Its seems like in family situations it is always the wife that is the last to make the switch for some reason...

For me it's mostly Gentoo (that's the one i selected), as that's what I use on my desktop box. Then I have Debian on my server. Had Fedora on other company boxes (but left the company), also tried compiling one myself (it actually worked!), and I usually recommend Ubuntu biggrin

jtheriot I'm a Fedora user myself. I'm an rpm junkie. Fedora is great, Ubuntu..well lets say I considered not using linux anymore. But Fedora made me consider never using windows again. (Fedora Core 6 that is, FC5 was "meh" to me..I like 8 and what I have seen of 9 though) But I started with damn small, as it appeals to folks with dial-up and not much patience xD (I've since gotten DSL)

I hop to different distros. I try a lot and so far I am highly impressed by a few:
Linux Mint Fedora Red Hat Debian Arch Gentoo Slackware Damn Small Linux PCLinuxOS SUSE
Those are the distros I keep coming back to when a new release shows up. If only I can stuff all that in one hard drive and have space left over. xD

I use Debian, But my new machine rafused to install it sad So I'm using Ubuntu until further notice.
I don't like Ubuntu, Simply because of it's fanboy's. (Damn you Debian iso burn right this time!)

I just started using Linux yesterday, so I'm pretty much a Linux newb, but I use Ubuntu. So far I like it, but I think I'll try different distros once I get accustomed to the Linux command line (and I get more hard drive space... I have a shitload of files and a Windows dual-boot since my dad isn't quite ready to switch yet).

Well glad that you are giving Linux a try, if you have any questions or problems you can post here or in CT/TT (some if not most of us stalk there) and well will do our best to help you.

Xubuntu user here, and it's been almost a year since I made the switch from Mac. The lightweight desktop works great with my eeePC. Looking to experiment with Damn Small Linux in the near future.

People love em for different reasons. I'm a Debian and Ubuntu guy. Debian for servers and work. Ubuntu for desktops and common stuff.

Ubuntu, Fedora/RH. I've always stuck with these two for my nix box. At the moment I'm debating Gentoo.
Of course I do have a box with Windows 2008 server though (disappointed) I use it for Microsoft SQL data-basing.

I use Mac OS mainly. I do use Ubuntu, though, when I am using Linux. The reason being: it is really intuitive compared to most other versions of Linux. The order of OS Hierarchy is Windows->Most Linux->Ubuntu->Mac OS. This is my personal preference.

I use Ubuntu, but im getting fed up with it. (Having to remove ubuntu-desktop to remove the OpenOffice software is just one thing I don't like about it. ninja ) I have been thinking of trying out Linux from scratch or FreeBSD. I really liked PClinuxOS, and Mandriva when I had them installed. SLED 11.1 not so much. Im wanting to try out Vector Linux.
I also like Backtrack. ninja
