes the seal of the soul in the user's body. This can be used until the user runs out of energy, and since it is a sealing Jutsu, there is a price. The user pays the price with his life, which death devours. The souls of both the user and the target are kept in the belly of the Shikigami, and will suffer for all eternity in the belly of the Shikigami never gaining release, hating each other and battling for all of eternity. Apparently if the soul is not completely extracted from the body, Death can cut part of it and seal just the part which he has grasped. In Orochimaru's case this was his arms, which are now lifeless and unusable.


4th Hokage

Name: Unknown (Referred to as Yondaime)
Strengths: Speed, Rasengan
Family Members: Naruto Uzumaki (Unprozen)
Students: Kakashi Hayate
Info: Sadly we haven’t seen much of this Konoha legend in action except once in a manga special so most info on him comes from the testimony of other characters in the story. All we really know about him is that he was the Jounin who trained Kakashi and that he was the one who defeated Kyuubi by sealing him inside Naruto’s body. The most dangerous thing about Yondaime was his insane speed gained thanks to his Body Flicker Jutsu (Shunshin no Jutsu). This Jutsu instantly transports him to anyplace he wants, hence the nickname “Yellow Flash of Konoha” and can be used over long distances as long as he knows exactly where he’s going. Another jutsu that Yondaime uses involes special kunais. These kunais are made so wherever they are throw, the 4th Hokage can immediately teleport to its location. This technique is particularly effective on large numbers of enemies; Yondaime will simply distribute his special kunai to ally ninja and tell them to throw them at different targets at the same time, then simply teleport to the location and finish off his opponents. This attack can literally defeats a whole army almost instantly. Yondaime is also one of only three people in the Naruto world able to use the Rasengan, as well as its creator. While we don’t know the peculiars of the Rasengan’s birth, we do know it took Yondaime three years to perfect the technique. Based on Gamabunta’s testimony we also know that Yondaime was able to use the Summoning Jutsu (Kyuichose No Jutsu) to summon frogs just like his teacher. However in the 4th’s case he somehow moved Kyuubi’s soul into Naruto’s body instead of into the Shikigami’s stomach, it is presently unknown exactly how he accomplished this, but it’s a good thing he did.


5th Hokage

Name: Tsunade
Strengths: Medical Jutsu, Summoning, Insane Physical Strength, Giant Knockers
Family Members: The 1st Hokage (Grandfather), Nawaki (Brother)
Students: Shizune, Sakura Haruno
Info: Despite growing up during the great ninja wars, Tsunade’s younger days were pleasant ones, ninja training with Jiraiya and Orochimaru (who was still a creep back then, but not yet an evil one), living with her little brother, Nawaki (who bears a slight resemblance to Naruto), etc., life was good. Things started to change on Nawaki’s 12th birthday, when Tsunade gave him a very special present, a rare stone necklace belonging to their grandfather the 1st Hokage. Nawaki was of course extremely happy to get this as he too dreamed of one day becoming Hokage and protecting Konoha* just like their Grandfather did. Shortly after that day Nawaki was killed, the only details we are given regarding his death are that it happened on some mission and it was really messy, but it is suspicious that Orochimaru ended up in possession of the necklace until Tsunade arrived to see the damage. After Nawaki’s death, Tsunade went to government meetings began to push for the training of medical ninjas to be included in squads to reduce the deaths of Konoha ninjas. Her idea was promptly rejected, not because of lack of interest in her ideas, but lack of time and resources needed to train medical ninjas. One Jounin however, stood up of the idea as he had just lost his little sister in a raid on the village, but to no avail. After that meeting, Tsunade and Dan the Jounin became very close, so close in fact, that the night before the two were to leave on a huge mission Tsunade presented him with the necklace that had belonged to her brother (and grandfather) because Dan too wanted to become Hokage to keep others from feeling the pain he felt after losing his sister. Sadly, during the mission Dan was severely wounded and in the end the bled to death as Tsunade tried desperately to close the wound. From that night on, Tsunade developed a paralyzing fear of blood due to the fact that she was covered with the stuff after Dan bled to death. She also became disenchanted with the life of a ninja and left Konoha with her apprentice Shizune. Many years later, after the death of the 3rd Hokage at the hands of Orochimaru the Konoha government needed to find a new 5th Hokage fast, the first offered the position to Jiraiya, but he refused. He then volunteered to go on a trip to find Tsunade so she could fill the position, making sure to take Naruto with him for special Jutsu training. While Naruto worked perfecting Jiraiya’s Jutsu, Jiraiya went from place to place seeing if anyone had seen her (and doing a s**t load of drinking and partying). Anyways, after while Jiraiya and Naruto found her, but unknown to them, so had Orochimaru, who had met with her in secret offering her the resurrection of Nawaki and Dan in exchange for healing his damaged arms. At first she cannot decide, so Orochimaru gives her a week to think it over. During this time, she does some soul searching ad spends time with Jiraiya and Naruto, after hearing their offer to become 5th Hokage, she refuses, and as Naruto often does, he pisses off Tsunade saying that she’s an old bat who can’t do any good for the village anyways, and how he’s going to be the best Hokage ever. After a few minutes of this, Tsunade’s famous temper flares up and she beats the s**t out of Naruto using only one finger. After smacking him around for a few minutes, she offers Naruto a bet, if he can master his new Jutsu in one week, she’ll acknowledge that he has the potential to become a strong Hokage, and give him the necklace that once belonged to the 1st Hokage (and her brother, and her boyfriend, but I digress). If Naruto fails to master the Jutsu, then Tsunade gets all of Naruto’s pocket money, which is quite a lot considering he just won a big lottery in a nearby village. So the days pass, and the day for Tsunade’s big decision arrives, all the signs say that she’s going to accept Orochimaru’s offer. She leaves alone for an abandoned area, even resorting to drugging Jiraiya so he won’t follow. After some brief temptation, she at last changes her mind and decides not only to not heal Orochimaru’s hands, but to defeat him, as the 5th Hokage! She also overcomes her fear of blood in order to fight off Orochimaru and his subordinate. At about that time reinforcements show up in the form of Jiraiya who is still drugged so he’s only at about 1/3 of his normal power, Shizune, Naruto who’s just mastered his new Jutsu and won the bet. What follows is a massive Smackdown between the most powerful ninja’s ever. In the end, Orochimaru is beaten and flees off with his underlings, while Naruto is seriously wounded. Fearing a repeat of what happened with Dan; Tsunade desperately tries to heal Naruto, and just barely pulls it off. It is then admits Naruto has won their bet and the 1st Hokage’s necklace changes hands for the final time. After their ordeal Naruto, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Shizune and Ton-Ton all return to Konoha where Tsunade is inaugurated as the 5th Hokage. Honestly though, she’s not well suited to the task, she hates doing the necessary office work and if left unchecked by Shizune, would rather spend the whole day drinking and lounging. Her medical skills often come in particularly useful in healing Rock Lee’s damaged spine and the various injured Gennins after Sasuke’s betrayal, after which Sakura becomes her new protégé feeling worthless after her was powerless to stop Sasuke from leaving. Being a medical Ninja, Tsunade does not possess much in the way of combat Jutsus (comparatively speaking), but instead takes advantage of her insane physical strength to over whelm opponents, it has even been remarked that one “clean hit” from her is enough to finish any opponent. As with all her fellow Sennins however, she is also skilled with the Summoning Jutsu (Kyuichose No Jutsu), in her case summoning slugs to do her bidding (yes, I said slugs). Sadly, the only one we’ve met thus far is her most power ally, a rather shy, 6 story tall slug named Katsui, seen here using her signature, ‘Acid of 1000 Fangs Jutsu’ (Zeshi Nensan). When all else fails though, Tsunade does possess one final trump card, her Genesis of Rebirth Jutsu (Ninpo, Sozo Saise). You see, that small diamond on her forehead is actually a seal that she uses to store vast amounts of unused chakra, when the Genesis of Rebirth is activated the seal expands to its full shape and all the compressed chakra is released. This chakra not only heals all damage to her body and organs, but can actually regenerate any lost body tissue, making it almost impossible for Tsunade to die in battle. There are however three disadvantages to using this technique; 1) the Jutsu has a strict time limit, and after her time is up, she’s completely helpless, as in can’t do s**t for the rest of the battle, 2) she’s so weak after the time limit is up that she is unable to maintain her Anti-Aging Jutsu, and thus reverts to her natural form until she regains her strength, and 3) The number of times human cells can divide is finite, and by forcing her cells into over drive this technique actually shortens her overall lifespan, so it must the used with extreme caution.

What Ninja Rank Are You???

Academy Student

Becoming an Academy Student is the first step to becoming a professional ninja. Students are taught the basics to become a ninja. Rather than performing missions, all students are trained to master basic techniques and skills. All students enrolled are of very young age. In order to become a Genin, students must pass a comprehensive graduating test. Passing this test gives you all the chance in the world to become a great ninja. It is not very easy to make the cut and many students don't pass. This rank is probably he most crucial stage towards becoming an elite ninja.

Genin

The Genin is considered the lowest rank for a ninja. Most Genin's don't perform missions, but train like academy students. Genin ranked ninjas usually perform harsh labor and dirty work. When put into missions; they usually perform D ranked missions. Every Genin is assigned a Jounin instructor. The Jounin instructor helps train the Genin to become a wise and skilled ninja.

Chuunin

Chuunin rank is a medium ninja rank but hard to attain; the exams happen twice a year. A Genin team must be nominated by their Sensei and endure gruelling a written, physical, and mental exams to prove he or she has what it takes to be worthy of the title. Ninja have been killed during the Chuunin finals. When Naruto’ team takes the Chuunin exam only one person attains this title (Shikamaru). A Chuunin is considered a leader and is responsible for those under his command. Their mission parameters broaden to include higher-level missions ranging from simple escort or intelligence gathering to open combat and even assassination.

Jounin

The title Jounin is split into two separate categories. Before you are awarded the full title Jounin, you are, by appointment, a Special Jounin. This is the next rank up from Chuunin and covers everything a Chuunin does, but also includes high-risk missions between other countries, such as: escorting royalty. These missions are much more delicate and dangerous than previous missions. Complete Jounins are assigned to the most dangerous and highest paying missions. These missions can be anything from high-level inter-nation assassinations to delivering and collecting important documents and treaties. Only a ninja with a wealth of combat experience can become a full Jounin. At some point in a Jounin’s career he/she will be assigned a team of Genin to teach and guide their development; this responsibility is huge as they will oversee their students training and be responsible for their lives until they are Chuunin.

ANBU

The ANBU operate as top-level assassins, interrogators, and also hunters of ninja who for whatever reasons have defected from their village. They are a secretive organization that exists in every village and are under the direct orders of their Kage. Life expectancy for ANBU members is very short as they have the most dangerous assignments; they wear animal masks (representing the animals of the Zodiac) to protect their identity and to further induce fear into their targets. ANBU members also have a tattoo on their shoulder.

Kage

The Kage is the hidden village’s respective leader. Kages are ninjas that are among the strongest, if not the strongest ninja in their village. In order to become a Kage, they have had to climb the proverbial “ladder” from the Genin rank. Kages are responsible for the protection and well being of their people and all the important the decision making falls on their shoulders. There is a council of elders that they often consult for high-level decisions, but ultimately, the Kage has the final say. A new Kage is hand picked and groomed by the current Kage to take their place.

NINJA WEAPONS

Much like real ninjas, the ninjas in Naruto are trained to use many weapons and tools. Below is a listing of the weapons and tools, split into 2 groups, the common and special-made.

Basic & Common Weapons
Animals/Insects - Animals are also considered as weapons. Some animals have chemical reactions when fed food pills. Inuzuka Kiba's dog, Akamaru turns red and grows in size when fed! Also, Aburame Shino of the Insect Clan uses his bugs to sap chakra out of his opponents. Sometimes it's so deadly that they can never fight again! The Kuchiyose no Jutsu or The Summoning Technique allows the user to summon animals through the space-time continuum. There are many characters who can summon creatures using the Kuchiyose no Jutsu Gama Sennin technique. This however takes skill, training, and chakra. There have been many summons. Some of the most recognizable ones include: Hatake Kakashi and the Hachininken (8 ninja dogs) with Pakkun being his preferred choice. Maito Gai is able to summon turtles, first completed during the Chuunin Exams. Sarutobi (3rd Hokage) is able to summon Enma (monkey). Tsunade can summon a slug. Jiraiya and Naruto can summon toads. Orochimaru can summon slugs. The summoning technique is a contract between the ninja and the creature, written on a scroll that the ninja has to sign using their own blood, for he or she to be able to summon a particular creature. Even then (as with the situation between Naruto and Gamabunta), the creature is not bound to obey the ninja. It all comes down to trust and strength such as the relationship between Orochimaru and Manda.

Bombs - Oddly enough, bombs are used in Naruto, but not often. So far there has only been 3 different bombs seen in the series: Smoke, Gas and Light. The smoke bomb is either used as a distraction or an escape tool. The gas bomb is simply a poisonous gas bomb which causes coughing once breathed in. The light bomb is used to blind a person and it was used to blind Tayuya as part of one of Shikamaru's plans.

Exploding Tags - A commonly used weapon, exploding tags are pieces of paper with the Japanese character "Baku," which means "explode" written on it. These tags can be easily placed on various items and will ignite them and explode after a short amount of time.

Food Pills - You would be surprised to consider this a weapon, but it is. Food pills allow the user to double their chakra and even fight three days non-stop. Also when fed to some animals it creates a chemical reaction. Kabuto, Orochimaru's #1 subordinate has been known to use a blood pill, which regenerates blood lost in battle. The AkimichiClan (Chouji's family) uses a set of 3 pills that greatly increase the user's abilities and can even change their appearance.

Fuuma Shuriken - The fuuma shuriken is also known as the windmill shuriken. It is much larger than the normal shuriken and it is also collapsible. Though the accuracy rate is much lower the effects of being hit by a fuuma shuriken are far more deadly.

Katanas - Katanas are one sided swords used as the default weapon for ANBU members. They are also used by the samurai body guards of Gatou.

Kunai - The Kunai is a kind of basic dagger that all ninjas use. It is all-purpose and can be used as a throwing knife or to stab at your opponents. It is extremely vital for all Shinobi to have.

Makibishi - Makibishi are small nails used to attack the opponent with.Just like the Senbon Needles, it does not hit the opponent very often. Some ninjasuse this weapon as a distraction for his/her main attack. Makibishis have 4 pointed spikes and are also used to slow down an opponent. Its shape makes it so at least one point is always facing up.

Ointment - Ointments are simply used as a healing cream or used to relieve pain.

Shuriken - The shuriken, otherwise known as ninja stars, is a very deadly and commonly used weapon. There are two types of shuriken: the tiny ones which are more smaller and easier to throw, and the Fuuma Shuriken: a huge shuriken used for fast and easy killing. It is very unwieldy, but if it hits you, you're as good as dead! While the Fuuma shuriken is preferred by the older and more experienced Shinobi, some Genin find it easier to use than the regular sized shuriken.

Umbrella - Umbrellas are used by the Shinobi of the Rain village. These umbrellas are mainly used to conceal thousands of needles which, when the umbrella is thrown into the air spinning, spread out in a rain-like fashion.

Wire - Wires are simple thin metal wiring often tied to the kunai or shuriken and thrown to in groups to fasten an enemy to a tree or rock.

Specialty Tools & Weapons
Asuma’s Trench Knives – These are special trench knives made from a metal that excels at absorbing chakra. When Asuma focuses his wind natured chakra into them, he can extend the blades up to several feet and slice through objects like wood and stone with ease.

Dosu's Speaker - This is a special Chakra-controlled speaker used by Dosu of the Sound Nin. The speaker is able to take any sound and distort it to Dosu's whim. Anything from frequency to strength of the sound is under Dosu's control making him able to direct the sound at a specific target, completely distorting the enemy's balance and hearing.

Exploding Creatures' Chakra Bombs- Deidara of the Akatsuki is channels his chakra into creatures such as birds and spiders that explode on contact.

Flute - Flutes are basic musical instruments but with special purposes. A basic flute used by Tayuya of the Sound Five when added with chakra can create a Genjutsu to any enemy within earshot of the flute. Tayuya also uses this flute to control her summoned guardians.

Gaara's Gourd - Gaara of the Desert always wears this large tan gourd strapped across his back. It contains a large amount of sand, which serves as his one and only weapon in battle. The sand is mixed with the blood of the many people he's killed and will emerge to shield Gaara from harm, even if Gaara himself does not command it to do so. It is later revealed the gourd itself is also made of sand allowing Gaara to draw sand from within the gourd while it appears closed for a sneak attack. The gourd can also dissolve completely and be used to increase Gaara's sand supply.

Iron Knuckles - Iron knuckles are pointed knuckle weapons with a blade on the outward facing end. Extremely useful in hand-to-handcombats. This weapon is primarily used by Asuma.

Kankuro's Pupperts (Karasu, Kuroari, Sanshouo, and ???) - These are the main weapons of Kankuro from the Sand Village. At first he only carries one, but as the story goes on he adds more puppets to his arsenal, reflecting how he himself grows in strength. All of these puppets were originally created by Sasori of the Red Sand, but Kankuro has since then added a few new tricks to them. Kankuro's first puppet is first used during the Chunnin Exam. Karasu was most likely named for the dark cloak that covers his body and the four arms giving him a crow-like appearance. Though apparently a simple human-sized marionette, Karasu is actually a fierce offensive weapon and literally every inch of Karasu's body is loaded with some kind of weapon involving poisoned blades, projectile launchers and even poisonous gas. Karasu's body can even separate and the individual pieces can be used as weapons and projectiles. First seen during the Sasuke Retrieval arc, Kuroari is similar in appearance to Karasu except he has six arms and a much larger head and body, similar to the body of a real ant. Function wise, Kuroari is not an offensive puppet like Karasu, but instead is built to capture opponents with barbed blades in each signet of his arms and a hollow body cavity used as a prison. Kuroari also makes a devastating combination when used alongside Karasu as Karasu can be used to harass the opponent in Kuroari's grasp. Once the opponent has been locked inside Kuroari's body cavity Karasu, combined with the Kuroari, they performs devastating Karakuri Engeki: Kuro Higi Ippatsu (The Puppet play: Secret Technique - Darkness attack) wherein Karasu's Head, legs, and arms separate and extend long blades from their bases. All seven limbs then pierce into special slits on Kuroari's body and their blades impale whoever's unlucky enough to be inside. This third puppet is briefly revealed at the beginning of the Rescue Gaara arc when Kankuro becomes a Jounin of the Sand Village. Unlike the first two puppets which are relatively human shaped and sized, Sanshouo takes the form of an enormous lizard, and while not much is seen of Sanshouo, its function is based on brute strength and mass destruction. Given the fact the Kankuro's favorite hobby is to install new tricks and gadgets into his puppets, Sanshouo is no doubt loaded with such mechanisms. After Kankuro recovers from his battle with Sasori of the Red Sand, he appears to have gained a 4th puppet, but since it remained bandaged on his back, not much is known of this puppet.

Neck Cutter - This is an extremely large sword used by Zabuza. It is specially shaped and sharpened to be able to cut people clear in half. The sword itself is taller than Zabuza.

Samehada - Its name means "shark skin" and it's named after the fish servant of Isonade, a legendary giant demon shark with three tails and three dorsal fins. This large sword-like weapon is used by Kisame of the Akatsuki. It appears to simply be an extra large sword wrapped in bandages but once unveiled it is apparent that the sword has a great number of sharp, spike-like scales attached and formed into the shape of a sword. As with real shark skin, this sword does not cut, it shaves, and combined with Kisame's immense physical strength anyone hit by this sword will be hurt significantly.

Senbon Needles - Senbon needles, while mainly used for Acupuncture (a form of Chinese healing that includes sticking needles in strategic spots on your body, redirecting ki or your life force so that it balances out) some Shinobi, properly trained, can use them as deadly weapons. One of the reasons it is not all that popular is it requires extreme accuracy and speed, fore these are only deadly if they hit a vital area of the body. Masters of the Senbon Needle combat are in a way, masters of illusion. With the right precision and timing, a Shinobi can throw a Senbon Needle seemingly at a vital target on an ally, but actually missing it by a few inches. This causes the ally to go into a death-like trance in which the Shinobi will appear dead. Even if the opponents were to take precautions to see if they are really dead. The only known Shinobi who uses Senbon Needles in is Haku.

Sickle and Chain - The Sicle and Chain is basically 2 giant claw-like weapons chained together and used as a 2-man weapon by the Demon Brothers of the Mist. The edges of the chain are actually sharpened which makes it even more deadly. If needed the chains can be detached allowing each of the brothers to move independently.

Soldier Pills - These pills taken by Kiba allows him to fight for three days and three nights non-stop.

Sword of Raijin - This is a legendary weapon said to have been wielded by the Second Hokage. It looks like the hilt of a standard double edged sword, but the blade of the weapon is made of pure electricity and able to cut through any surface, even through chakra. Reported stolen from Konoha, the weapon resurfaced in the hands of a Shinobi from the Hidden Rain Village only to be destroyed by the damage from Sasuke and Naruto's attacks.

Temari's Fan - This huge fold-up fan is Temari's primary weapon. This fan has 3 purple circles drawn on it which Temari calls: "moons". Each "moon" that is unfolded increases the fan's power greatly. Temari can use this fan to summon great gusts of wind and even use it to fly around.

HAND SEALS

These are the 12 main hand seals used by ninjas to perform Jutsus. Each different Jutsu has a unique combination of seals and each different seal represents an animal of the Chinese Zodiac.
